The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 363

Wait, how is lightning absorption a tertiary Force ability from Empire?

One could interpret energy absorption as an ability Vader uses when Han shoots his blaster at him.

And if it only works against Force lightning, the ability to negate another Force ability seems lame, especially since AOTC neutered the ability before it appeared by showing that lightsabers can do the same job just as well.

I think it was ray_afraid who said that one of the things that would add more depth to the OT was if Aunt Beru was Anakin’s sister who was also Force-sensitive.

While I agree that Beru should be depicted as someone who had a deep, meaningful, and close-bonding relationship with Anakin (like maybe a sister?) instead of just being two people who briefly meet, I also believe that it would be the kind where if Anakin never left Tatooine and became a Jedi, they would’ve ended up being married (that doesn’t mean she should be depicted as his girlfriend).

Kittster, Anakin’s friend in episode 1, should have been Owen.

I wonder if it’s possible to make him Owen, and then change the introduction to Owen & Beru in AotC so he’s only being introduced to Beru.

Oh yes, let’s whitewash the little brown kid to look like a young Joel Edgerton. What could possibly go wrong?

In all seriousness tho, it might be passable if you could get the skin tone and hair to match, but like I said, might trigger some people.

Yeah, I agree. It’s a good idea though but I don’t think it can really work because of this right here.

I’m not very radical about the Prequels, because I love the movies as they are and I don’t think there’s much to change. However, if I have to think about some radical changes, then a good idea would be to turn Attack of the Clones into Episode I by incorporating some flashbacks from The Phantom Menace to establish the relationship between Anakin and his mother and why it’s so important in Attack of the Clones itself. After that, turning Tartakovsky’s series into Episode II by merging all episodes into one big movie, and then leaveing Revenge of the Sith as Episode III, maybe making Padmé die because of the injuries she had on Mustafar because of Anakin, instead of making her die of broken heart. The Phantom Menace would still exist but it would turn into a simple spin off. This is the most radicalism I can come up with when it comes to the Prequels. It’s my limit and I really can’t cross it.

Yep, I will admit I wasn’t thinking when I said that. I hadn’t watched the movies in a while and forgot his friend wasn’t another white kid.

I was actually toying around with the idea of making Attack of the Clones episode one just like you mentioned with some flashbacks added. Could be dream sequences for Anakin even. There’s a deleted scene of him waking up from a dream while they’re heading to Naboo that could be added to give another flashback even.

But my idea is for the trilogy would be Attack of the Clones E1, Revenge of the Sith E2 and a movie edit of Kenobi as E3.

Lol at including an animated character in a live-action sequence. Jarring as hell. Otherwise this is promising.

It’s for my RotS/TCW edit so it comes after a good 40+ minutes of back forth, which I personally find less jarring than the storytelling possibilities 😃

So I think we could use that Order 66 flashback and imply that the kids that were with that Jedi are the ones Obi-Wan and Yoda are looking at in the aftermath of the temple assault. I was hoping there might be some Order 66 carnage in this so we can cut Anakin killing kids himself (which I’ve always hated) but still have an explanation for the dead padawans.

Has anybody thought of a way to insert Smit’s Bail Organa into TPM, either in physical form (during the senate scene) or just in voice (replace “Antilles” with “Organa”)?

I’m surprised that there isn’t a cgi fan edit team that would update the cgi of both the prequels and good cgi scenes from the original trilogy like bespin etc.

I wish a fan edit would include upgrading the extremely dated cgi. unreal engine 5 blew my mind. I wish cgi fan editor teams existed.

I like it, but I would keep Anakin killing the younglings. I mean, it would be better if after the Kenobi scene, we jump on Utapau to see Obi-Wan, and then we return in the Temple, and everything else is like in the original ROTS. This way, we can imply that Anakin is killing the same younglings we see in the Kenobi scene.

This doesn’t exist because it would be a massive undertaking to redo the special effects of a movie trilogy with a budget of $343 million and a project with a budget of $10 million. Anyone with the means to do something like this would not be wasting their time on a legally grey fan project they could never be paid for.

Yeah but doesn’t unreal engine 5 make things a little easier and looks extremely realistic. I thought that wouldn’t be that hard for some team to do to improve the films cgi. I get what your saying about wanting to be paid to do it I just thought there were fanboys and fangirls who’d do it because they are fans and would love to improve the look of the films that’s all.

While it’s true that it’s more accessible than ever to render fairly realistic looking materials and 3D models, we don’t have access to any of the original CGI assets used in the movies, so first you’d need to recreate everything (every character, planet, vehicle, prop etc.) to a realistic level of detail. Notice that a lot of the CG fan-films on YouTube mostly stick to what’s able to be ripped from Battlefront 2 to avoid doing this. This is already a monumental undertaking, but even with all the assets you’d be far from done - every scene would require painstakingly arranging your new props to match the original ‘set’, lighting it, animating all the moving parts, matching the camera moves… We’re talking a time investment of years for a large team. And that’s without even mentioning how you’d need to either digitally recreate every live-action extra (think of all the Lucasfilm/ILM staff members hidden in the opera scene) or cast and costume your own replacements for them. And then even with the best execution in the world, it’d still inevitably not quite fit with the non-redone parts of the movie.

Oh that’s too bad because yes the original trilogy cgi aged horribly but the prequel trilogy aged even worse because it’s in most of the prequel films. 😦
