The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 217

When I heard Liam Neeson had been cast, I was excited. But I also believed Lucas was drawing a lot from his 1st draft of star wars.... Anyway, in that draft, Anakin has a father named Kane Starkiller.... I thought maybe we were going to get Kane Skywalker father of Anakin. Oh well... Instead we got a Jedi master that was so important that he should have been mentioned in 4-6.... But alas, he's not.... Anyone remember when Lucas said he wrote the prequels 20 or so years ago... =/

The silhouette idea could work well, I think

If someone wants to bypass the baseship business.

OW and QG are in the foreground on the bridge, backs to us?

Alter the audio of their baseship expo so it sounds like their backs are turned?

Ship is shot and has to make a crash landing beyond Theed?

Show crew in cockpit with battle damage and smoke and battledroids appearing in foreground to arrest them with forest out the window? Then show QG running?

Introduce mysterious boy, seen from the back, in council examination?

     Trying to guess. :)

    Instead of saving time...

Maybe the crawl in Ep I could state that the seperatist leader, the mysterious Dukoo, is creating clones and that the Feds are playing a double game, threatening to join the seperatists with their droid army if the senate doesn't let them have their way on Naboo.

Maybe alien dialgue could be added in Ep I and Ep II senate to reinforce (silhouette dialogue of Jedi too?) Maybe cut the part of the clones in ST armor on Kamino. Make it seem like the clones are for the seperatists. At the last moment, in the arena, we learn they are for the Republic.

In an edit for min time and for enthusiasts, I'd say drop em on the planet as quickly as possible or bypass alltogether.

If a couple of minutes can be spared in a longer edit, newbs and casual viewers might need some expo about the Force and situation. The expo might be dropped while the intercut  manace is building against them.

The reason for 3 crawls is to explain the switch from queen to senator. I've tried and failed to find another way, such as making PA a senator from the start. If someone else could find a solution.... Otherwise, have fun writing crawls :)

The only part of 3PO that is definitely out of place in a more grim edit, IMHO, is the arena exclamations and smiling green tentacles.

Any edit have R2 simply pushing 3PO over and then letting himself fall (ala ROTJ) and then picking up action after he lands?

I love the PT visuals. Makes me want an "adult SF buff" version of I and II

How about renaming Qui Gon as 'Obi Wan'.  And renaming Obi Wan as 'Kane Starkiller'?  It would then be Obi Wan who discovers Anakin (in keeping with what is suggested in ANH) and Kane could be Obi Wan's 'other' apprentice (the one hinted at in ANH).

This would help retain the surprise of Vader being Luke's father, as the audience would think that Ewan McGregor's character is the one who becomes Vader and kills Anakin.

A simple bit of dialogue replacement is all that would be needed to achieve this.  And a re-edit of the ending, so that Liam Neeson (Obi Wan) survives the fight with Maul.  And remove any references of McGregor's character becoming Anakin's mentor.

Of course, this would be impossible to carry on into AotC and RotS.  But it would help eliminate the unecessary character of Qui Gon, whilst strengthening the Obi Wan character and retaining the surprises of the OT.

 Spoiler free for the ST

I've always wanted to see all those early drafts filmed.

I thought CG-Yoda in TPM on BR was a well accepted fact.

As did I. In fact, when I saw Star Wars in Concert, I was pretty sure that I saw some of the CGI Yoda from TPM scenes among the clips...

By extension of recent posts on the ANH Redux Thread if Padme has to die so soon it could be implied that she wills herself to die so that Vader/Palpatine will sense the two children as being herself and one child.

You would have to cut the funeral (and possibly have Padme appear as a Force ghost or in dreams to Leia to make her comments in ROTJ ring true) but it makes more sense than having Padme selfishly die while her children need protection, this way she selflessly sacrifices herself to save her children.

Nobody knows about the twins until they pop out, if Vader thinks he has one child it gives him another motive for tracking Luke down because he can sense what he thinks is Padme close to him some of the time (why he never picked up anything while Leia was his prisoner in ANH is a tricky thorn in this scenerio).

Oh, one ref to coruscant I completely missed before seeing it here :o)

Obi is in pretty good shape after  the fight. I thought he might bear some physical scars from the encounter back to the core. Provide some expo as to why Yoda and others can overcome limits when the Force flows. Why he can fight Palpy.

A (slightly) less radical edit would be to have Obi sacrifice himself and his fighter to save the younger and more powerful Jedi for the mission. Thought that in the battle, Obi could meneuver his ship behind Ani's to take the hits (B of Midway.) Ani could take charge of the mission, but it seems like Obi's lost. A desolate "I've lost wing leader, I'm going in." over the coms. Then the hero reappears at the last moment to save Ani and Obi survives.

Could each squadron have it's own control officer at the command center (B of Britain) Mostly female? Different holo stations for controls and for commanders. Create sense of larger battle. I like the idea of doing everything possible to recreate that WWII, and before vibe. :)

At least the CGI Yoda looked more like the original puppet Yoda. The new puppet Yoda they used in the movie didn't look like the original.

I never liked TPM Yoda. He looked weedy and stiff.

CGI version ain't much of an improvement, but at least they're being consistent with the rest of the PT.

TPM Yoda is an abomination, which looks more like "random green creature" than Yoda.

Don't worry, I'll say it again.

Having watched the parts of the prequels with Yoda in it for a study I should really do something about, I have to say that the CGI Yoda is pretty awful at times.

Those are screencaps of a youtube video of a consumer camera pointed at a screen on a Star Wars In Concert stage. It is not indicative of actual coloring.

i think the worse part of CGI Yoda was his duel with Count Dooku. That just looked rediculous to me. By ROTS though, it wasn't as bad.

Yoda (or Palpatine) plus Lightsaber equals author not understanding his own creation.

It sort of looked greendiculous to me, but maybe I was looking at the wrong lightsaber.

Anyway, Yoda's duel with Palps in ROTS was worse - it went on longer.
