This project looks awesome! Is this also going to be triple flashed like the SE 97 Trilogy or just single?

It’ll be done at the same facility the same way. I’m not abreast of the exact technical details.

What’s the latest update on this project, how’s it going? I’m thinking about donating.

Yes, please do send a donation to poita! It would be greatly appreciated, the information is in the first post of this thread.

I believe poita will be getting this scanned next (after ANH: SE but before the other special editions). 😃

Yes it will be done after ANH, as for triple flashing, it depends on testing and how much funding we get.
If there is no real difference between single and triple flash (which depending on the print is sometimes the case) then it will probably be single flash, as this project hasn’t proven popular, there is very little funds for it at the moment.

I’m not sure if this is appropriate to ask but how much money do you guys still need?

Edit: I also have one more question, will this print be scanned in 4K?

Short answer: a LOT, please donate!

Yes 4K full aperture which itself is about 2x the resolution of the TITANIC scan for example. And depending on the hardware that itself may be downscaled from the native resolution of 5K or 6K.

Oh wow, I’m all in! It’s gonna be a little while before I get paid but I will definitely be sending a donation in the near future!

So I noticed that it’s been a while since an update for this project. Is this still going to go underway after SW 97 or is it being pushed back for that new ESB print?

Author
Time

I think it’s still on track, the main delay was the scanner malfunctioning and needing repairs as talked about in the Special Edition thread. The new ESB print isn’t going to be scanned right away. But its purchase has likely reduced poita’s spending money for a while meaning more donations will certainly help to get this done!

Ah gotcha. How much in donations do you think will help get things going? Or possibly just have the changed footage scanned first so there can be a proper theatrical reconstruction until the print can be fully scanned?

Well, I know the remaining uncovered cost for the new Empire print alone is in the $2,000 range, and that doesn’t even cover the scanning process itself, which he still needs help with for all the prints needing to be scanned (97SE, new ESB80 print, and TPM).

I’m updating here as I can’t do any TPM work until the SE is finished scanning, so just letting people know how the timeline is looking.

Any chance you have some photos of frames with subtitles on them?

Give me some frames from a home release and I’ll take a look.

Any frame will do. I can tell you that subtitles appear 450 ft from the start of reel 2 and 582 ft from the start of reel 3

Problem is no home release ever had the subs burned in. The Japanese Laserdisc has no English subs at all.

“no home release ever had the subs burned in.” So the VHS releases don’t count then?

The Bunny, The Bunny, woah, I love The Bunny

Danfun, do you also love the soup and the bread, or just the bunny?

Use of the bunny outside off topic is getting out of hand.
When outside off topic, use a link to the bunny if you really feel the need to invoke it.
Warnings will be next if some restraint is not shown.

Yes they would, but with the OT they didn’t always use the theatrical font. I presume the OP wants to see what was actually on release prints.

Yep. The Old HDTV has burn in that has the wrong font, style and timing, Theres also a new HDTV version with the correct timing, very similar style but not quite, and a few corretions.

Getting a close look at the 35mm is what i need for my TPM restoration (yeah, im doing one too.)
