Celebrate Global Warming

Author

Given the proximity to "Earth Day", figured I'd start a thread about all the good Global Warming has caused.

If not for Global Warming, the Thames River would freeze over in the winter! (I think... Some river in England...)

How about we celebrate the Rapture? Some Liberals think Global Warming is coming and Some Conservatives The Rapture is coming. *Prepares to be told otherwise* I think it is silly how we are at each others throats about it.

Here's the difference.

Liberals think Global Warming is coming due to temperature variations and that it's humans that have done it. Scientists can't prove that one way or another. Yes, they know the Earth's temperature is changing, but they don't know what's causing it. Some of them claim that since it was cooler before, that it must be because of us. That's not exactly scientific. They also say it's going to happen in the next 10-20 years (or whatever they're saying now).

The Rapture is coming as well, but most conservatives won't tell you "In 20 years, the Rapture's going to get us all" because none of us know when exactly it's going to happen. It could happen today, it could happen tomorrow, it could be happening right now. All we do know is what's in the Bible. But since God's timetable is far different from our own, we just don't know when it's going to be. Remember that 2000 years ago, Jesus said the kingdom of Heaven was at hand. This lead a lot of early Christians to believe that it was coming in their lifetime. Well, it didn't come. God is timeless, so "at hand" could have easily been 3000 years from then. The point is that we don't know.

To sum up, liberals think they know Global Warming is coming or is already here. Conservatives know the Rapture is coming, they just don't know when and most don't claim to know when. "You better be good, because when the Rapture comes, if you're not good, you're gonna be dead."

I don't have much to say about "Earth Day". I think it's silly. We're taking a day to celebrate the Earth? Why don't we just do that every day?

You would be about as qualified to make about the rapture as Al Gore is qualified to make a movie on global warming. Also I could not agree that all conservatives believe in the rapture, there are a good deal of conservatives that are not Christians for one. And not all Christians believe in the rapture for another. There are a few different ways the term rapture is used by Christians. Some mean it to just mean the end of the world and when we all go to judgment. When I hear the word rapture I automatically thing of the Pre-Millennial belief that all Christians will be raptured up into heavy, while the non-believers will be left behind wondering what just happened and why so many people just vanished, then after a bit the tribulation comes and so on. There are many varying views of eschatology among the Christian community, I don't believe in the pre-millennial idea at all. So I would say the coming of the rapture is not an infallible truth at all. I think the comparison of the rapture to global warming is kind of silly. For one, I could tell somebody who firmly believes in a rapture and a tribulation and all that, that I do not share their view point at all and while they may argue with me, I don't think they are very likely to tell me I am going to hell because I don't share their belief. I know they are not going to destroy my career because of my belief. For some reason these kind of things seem to happen to any poor sap who challenges the idea of global warming. If you don't believe in global warming you are anti-human it seems and you should be ashamed of yourself for not caring about the world your children and your children's children will grow up in. Why can't we question global warming? Why are so many people so sensitive on that subject? I care about the polar bears as much as the next guy, and I definately agree that we should be as enviromentally friendly as possible. But because I don't believe the impending doom of global warming and the unfortunate death of all of our white and furry, cold weather loving friends, suddenly I am some sort of heretic. Global warming is another issue of people being too lazy to do their own research, and just finding it easier just to listen to bias sources and call it good. I just don't get it. For the life of me I just don't get it.

Sean, first of all, not all Christians, let alone conservatives in general, believe in the Rapture.

Furthermore, as LordJedi and C3PX said, no Christian claims to know exactly when the Rapture is going to occur, and we don't destroy the careers of people who say it's not going to happen. Global Warming activists--the more extreme of them, at least, claim that they understand the immense complexities of the Earth and can from it predict exactly when the planet will become dangerously warm. They advocate that society en masse bow to their arbitrary and worthless restrictions, which should be enforced by law.

I for one don't even pretend to understand the Book of Revelation or the sequence of events of the Apocalypse. And ultimately, I don't care how it happens, becasue it's not under my control--any more than the temperature of the Earth.

Also, unless you're a Christian, the Rapture isn't something to be celebrated. It's something to be feared.

dayv, what's your problem? All you do these days is mope about how pathetic these boards are now, how the good ol' days are gone, and complain about how dumb our conversations are. You are hardly the one to talk about dumb posts. The last relevant post of yours I remember reading had to do with you leading the masses of this board into battle against windmills in some misguided rebellion only to do a 180 months later. Just because we are talking about politics and current events doesn't make our post so much more idiotic than your talking about hot chicks, race cars, or football. I have always liked you man, but I just don't see where you come off complaining about the lack of relevance of other peoples posts. If you really want this place the way it use to be, then go beg all the people you took with you to FE to come back, if you think that will make a difference.

I feel that way about most of Greenday's songs, actually. Though "Blvd. of Broken Dreams" and "When Semptember Ends" are OK.

Okay, maybe I over reacted. But it isn't the first time you complained about a thread being stupid, or expressed how you hate what these forums have degraded too. I guess we shouldn't take it personally.

NO, DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. THERE'S STILL SOME GOOD MEMBERS ON HERE. EVERY POST DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE MOST INTELLEGENT OR BEST ARGUED POINT. FORUMS ARE ABOUT HAVING FUN AND STATING OPINIONS THOUGH THAT CAN ALSO LEAD TO NOT HAVING FUN ON FORUMS. EVERY FORUM IS GOING TO HAVE A TROLL OR TWO AT THE VERY LEAST. NOT EVERYBODY IS GOING TO GET ALONG. THAT'S WHAT MAKES A FORUM COMMUNITY.

OKAY, NOW LET'S GET BACK TO TOPIC.

WE'LL NEVER HAVE EVERYBODY DRIVING REAL ELECTRIC CARS ON THE ROAD. THE OIL COMPANIES HAVE TOO MANY POLITITIANS IN THEIR COLLECTIVE POCKETS THAT GET NICE KICKBACKS FOR NOT PASSING CERTAIN ENERGY BILLS. OIL RULES THE WORLD. HELL, THE BUSH FAMILY MADE THEIR MONEY IN THE OIL INDUSTRY. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ???

I have an SUV, and people have on occasion tried to make me feel guilty for it. Because I have a ten year old SUV, I am single handedly destroying the enviroment. Al Gore also grew fat off the oil companies and still owns plenty of shares in them. He also uses more than his fair share of electricity, this is one reason why I have a hard time taking him seriously.

Yeah, but every one seems to think Bush is clearly an idiot while Al Gore might as well have his PhD in science with how much credit he is given. Though you have to admit, Al has better public speaking skills. Bush gets pummeled for his accent and his tencancy to mix up words, I think they should all have to give a speech in front of a large crowd before they are allowed to pass judgment.

Actually, Bush was getting Cs and Bs, but either way, he was certainly better at his school efforts than Gore seems to have been.

Global Warming brought Civilization out of the Dark Ages and into the Renissance. I'm serious. The dark ages where cold and dank, and a global warming phenomenon brought the world into a warmer era that made people become more ambitious about the arts and recording history.

And if the Republicans caused Global Warming, then the Republicans caused the Renissance!
