The purpose of this thread is to be a tutorial in how to produce an audio (with possibly a small amount of video, read below) DVD of the Star Wars Radio Dramas.

OK, with that out of the way let me explain what I would like to do. Many years ago, at great expense, I purchased the collectors edition of the Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back Radio Drama box set and The Star Wars Trilogy Radio Drama box set. I found them in storage the other day and decided to archive the CD’s onto a hard drive to PRESERVE them. Then I thought to myself ‘wouldn’t it be great to have the complete set on 1 disc’. Now the .wav files for the complete set total over 9GB so until we get HD-DVD/Blu-ray/Hybrid that could prove slightly difficult. So, I thought how about producing a multimedia DVD, playable in your set top box, including everything on the two box sets, plus, magazine articles, photos, video footage, publicity material etc.

The final spec will hopefully look like this:

Menu driven DVD
All 13 Episodes of Star Wars The Radio Drama
All 10 Episodes of The Empire Strikes Back The Radio Drama
All 6 Episodes of Return Of The Jedi
Alternate openings and endings for Star Wars The Radio Drama
Original Director’s Cut from Episode Five, In Ben’s House
Original Director’s Cut from Episode Two, Leia’s Return to Alderaan
The Making Of Star Wars The Radio Drama
Speederbike chase, complete
Speederbike chase, dialogue only
Comments from the cast
Promotional radio spots
A tribute to Brian Daley
A Suite of Additional Music Recorded for Star Wars The Radio Drama

Any video material in existence

The DVD will be 16x9 and in NTSC format.
All audio will be encoded in ac3 format at 256k.

This is where you guys come in. I have a fair bit of material associated with the Radio Dramas but I don’t think I have it all. What I’m really after are any good scans of photos of the making of the shows, ANY video material and anything else that could be included. Please PM me if you think you have anything to offer.

Please remember this project is purely archival for myself. I will not be offering this set for sale or trading. I will however reward any contributors with a complimentary copy IF they own original copies of the CD’s. I know this sounds a little unfair but this material is still commercially available. It’s a fantastic piece of work, so if you want it, GO AND BUY IT. I’ll even give you a handy little link: Buy it here or here

As always, comments warmly received.

And just to warn you, I have a LOT of projects on the go at the moment. If this DVD takes a long time, don’t get upset with me. You may even want to have a go at producing one yourself!

Regards,
babyhum

When you actually start looking, there is not too much information out there about the Radio Drama's and most of what there is seems to be spread over many web-sites.

Good luck in your quest and here is a the only picture I found during a quick search

Maybe a dedicated webpage for the Radio Drama's is needed...................

Who did the voices for the Radio Dramas? Any of the original actors?

Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams played their characters.

If you want, I can contribute, my edited versions of the Radio Dramas. Did it back in 2000, or 99. Somewhere around there.

I basically took the 13 half hour episodes of the radio drama, cut off the intros and outros to each episode, killing the narration, and mixed together the episodes so they became 4 70 minute parts. I did it pretty seamlessly, I believe. The opening fanfare kicks off part one, and the closing credits ends part 4. Essentially, what you get is a more cinematic version of the Radio Drama, that I think flows a little easier and doesn't break up the mood into 22 minute chunks bookended by credits and narration.

I've done the same for Empire (10 episodes into 3 parts) and Jedi (6 episodes into 2 parts)

If you'd rather stick that on there, I'm pretty much officially volunteering it.

Well, if Bizzle's edited version is not to be used, then perhaps it could be used as a guide for where to place chapter points, to enable 2 different versions. One would play through normally, the other would cut out all that is cut out in Bizzle's version... maybe?

I had in mind a project similar to this, but I was going to throw in scenes from the film (comics, etc) to give a visual for the dialogue.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Baby hum,

I may be able to help you a bit with this. I think I may even have the radio drama poster packed away some where. Let me know when you want to get started on it.

When I first saw this thread, that's what I was envisioning. I think a great source of images would be production art and art from the Star Wars Galaxy trading card set from Topps. They had some wonderful takes on some classic images, characters and scenes that are free from PT influence and (IMO) very much jive with the vibe from the radio dramas.

My brother has just about all of the star wars comics. I wish someone had *all* of the storyboards, it would be so cool to have a complete storyboard version to view on DVD during playback.

GL if you are listnening, release the entire storyboards for each movie as a book, you would make (even more) millions out of it...
