I think it would be an awesome twist if Sidious was kept secret until Episode II. Audiences watch Episode I and assume Dooku is the big bad and Maul his apprentice. Go through Episode II knowing about Dooku and suspecting him to make the Empire. And then at the end, we reveal Dooku is just another pawn in a far greater conspiracy.

I know it doesn’t really matter now: everyone knows Sidious is behind it all now, but if we were designing this edit for someone who’s never seen the PT I think this would be a much better way to go about it.

Conceptually, it makes sense, and would work if PM was a differently-structured movie.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work with the overall 6 movie structure since seeing Palpatine’s subtle machinations are key to the entire overarching plot.

I don’t think it’s as difficult as you’d expect.

Step One: Pixalate the Palpatine Hologram and deep-ify the voice, like a mysterious Bond villain.

Step Two: Rotoscope Dooku into some key scenes. I recall a fanedit inserting Dooku into the Jedi Council scene in TPM, but I can’t find it anywhere on Youtube. I probably saw it here through a Vimeo link. But if we added Dooku to the Jedi Council we’d have an establishing scene.

Step Three: The hardest part would be inserting Dooku into the Palpatine / Maul scene. This would be the one time he actually talks, possibly using deleted scenes dialogue. Maybe cut the scene entirely and redub the Maul Apprentice scene in the ship meditating.

So it’s very simple, but enough for first-time viewers to put together the puzzle. A mysterious Sith is talking to Gunray, but we can’t connect the voice (which has been altered through the hologram) to Palpatine. Then, we see a Jedi Council member working with the Sith Maul. So the big bad must be Dooku!

Palpatine would remain seemingly innocent until the big reveal at the end of Episode II.

A really ambitious project would incorporate Grievous in all 3 somehow, like the guy who made him Maul.

Maybe…there is a way to incorporate grievous even earlier. Maybe into the ATOC droid army. Or even further into the Neomoidian army as a lowly TK4 Roger Roger droid who wants to be more.

Or even more ambitious…make him Darth Jar Jar after all.

If I had the deepfake skills, I would edit in Maul and Grievous and Dooku to meet.

Grievous could be leading the droid army in TPM in his natural Kaleesh form, then shows up rebuilt in AotC after being aboard the Donut when it explodes. Really, though, any such additions are beyond any of our skills.

Really, the most we could hope for is maybe adding him to the background of the Separatist meeting in AotC.

An idea for AOTC:
Establish in the opening crawl of AOTC that the events of TPM and the sub sequential fall of Nute Gunray caused the Trade Federation to crumble and sparked a civil war. Furthermore republic forces, lead by the former Jedi Count Dooku, have been tasked to settle the conflict. The footage from the Battle of Geonosis could be used to show Dookus crusade, maybe in a montage or something.

Now here comes the actual clue, tell that the Clone Army has been ordered by former members of Trade Federation. This resolves the mystery around their creation and prevents any more investigation by the Jedi due to urge to weaken the enemy, by snatching their army.
Disconnecting the clones from the republic army, shown prior in the edit, should be doable, because there are actually just 2 shots of the Clones wearing their armor while on Kamino.

To top things off, Dookus alliance with the the separatist could be hidden until after Obi-Wan got captured, and played as a twist when Anakin and Padme go to Geonosis (which would now be a warzone) to rescue Obi-Wan and seek out Dooku for help. Dookus turn would sort off mirror Landos in Empire and especially the deleted scene where Padme tries o bargain with Dooku would fit perfectly, albeit some adjustments would be necessary.

What do you think?

I wonder if footage of younger Christopher Lee could be used as a flashback?

So do you plan on removing all allusions to the Clones being on the Republic’s side? Not only does that sound like a nightmare but I just don’t see the point.

Years ago I tried using footage of him as Dracula. Not sure if it was any good. What kind of flashback did you have in mind?

I did that in my RotS fanedit, it’s not too much of a pain.

Not exactly, in my head the clones would still end up fighting for the republic, because they simply paid more than the original customers, which were some later separatist in lead with Sifo-Dias.
Maybe there is a way to imply that Jango was supposed to receive the army for the separatists, he would tie the clones origin closer to the separatist and the war in general.

The point is mainly that I just dislike how the Jedi do nothing to investigate the clones shady origin, which includes the completly unknown Tyrannus, the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who later works for Dooku, who disappeared roughly around the time of the creation of the clones and the death of one of their fellow Jedi knights.

And on top of this stupid behavior on behalf of the Jedi, Sidious big Masterplan is just not thought out and rest upon Obi-Wan finding this army by accident, although the Sith tried to hide Kamino in the first place by erasing the archives memory.
So Sidious Plan is apparently expect-the-unexpected to the power of C3POs stochastics, and I just don’t buy that.

In my opinion cutting the plot about Kamino being wiped from the archives memory and giving some sort of cover up story for the clones would lift most of these inconveniences. Atleast apart from Obi-Wan hitting on this crucial part of Sidious Plan by accident, but maybe he used Jango to guide him there or something. Overall I think that this would be much easier to follow for the audience, once we learn that Dooku is Tyrannus and yet raise less suspicions that should be obvious to the Jedi and everybody in the Senat.

P.S.: I’m not yet finished 😄
On top of that, Dooku turning in this movie would show him change from an unifier trying to settle a war into a tyrant starting a crusade against his former allies, in whom he lost fade, due to them being responsible of the conflict he has just settled and the lack of support they refused to offer him.
I think this would make for a very interesting read of Dooku and give him some graspable motives, which he was desperately missing in AOTC and the prequels as a whole.

Things I would like that are technically possible but would be a bitch to pull of

Making the Droids Clones and Clones regular soldiers. Maybe have the suggestion that The Droids have Cloned Brain matter of something? Deepfake all the Clone faces or even Deepfake the droids?

Make kid Anakin look Padmes age. Voice pitch lower, Deepfake face, make him look taller through shot selection or increase his size somehow with rotoscoping?

Have Owen be Anakin’s older brother. Deepfake someone for a few brief scenes, get other movies Joel Edgerton starred in and rotoscope him? Dubb him in ATOTC?

Make Grievous and Maul the same person. Dub Grievous but then also add a more climactic showdown between him and Obi Wan instead of just Obi Wan lamely shooting him through animation?

Add Dooku into TPM and set him up as either the bad guy or a rouge Jedi destroying the republic because the Sith have infiltrated it?

Making Naboo Alderaan and making Padme a relative of Bail

Take out C-3p0

Having The Ewoks in ROTJ look completely different or be Wookies through Deepfakes

Have The Second Death Star be some new superweapon

Redubb the whole Obi Wan-Luke conversation (no more "from a certain point of view"bs)

Have Han,Chewie and Lando Die (reediting? Not sure where we would get Leia’s reaction shot)

Have Luke walk off into the sunset (maybe Mandalorean footage?)

Everything after Empire Strikes Back is shit.

Instead of Dooku flying off to Coruscant to meet with Palpatine at the end of AOTC, have him fly to Exegol. Why? No reason. I think it’d be cool to put sequel stuff in the prequels.

Author

Would certainly make for more continuity. I plan to make Exegol Coruscant in my edits anyway.

Well you’ll have to get very creative to explain how a former Galactic capital home to trillions is now an unreachable MacGuffin (unless you get rid of the wayfinder hunt subplot somehow). It would be easier to pretend Exegol is Korriban.

The Exegol in AOTC sounds interesting…

Does it really need an explanation? Mustafar has trees now, after all.

A contradiction needs an explanation for the story to be coherent and consistent. Also, it was never implied in TRoS that, that specific planet was Mustafar, it was only stated in ancillary material.

My plan is for the Sith Eternal being underground in the Sith Temple deep below the Jedi Temple. The city is intact and the planet is not hidden. It’s just no one realizes it’s Exegol.

So this would require green-screening in the characters and ships and re-coloring them to fit the color of Coruscant.

Doesn’t sound very feasible. And from what I remember, didn’t this whole conversation start with you criticizing someone’s prequel ideas for being unfeasible? Ironic.

Author

I guess that’s fair. I think it can maybe be done. Literally all that needs to change is those one or two rare shots of the surface during the space battle and an extra line or two.

I voiced an idea years ago, but it could be reworked perhaps.

What if GEONOSIS is a secret superweapon, which utilises a secret technology to jump around the galaxy to launch surprise military attacks. It would have the ability to just churn out Droid armies.

I figured that the film could open with the Jedi Arena attack, and it’d just disappear as they make their escape in orbit. Part of the whole film would have the Jedi searching for it - Obi Wan would follow Jango Fett and find the planet, allowing the Republic to make an invasion with the Clone Army.

What if at the climax it makes some sort of faulty jump and it’s assumed it’s destroyed. In the ST it has been rediscovered (as EXEGOL) ready to create droids that are much more terrifying?

Even so, it’s a big planet. Not all of it’s going to look identical to how it does in Revenge of the Sith.

Does somebody know of a clip of Sir Christopher Lee using the word clone(s)?
