I see that the file has been replaced but that the new one still has subtitles. Is it another final workprint?

I’ll release two versions. One without subtitles is coming as soon as I know this full release is problem-free.

PMs sent.

Minor Update:

I updated the file due to a minor mistake near the end (a little unintended shriek sound) and two transitions I wanted to finetune even further. It’s nothing major, but if you haven’t watched the film yet I recommend re-downloading for an even better experience.

I’ve gotta say, isn’t Vranir just the guy? What an excellent set of feedback.

Anjohan, I’ll take a copy please, and I’d also be interested to see a bit of a description for how you’ve split the content across your edit and which major plotlines you’ve cut most heavily.

Anjohan, I’ll take a copy please, and I’d also be interested to see a bit of a description for how you’ve split the content across your edit and which major plotlines you’ve cut most heavily.

The content of the beginning Acts is;

-> The Elven storyline is the intro and the main-main characters. This is Galadriel and Elrond. They occupy, with the intro/prolugue, the first 11 minutes of the film. This is to establish all things important and give the main players the time deserved and needed to both care for their story as well as develop their relationship.

-> We then are introduced to the Southlands Plotline at the 11 minute mark, and are given six minutes with Arondir to establish his character and get an understanding of who he is and what his goals are. We are also introduced to Bronwyn. As the Elves are told they are abandoning the Southlands due to the declerance of peace, by orders of the King, we go back to Galadriel and Elrond.

-> Elrond and Galadriel have their emotional farewell during the night time celebration, and we are introduced to Celebrimbor at the end of the sequence.

-> We are now back in the Southlands, and get to develop Arondir and Bronwyn further. Their scene ends as they go to investigate the strange things happen further East.

-> Galadriel is seen traveling across the ocean, her farewell to Middle-Earth split in two with a scene with Elrond and Celebrimbor in-between to keep continuing his story arc as well so we know what he’s up to (being established as a main character and all, I need him to be kept present and interesting throughout Galadriel’s departure)

-> Then, we move onto a sequence of heavily edited scenes as Galadriel escapes the boat in the last minute, Harfoots Nori and Poppy are introduced along with The Stranger arriving, and Galadriel seeing the ports to “Heaven” close before her.

-> And now, all important main characters are introduced and the story established. So now I start to juggle the main plotlines with eachother, with a main focus on each plotline building upon the other, with a coherent team as we build to suspense and action and then the reveal of the Orcs. The rest I want for you and others to discover, as I prefer my edits to be viewed without any expectation of what’s to come besides (hopefully) a good Andreas edit.

It is. The goal was to craft a strong, thematic narrative with three acts and a strong main character in Galadriel (without all the forced female empowerment stuff).

Hey! I created an account just for this. Could I get a link too? 😃

been a month searching for someone to do a fan edit of the Rings of Power ,there is some way to get the link for looking at it?

OP was rather quick at responding for request for a link. I thought it would take weeks, but was sent within 24 hours, if I remember correctly. Much appreciated for that. The challenge for me was getting my friends together to watch this, but the stars aligned and we watched it last night. The group was me, one friend that watched the original show with me, and one friend who had seen the online fallout, but never actually watched the show.

First off, I want to say this is very watchable. I know of a few other fan edits that exist of The Rings of Power and most of them are unwatchable. They’re either put together by crazy people, or by people who should be never let near a video editing tool again other than MS Clipchamp. This version is by far the best fan edit I’ve watched. I didn’t plan on making it through the entire film, but OP looks like they knew what they were doing, more or less.

At time of writing, Rings of Power Season 1, on Metacritic, has a user score of 3.0. Which I believe an accurate rating for the original show. I would give this fan edited film a 6.0 out of 10 based on all other films I’ve watched. Still not good, but literally double that of the original, and I think it could be made better.

My friend who had not seen the show thought this film was mediocre, at best. Which is good, considering the Metacritic score mentioned above. The friend who has seen the show, found a new distain for the show, after hating it already, because this fan edit proves that if someone competent was at the helm, Rings of Power could have been good.

I absolutely love the fact that this film, cuts out, basically, all the cringe from the show. The harfoots are basically non-existent, other than the necessary scenes with the man who falls from the sky. The cringe dialogue between The Queen and Galadriel is gone. Same with the dwarves. Basically, everything bad and unnecessary is gone. It’s so refreshing to be told a story and not laughing at the screen because you can’t believe a professional, half a billion dollar show actually put that in their show.

That being said, I do have a couple gripes. I don’t like that the subtitle font changes based on when OP overlays audio from a different scene on top of what’s being shown. When you realize that’s what’s happening, it ruins the immersion. Which I honestly didn’t expect I’ll get out of this fan edit, so good job, but could not the subtitle track been separated from the original and spliced in to the existing on the films?

Another major area for improvement would be the ending. The ending felt rushed. Pacing was very good, pretty much all the way up to where the villagers defend themselves. After that, it sort of falls apart. The show also kind of falls apart from that point too, so I don’t know how much was from the compressed time frame compounding issues from the original. Also, the reason Galadriel and Halbrand ride off to the forge is kind totally skipped over. It shows Halbrand injured, then on a horse, then riding away with no explanation of what is going on. Would be, and was, very confusing for people who have never seen the show. Also the voice over during the second to last scene is not tonally consistent with the rest of the film. Seems almost lazy, although I know it was probably a lot of work to get it the way it was.

Other than those things, I have no real problems with the edit. But with those improvements I think it could be a 7/10. Which, based on the original, is amazing OP was able to do.

TL;DR: I think the ending needs a revisit, but twice as good as the original and very appreciated.

Thank you for your review. It made me chuckle. A 6/10 for this fanedit, with the content of the show as source, is probably the greatest compliment I’ve received for weeks. I’ll try to reach the 7/10 when I revisit the edit again.

I’ll definitely take your gripes about the ending into account when I revisit the film (there will be a subtitle-free version as well, but not before I’m 100% satisfied with the film). A lot of people requested subtitles for this edit and hardcoding them in saved me a lot of time. They’ll be gone for a newer version.

I’m actually considering ending the film when Galadriel reach the Queen’s camp at the end of the film, and then do a close-up of Mordor with some sinister music… I think that might be the perfect spot to end it, for a less cluddered ending. And then open Film II with the ending (but improved) that I put together here. We’ll see I guess. I’m still in need of a break from this one. It fried my brain.

JEDIT: Oh, and if you (and your) friends want and are into watching seperate editions, I recommend Vranir’s. He just finished a workprint (I have yet to see it, but there is no doubt about his abilities).

Yes. My Workprint can be available. It’s mostly just missing some VFX stuff I’m hoping to learn how to create and apply to enhance a few scenes and address some minor continuity/common sense issues.

The ending seems to be a universal struggle for this content. I “solved” it by cutting off the main story at the eruption, then letting the Stranger and Nori give a bit of a happier finale. I’m hoping that season 2 will provide some material to pad out the forging of the rings.

Anjohan, I’d love to receive a link too, interested to revisit the series and see your adaptation of it!

Thanks for sending the link Anjohan, I enjoyed the watch and I really appreciate the effort that must have gone into editing such a big (and rather messy!) series.

You’ve done a good job at removing extraneous scenes and clunky moments, and for me - you’ve definitely improved it and made a decent Rings Of Power ‘the movie’ part one. On a quality level it’s never going to be up there competing with Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy but with your edit it becomes way more watchable and enjoyable than it was. It’s got great visuals and costumes, clearly a lot of money and attention to detail went into the series, and now with the faster pace of your edit… it does feel more of a companion piece to Jacksons movies.

On the whole, the scenes all flowed really nicely. There were just some small nitpicks that felt a bit ‘off’. When Galadriel and Halbrand get on the boat and ask Elendil where they are heading, we get a big dramatic pause and the answer “home”… I was expecting that to seque into the Numenor establishing shots, but instead the next scene jarringly follows the map to Khazad Dum. As audiences if we get a big dramatic “were going to Numenor…” then we expect the next shot to be of Numenor.

The other small nitpick was cutting that epic shot of the Numenor cavalry charge with Galadriel in the middle. It was arguably the ‘money shot’ of the entire series, and certainly the most grandly cinematic. If the aim is to make the series feel like a movie then could there perhaps be a way to keep that shot in?

But really they are small nitpicks, you’ve done a fine job with this, well done chap!

This brief review is by no means an insult to the editor (Andreas or Anjohan). The actual show itself was unwatchable. I could not watch it all the way through. I thought it was an extreme b*sdtardization of the Lord of the Rings franchise. Truly horrible.

With this edit, I was able to comfortably watch it all the way through. I still thought the content was awful, but that is not the fault of the editor - he did not write nor direct the show. There is only so much one can do to clean up this mess. In fact, I commend Andreas for being able to make this show at least watchable one time through in this movie edit. I would not have even thought that was possible. If someone really needs to watch this, please bypass the actual show and go with this edit rather than the full Amazon version.
