Puh, idk, the single tear on Mustafar already feels extremely heavy-handed, too staged. I’m not a fan of this trope.

Anyone know the context of this deleted Anakin/Palpatine scene and if it still exists somewhere?

I couldn’t find any reference from the shooting script, however here’s a passage from the novelization that takes place during this sequence:

They moved away, whirring and clanking after the Senators who were already off among the HoloNet crews. Anakin’s
smile faded as he watched them go.
He felt a presence at his shoulder and turned to find Palpatine beside him with a warm smile and a soft word, as he always seemed to be when Anakin was troubled. “What is it, Anakin?” the Chancellor asked kindly. “Something is disturbing you. I can tell.”
Anakin shrugged and gave his head a dismissive shake, embarrassed. “It’s nothing.”
“Anakin, anything that might upset a man such as yourself is certainly something. Let me help.”
“There’s nothing you can do. It’s just-” Anakin nodded after 3PO and R2. “I was just thinking that even after all I’ve done, See-Threepio is still the only person I know who calls me Master.”
“Ah. The Jedi Council.” Palpatine slid an arm around Anakin’s shoulders and gave him a comradely squeeze. “I believe I can be of some use to you in this problem after all.”
“You can?”
“I should be very much surprised if I couldn’t.”
Palpatine’s smile was still warm, but his eyes had gone distant.
“You may have noticed that I have a certain gift,” he murmured, “for getting my way.”

Working on recontextualizing the beginning of AOTC presenting Dooku MUCH earlier. The sequence playing out as follows:

  • Padme’s ship is bombed.

  • Padme in the senate (deleted scene) that intercuts with Dooku reacting (from near the end of the film, the Neimoidians redubbed and or subtitled for new context)

  • J cut that to Dooku and the CIS table talk.

After that there’s a scene inspired by a deleted scene from ROTJ where Vader force talks to Luke. Here Dooku talks to Yoda (using the scene of him after Anakin killed the Tuskens) that will feature snippets of dialogue of the duel from the end of the film, plus other dialogue implemented, e.g… “Master Yoda, the senate cannot be fixed, it is time to start over”. After that scene we cut to Palp’s office.

“It’s gonna be great”

That sounds dope af as it is. Just a thought though, you could add Mace walking in on Yoda after the force communication with dooku and have them reflect on what just happened. Maybe something like this:

Mace enters, Yoda looks troubled.

Mace: “What is it?”
Yoda: “Dooku, connected he may be to the attempt on the senator. But how, and why? Harder to answer?
Mace: “I don’t sense anything. Hmmm, I thinks it’s time that we inform the senate that our ability to use the force is finished.”
Yoda: “Only the dark lord of the Sith knows of our weakness. If informed the senate is. Multiply our adversary’s will.”

Then you’d have tension between Yoda and Mace. The later is too involved with his personal attachment to his old friend to acknowledge the truth and totally trusting of the senate, whereas Yoda is more reserved, questioning Dooku’s true allegiance, but without blind trust in the senate. This would also feed nicely into the next scene where Mace denies Dookus involvement yet again.

I’ll try that out, thank you!

Because I own a low end HP laptop, I can’t really render masks that well atm so if anyone wanted to try their hand at it I can upload the required shots to a Google Drive Folder. The workprint of the scene might be released sometime in the next few days.

EDIT:

Here’s the hardcore assembly cut of the sequence. No VFX. Audio is placeholder and no colour correction.

I like the idea of Yoda talking to Dooku at the start a lot. Could probably make a pretty compelling scene if you got creative with AI lines, and there would be no need to worry about lip syncing.

Some ideas relating to the timeline to make it match the OT’s implications a bit more.

TPM takes place years earlier then it does in canon (around 5-10). This has a ripple effect on AOTC, though ROTS has to stay the same.
Gradually we see the Jedi’s numbers decreasing. Empty seats on the council, less of them walking around. Perhaps by ROTS, there’s only a quarter of the council left. Try to make a point of the Jedi getting gradually “kicked out” of the government.
The Clone Wars lasts longer. Anakin becomes Vader in his late 20s rather then early 20s.

Give Count Dooku vampiric red eyes, akin to his Dracula days.

Got a couple of ideas for The Phantom Menace. What if Jar Jar is a bit more muscular and taller, replace Ahmed Best with Kevin Michael Richardson with new dialogue. If possible have him take down a droid speeder when he firsts encounters Qui-Gon.

You think maybe Obi Wan should already be a Jedi Knight and older in the Phantom Menace.

If I was to make a fan edit, I think I would change the prequel titles minus Revenge of the Sith. Just to mirror the original trilogy like The Phantom Menace should be ‘A New Threat’ and Attack of the Clones should be ‘The Republic Strikes Back’

I’m sorry, just hoping if I throw whatever’s in my head out and someone goes “ah that’s cool I’ll try that” and can actually pull it off if it’s a good idea. I don’t even want credit for it, if anything I said makes sense

Well you’re going around every thread on the forum proposing outlandish ideas that regardless of merits are not feasible from a technical standpoint. I appreciate your creativity but edit threads aren’t the place for things that can’t realistically be done with existing footage.

I think what you may be unaware of TDS is that everyone starts out with ideas, but it’s important to measure those against practicality. As a rule, it’s found that most of the work gets done here by people deciding ‘I’m going to do that myself’ rather than ‘Can someone else make this idea work?’ There are lots of free programs, and free teaching, that people use to realise their ideas, and they are accessible to people without any experience - the vast majority of us here are not professionals and had no or minimal experience in any of the fan editing disciplines before embarking on our projects. Similarly, at this point, the vast majority of ideas that can be had about especially the earlier movies have been had already, and more radical ones (like replace a character) are still outwith practicality. I’d recommend reading through the ideas threads, and the threads for the most successful projects, to see what the process looks like, and help refine your vision, and then consider picking up one of the tools required to realise it.

Thank you for your insight Eddie, I don’t know if I’m reading what you said was right but, it sounded like you said I was demanding if someone could make changes which is not my intention. I just want to be clear I’d never demand anything from anyone. I do appreciate what you said, I’ll read through the other threads you have suggested

Far too on the nose.

The titles already do parallel one another.

The Phantom Menance and A New Hope both describe the rise of a new heroic or villainous force that will define the galaxy.
Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back both describe the victory of the stated faction, and ties into how the Republic became the Empire, rather then the Empire taking over the Republic.
Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi are of course about the victory of each opposing Force religion.

I have considered alternative titles. “A Vergence in the Force” and “The Chosen One” are ones I’ve considered for TPM.

Interesting choices, why “The Chosen One”? For Attack of the Clones

When I came up with this thread (too scared to look). The ethos was to think outside the confines of what is obviously doable (though by no means easy) such as trims and adding deleted content and come up with ideas that really shake the prequels up and make them closer to the sort of films a viewer from 1983 would have anticipated.
There are some really great ideas in these many pages. Some that would have been very close to impossible when the thread began are now possibly doable thanks to AI voices and deep fake technology married with the ancient arts of model making and acting. This thread has always been and hopefully shall remain a place were imagination and ideas are more prominent than solutions (though both are encouraged). It is nice to see it still going.

That’s a really fair point, Bingo, I apologise to you and TDS. I was responding more to TDS specifically as they’ve raised a few ideas across the forum in various threads, but you’re entirely justified in correcting me here because, as you say, this is absolutely the place for uninhibited idea generation. My bad, carry on!
