Kill off the OT? I don't know what you meant in your wording but felt Yoda was just so much more than a powerful jedi in the OT. The PT should have better represented Yoda's wiseness. ESB was Yoda's shining moment. Yoda just feels watered down in the PT. When I watch any of the prequels I don't see Yoda at all. Sure he sounds and looks similar but he doesn't act the way he originally did. He just feels emotionless. As do all the jedi in the PT.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

With Adywan letting slip that the battledroids will be speaking in PT:R, I suppose now would be a good time for discussing what the voices could be like in edits and how frequently they should talk.

Whould they use probe droid like noises when communicating to each other and English when speaking to human characters?

What should the tone be (comedic, menacing, neutral)?

This may be a handy topic for discussion and experimentation for lots of editors (not to mention the dub artists collective).

As much as the prequels try on the comedic and menacing side I say it is time we go back to neutral. Now if comedy can be done without throwing it out to the audience that hahahah he just told a joke then maybe it could work but so far the prequels jokes have been so silly I would prefer they just throw pies at each other LOL.

Sorry, lol - what I meant was that he prevented the OT from ever happening in that video Davnes007 made - *he accidentally crushes Obi-Wan and Anakin*

On battledroids, for the most part they'r grand in TPM, they sound just like emotionless robots, and are mostly functional, except for one or two instances. The first time they talk, with the roger roger crap, is usually muted, which makes perfect sense, why would they be talking loudly outside where two Jedi might stil be alive, shouldn't they try to creep in? Also the "Where are you taking them/does not compute" joke is corny, but seeing as it's pretty much the only battledroid joke in the whole film, it doesn't really stick out. Very little work needed on this film's droids.

Now AOTC, the droids aren't in a lot, but when they are, their voices have gotten a lot more annoying, and goofy. The super battledroids don't speak at all ,which was nice, it kept them intimadating. Again, very littl needed to do, but what does need to be done, really needs to be done.

But ROTS, god damn, what a horror to the senses. Every single droid in this is annoying, and childish. Every single one. Even the hulking super battle droids got those stupid high pitched voices, it's so juvenile. Worst of all, they feature the most out of all the prequels. This one needs as much redubbing as possible, preferrably similiar to the emotionless tones of the TPM droids, or at least something just as neutral and robotic.

Agreed, Ithilgore

Just redub the battledroids in AOTC and ROTS with the voices they have in TPM, and we're done. Still, keep them as silent as possible.

That goes especially for the super battledroids. I guess they have to "talk" a little bit, since they are interacting with each other and R2 in ROTS, so maybe it's an idea to have them communicate through machine sounds, like clicks and whirring. Kinda like the sounds some of the robots made in Terminator Salvation.

Thats one thing i hated about Episode 3. The droids started sounding like children, what???

In Episode 3 where R2D2 is hidin with two super destroyer droids are checking out the ships what should of been scripted is this (in a that TPM kinda voice):

Droid 1: What was that sound?

Droid 2: There are no life readings on my sensors/scanners

Or something along those lines. Make these droids robots and not people lmao

To be fair, I think that's what GL was going for. I think that, as much as he was trying to show the journey of Anakin Skywalker, he was also trying to show that the creation of Darth Vader was far more the greatest failure of the Jedi than the greatest triumph of the Sith. Really the only thing that Qui-Gonn does for the PT is represent the same "why can't we be real people?"/The Living Force argument that Anakin does, but with a lot more dignity and credibility. (Other than that, I don't see why we even needed Episode I.)

The rationale behind the Vulture Fighters was that if a droid is piloting a ship why not have the ship a droid, that makes sense in terms of story logic so why in the name of Zarquon do the battledroids talk to each other at all (why do they drive battletanks too surely the tanks should be robots)?

It makes sense that they talk to humans and aliens, it makes sense that a protocol droid would talk to a droid too (it's good manners so it makes sense within their idiom) but battledroids talking to each other?

I would prefer it personally if the droids communicated to each other in computer gibberish (like the probe droids) and in English when speaking to people and aliens (and preferably in a manner that is slightly less comical than even in TPM).

I re-did my clip I posted yesterday, this time using Sony Vegas pro 8: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lftFOTx-h98.

Man, It took me 3 days to do that, 2 of them just learning how to cut stuff lol. But i'm getting the hang of it. Kudos to whoever can point out what I did. It's basicly an improvement over this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bB_JV96kAs

Anyways, I tried re-editing the ending but theres a few frames that pop up, ignore them. Does it seem if anakin's kick was a surprise this time?

It does but the problem is the manner of the kick itself.

If you compare it to Maul's kicks in TPM, which seem like genuine martial arts moves, it's almost a comical distortion of anatomy to have a now seasoned Jedi taken down by a backwards shin kick which Dooku delivers from below his knee.

It's almost as if he has for some inexplicable reason Dooku decided to stand on one leg and Anakin has just run into his foot.

When Maul boots Obi-Wan in the face it's still a surprise but it looks more deliberate.

I wish we could rotoscope some moves from early Jackie Chan movies because even when the action sways close to the comical it still feels physically plausible.

Maybe its a force kick. lol. No rly. I wanted to add a force SFX, but I could'nt find one. I did add some new lightsaber fx when its trasitons from the duel to the battle. Also, does obi one's line with palpitine seem more serious, kinda like obi knows what hes doing kinda thing.

I like your edit and the kick did seem more of a surprise though I think you should have had the shot of Palpatine looking wary rather than the one where he says 'Get...!' (At first I thought it was 'yeah', but I read the subtitles on the official DVD).

Other than that great stuff. :)

Oh and here's a new tribute video, this time for the saga as a whole, and it includes clips from Ady's ANH:R and even clips from the TESB:R trailer

This may have been mentioned before, but I watched AOTC and ROTS the other day, and it occured to me how easy it would be to do this.

Eliminate 'Darth" as a title. I think "Darth Maul" is only named once, and Dooku is only called "Lord Tyrannus" in AOTC and "Darth Tyrranus" only once in ROTS. Yoda calls Palpy "Darth Sidious" but I think he's "Lord Sidious" in all lines of dialogue in TPM and AOTC. Just tweaking those lines of dialogue, or just cutting the line should be relatively easy.

Frankly I don't like 'Darth' as a title because it doesn't seem to be used that way in the OT, and it instantly lead to 5,000 'Darths' in the EU, most with simply awful names, as the writers picked up a thesaurus and looked up random words with nasty connotations.

So...should we fanedit the EU?

I wish this scene had made the final cut of AOTC, poor Beru only gets to say "Hello" in the whole PT (I think it's beyond restoration):

BERU: What's it like there?

PADMÉ: I'm sorry?

BERU: On Naboo... What's it like?

PADMÉ is completely preoccupied with her concern for ANAKIN, but she does her best to reply.

PADMÉ: Oh - It's... very green. With lots of water. And trees. Not like here at all.

She takes out a tray and starts to put food on it.

BERU: I think I like it here better.

PADMÉ: Maybe you'll come and see it one day.

BERU: I don't think so. I don't like to travel.

They finish preparing the tray.

PADMÉ: (smiles) Thanks, Beru.

It sounds mundane provincial and domestic (no grand political schemes or adventurous ambitions from Beru which is possibly why Owen loves her), therefore A) nice background info, we learn a bit more about the sort of woman who will raise Luke and B) it's adds a bit of grounding realism to a film with arena monsters and battledroids.
