Why were the younglings training late at night anyway?!

Even though the PT CG has plenty of issues, it’s not the reason the prequels are bad movies.

To borrow/invert an analogy from Todd in the Shadows, the CG is like the snare drum in St. Anger - there are far deeper reasons why the art piece is bad.

I didn’t say anything when you first posted this but re-watching it again just now, I really really really REALLY love this. It always felt so weird and irredeemable to me showing Anakin killing kids (meme potential aside)

I have always had the nudge to conclude AOTC with Shmi’s funereal as I believe it ties far closer to Anakin’s arc for saving Padme in ROTS.

Obviously to make it work some VFX stuff would need to be done with Anakin’s hand but great idea!

Superb. The younglings could make it to the council chamber along with Grogu and a supercut could be made. It fits into the scene so well. It really lifts it.

It’s a known fact that I am a huge fan of the Prequel Trilogy and everything that’s set during the Prequel Era in general, however one thing I never liked about the Prequel Era is the lack of realism in the numbers of the Grand Army of the Republic. In fact, officially it is estimated that during the Clone Wars the total number of Clones in service was 3 million, which is absolutely ridiculous when we consider that we’re talking about a war on a galactic scale. So, I would suggest changing Lama Su’s sentence in Attack of the Clones about the number of Clones in the Army.
The original sentence is this:

“200,000 units are ready, and a million more is well on the way.”

I’d suggest changing the sentence to become like this:

“200 billion units are ready, and a billion more is well on the way.”

This way, the number of Clones serving during the Clone Wars and then serving under the Empire would become (at least) 300 billion, wich is much more realistic on a scale of galactic proportions.

I know it’s a bit wonky but the sparing sequences in Episode 5 of OB1 seem like a better introduction to adolescent Anakin than the elevator scene in AOTC. This show might be lacking in some ways but it and The Mandaloran might serve as additional material for PT edits.

Has anybody ever tried to make reshoot footage from AOTC (read: Obi-Wan’s wig and fake beard) blend better with the principle photography shots?

If we can get a good deepfake for Anakin in that new episode of Kenobi it would be a fantastic way to introduce him in AOTC!

I think we could keep both scenes. The only thing we have to do is organizing the scenes this way:

  • Attempt on Padmé’s life
  • Obi-Wan and Anakin training duel
  • Padmé facing the Senate (deleted scene)
  • Padmé speaking with the Jedi and Palpatine
  • Elevator scene

If you were to use the new sparring scene as an intro for Anakin in an AOTC edit, it’d be cool to try and structure his arc so he eventually learns the lesson when facing dooku at the end, then imply he is knighted as a consequence.

If the end duel had Obi-Wan facing dooku alone, getting injured, then have Anakin show up, but let’s dooku go in favour of rescuing Obi-Wan after a successful duel (essentially replacing yoda in that scene) you could establish a sort of ‘lesson learned’. Like he could stop some falling rocks then lose an arm perhaps.

Just an idea anyway - I’m sure one of you will think of a better solution!

Love this and have been waiting for somebody to do it. I look forward to official edits with this scene included. This example shows just how well it would work. Well done.

I think a point of that scene is that Anakin never took that lesson to heart. Within the context of Kenobi, Vader still sort of makes the same mistake.

And I think it still works within AOTC if he ends the movie failing to learn that lesson, since we see his growth when he doesn’t rush in to face Dooku again at the beginning of ROTS.

I was thinking earlier about the Immolation scene in ROTS and how it feels off. It’s a standard complaint that the end of the fight feels small in comparison to the rest, and it has never felt right to me that Obi-wan would tout having the high ground when he’s just on a bit of a hill. Both of these issues stem from the fact that they are fighting on the side of a nondescript gully and they could have gotten off the platform whenever and wherever they wanted. Anakin could have just stepped off the platform and walked around Obi-wan, but instead he attempts a dramatic leap over his head.

The obvious solution would be to change this hillside into something more dramatic, and I imagine it wouldn’t be too terribly difficult to change some of the landscape to indicate that this gentle slope is actually a narrow promontory surrounded on both sides by fissures or sheer cliff walls.

Original Location:
Original

Dramatic Peninsula:
Dramatic

There are quite a few shots of this location across two scenes, but I imagine with all the smoke and distortion to hide imperfections, it wouldn’t be an insurmountable task.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

What if someone took the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and added it into a cut of ROTS? I know there’s been plenty of 4-hour cuts of ROTS that include Clone Wars material that are made in the spirit of the legendary 4-hour cut that Lucas supposedly made. I wonder if the same could be done with the Obi-Wan series instead.

Thought I’d experiment a little. Aged up Anakin similar to his appearance in the Kenobi flashbacks.

One idea I had was going all-out with changes in Episode I, which is a prequel 3-in-1. Then the Cassian Andor show is Episode II, followed by Rogue One as Episode III.

Author

Honestly, I’m not really a fan of the “alt PT that includes Rogue One” ideas. Like aside from that hardly really being a fixed ver of the Prequel trilogy, imo they don’t quite gel together storywise.

The only thing I think could really fit an alt PT thing would be the Kenobi series, since it follows a main character from one trilogy, and a prominent secondary character from the other.

It also kinda sorta fits with this brief description at about 4:14 in with what Mark says, but with Leia instead of Luke and a bit older, if someone wanted to tackle the prequels from that earlier concept angle.
