The only real conflict between the two is that he learns to speak basic in both (though he knows a bit at the beginning of Thrawn, and he could plausibly be hiding a greater command of the language as a means of staying a step ahead of the Imperials who first encounter him). The new novel begins more than a decade after Outbound Flight, so it’s got enough distance that the two don’t really step on each other.

I actually listened to the abridged audiobook of Outbound Flight in the run-up to Thrawn, because I never actually finished it the first time around and I ran out of time for a full reading. The abridged version cuts out almost all of the non-Thrawn/Car’das material, which eliminates a lot of the prequelisms. Really, though, more than any PT references, I found myself most fed up with C’baoth. I understand that the whole point of the character is that he’s a pompous ass, but god damn does it get tiresome to read.

The last Zahn book I read, Scoundrals, was so bad I don’t know if I’m ready for Thrawn yet. Might let the taste get out of my brain first.

Is anyone excited for the Jyn Erso book? I don’t know the author at all.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

To anyone who has read them, is the X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston worth reading? I’ve heard that they’re some of the better Star Wars books out there.

Not enough people read the EU.

I didn’t finish it either. Not so much for its being bad, but more because I was distracted with a move (to another city) and never picked it up again. That was also when I had been coming off of all his Mara Jade\Hand Of Judgement work and that really is his wheelhouse. Those, to me, are a tough act to follow.

Just a question, but what colour was Leia’s first lightsaber? I know she got a blue one in the Dark Nest trilogy, but her original one is shown as being red on some book covers, but described as being “green-white” in the Thrawn trilogy. Did she change it?

Looks like she built a blue saber, but Luke built her a red saber that fit her hand better. Then she got training from somebody who forced her to build herself another one? So she had like 4 sabers because people wanted her to have different colors, I guess.

IIRC, her first lightsaber was a green one gifted to her by Luke. Then she stopped using that one for awhile and temporarily used a blue lightsaber gifted to her by the ancient Jedi Vima-Da-Boda before the resurrected Palpatine used the Force to blow it up in her hands. Then apparently she built her own lightsaber in some short story I never read, and I think it was blue, too. Then in the Corellian Trilogy, Luke gave her another lightsaber as a gift, this one with a ruby blade. She apparently lost that one in some New Jedi Order book, but started using another red lightsaber of unknown origin right after that. Then came another lightsaber she built herself, which was blue again.

The red one is the best one and the only one that matters, of course.

How dare you, R1-lovers, miss the glaring fact that K2SO is… Mary Sue.
Are you blind?

He pilots and fights like Chewbacca, hacks computers like R2D2 and talks like C-3PO.
He’s strong, handsome, eloquent… nice voice BTW.

Maaary Suuuuue

😉

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Yet another reason I ignore the EU.

So would you have preferred her to rely solely on Force Abilities or not be trained at all?

I mean, that’s what TFA did, and I was okay with that.

That would have only worked for me if Luke and Leia weren’t related. Aside from the fact it adds another throwaway line to ROTJ having Leia not fully embrace her Force Sensitivity is tantamount to someone of who is as physically gifted as Lebron James not hone their skills.

Author

If I was as physically gifted as LeBron James, you bet your ass I wouldn’t hone my skills, because I have no interest whatsoever in basketball.

Author

Then you would be squandering your physical potential just like an intelligent person would be squandering their base intelligence if they refused to educate themselves and apply their knowledge for the betterment of themselves, their community or humanity as a whole. And the Force is so much more…

Author

I can live with that as long as it means I don’t have to play basketball.

DAMMIT JOE WHY WON’T YOU PLAY BASKETBALL ALREADY!!!

‘Basketball’ in my analogy essentially encompasses everything one can do with the physical form. The bit about intelligence is more similar to the subject of Force Sensitivity.

Another thought I just had is that Politics consumed Leia’s life. Not only did she forsake her Force Sensitivity but she also couldn’t spend enough time with Ben. She could have feasibly maintained one of these aspects of her life but for some reason Disney thought detachment from her personal life was the way to go.

I hate basketball too, definitely the worst thing in the EU. They only added it into SW to capitalize on the success of Space Jam, and it worked given the later popularity of Jedi Master Miichael J’rdan.

EDIT: Noticed this wasn’t the hate thread. O well.

In my mind all of the EU’s failings are rendered null and void due to Kreia.

I’ve almost finished book five in The New Jedi Order and I feel that with each passing book the feel of the series grows less and less Star Warsy - which is exactly what I want, for the novels to branch out from the films and explore new ideas and locations. Overall I’m really liking this series, and I plan on reading it all and its follow ups (Dark Nest, Legacy of the Force, etc)

Not enough people read the EU.
