My girlfriend is super approachable so apparently that’s made her a magnet for people with suicidal thoughts and she’s stuck having to talk them out of it time and time again (different people, mind you). How can she break out of this cycle? She tries to redirect them to suicide hotlines but it doesn’t work.

I’ve been in this situation on both sides. A mental health therapist told me, just don’t reply or lead them on. By actively engaging in the messaging, you are enabling them to continue going to you for support instead of them doing it themselves.

I’m no mental health therapist, but is it not dangerous to make them feel they’re ignored / have no one to turn to? I’m not saying your recommendation is a bad one, I only want to discuss.

Let me rephrase better. Talk to them and assure them you are there, but make it clear they can’t rely on you for help and that you NEED to take steps to help yourself and reach out to a professional.

I’m approaching the final semester of my college education and I’m trying and failing at blocking out the existential dread that school work causes.

At the start of the year I was riding the high of my graduating project, and kept tinkering with it, and I got into Stranger Things and Batman. There was still school, and I went to France for a week (which sounds amazing until you realize I went for three weeks the summer prior so it’s more like a little epilogue than anything). Then covid happened, and in the summer my interests started drying up. By fall I was wallowing mess. Eventually I managed to pick myself up. Around that time I got a girlfriend, but that just ended yesterday. Still, I’m glad it happened. Nice to at least have experience, and it ended on friendly terms. Oh yeah, and my server went from bustling and lively to a ghost town through a series of falling outs. Thank god for Warbler at this point.

Sometimes college makes me feel like that quote from Bilbo where he said the ring made him feel stretched too thin like too much butter over too little bread. It’s only my first day back and already I am weary.

I’m still in a rut over my recent breakup. Why is it so hard to meet women on the Internet? I looked into it and apparently Reddit (which I use regularly) is the most male dominated social site while Pinterest (which I can’t fucking stand) is the most female dominated social site. Jeez, talk about bad odds. Where can I meet women? Oh and don’t say dating apps because those are fuckin’ horrible. You don’t even know anyone there, how are you supposed to know if you wanna date 'em? I need an opportunity to get to know a person first.

Not sure how old you are but college worked best for me. Kinda hard given the world today though.

I’m not gonna say I have any better options, but the internet is a terrible place to “get to know a person” regardless of what website it happens on. I’m also not saying that meeting people online is a bad thing. But the internet wouldn’t be my first choice for looking for dates.

Keep in mind that I’m not talking from any actual dating experience. Just that the internet is constantly deceptive, whether a person intends to be or not.

But, I don’t disagree with the sentiment. It would be nice if meeting people on the internet was easier. Maybe try to engage in other communities that interest you (not on reddit).

I am in college! Socially distanced college. My classes are all online. Idk if you guys have heard but there’s a bit of a plague going around. The internet is literally my only option.

Good luck flirting during class, over video chat. You can dm during the class but I feel like everyone kinda wants to pay attention, not to mention it’s pretty hard to break the ice in such situations.

My maternal grandfather died at age 89. Feeling a little down.
