Sadly we are going to have to find another print. The one I have has turned out to be toxic, and damn near killed me. We are yet to ascertain what the substance is on the print, but it is very bad news.

The print is also pretty bad shape.

Here is a sample.

I’m really sorry about this, I got completely screwed by the seller, I am on the lookout for a replacement.

YIKES. I’m so sorry this happened to you. Best of luck finding a clean print!

Yeah, if it’s in bad shape and it could, you know, kill you, get rid of it. Don’t risk your life for a prequel movie!

That is a shame. You wouldnt think film restoration would be so hazardous to ones health.

No chance you got anything with subtitles?

He said it was a Russian print, so I doubt it.

Holy hell! I thought “toxic”, like, toxic fandoms, but literally toxic? X.X

I had the same thoughts as Ash. However according to Bobson Dugnutt’s preservation page the font used for the theatrical subs are “ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold, 69 point with -30 tracking”

I’d give that a shot as this came from starwars.com when they were in production for TPM.

Actually there’s lots about celluloid that is toxic. The silver-applicated soundtracks contain toxic carcinogenic chemicals, magnetic soundtracks are toxic as well, certain cleaning fluids are toxic, the fumes from vinegar syndrome are toxic, and it wouldn’t surprise me if projector oil is toxic as well. And let’s not forget that Nitrate can self-ignite if not stored below 20°C, and even when it’s not self-igniting it can be giving off toxic poisonous fumes simply from decomposition. When it does catch fire the smoke is poisonous.

That would be great if that font variation actually existed anywhere. What’s on the print as far as we can tell is a different digitization of the font as many of the characters are slightly different from what’s available online for purchase or otherwise.

This shot here looked terrible on all releases with its blown out red shadows, made me wonder it was something to do with the digital scanning creating artefacts.

Nope, its the same on the print. The compositing and grading on this film is suprisingly awful.

Damn shame about this print, any chance you could get your money back or something as I’m sure this was a big investment for you and the backers.
I’d say that if you could get the exclusive footage from the theatrical cut like the Naboo Bridge or the human senate aides then do it, but if it’s toxic and could kill you, then don’t worry about it. Your health is more important to anything to us Potia. Hopefully the Attack of the Clones print doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Pretty sure the AOTC print came from a U.S. seller.

It’s fairly easy to find that font online to download. As for the -30 tracking it depends on the software you’re using on if you can do that or not.

If poita gives the OK I can upload a HQ encode of the entire reel.

I would love that, just so we have some film copy of the alterations available, even if it’s not at optimal quality. It’s something we can you around with for the moment.

Please guys I encourage everyone to send poita a donation if you can, even if you’re disappointed about TPM (I’m disappointed too). But the ESB print is fantastic and desperately needs saving! 😃 And there are other promising opportunities to do with SW as well, so don’t let this discourage the donations, it’s just a small setback.

@trillary: thank you very much for sharing this link. But I’m not sure it is exactly the same font as in the movie (actually, I’m pretty sure it isn’t).

@poita: IMHO, please do not risk your health, especially if the end result is not worth it. Other opportunities will come…

Here’s an example of the font I found compared to the Z bootleg (provided by Bobson). It seems to be in the right font family if it’s not the correct one, but IMHO it seems to be close enough for the time being.

Looks good as far as I can tell.

That would be awesome that way we could have a high quality version. Would it be in 4k?
