A couple of questions:
Is a Grindhouse release on the cards?

Harmy’s Grindhouse of Jedi is from these scans, is it not?

I was wondering more about Star Wars '77 - there hasn’t been a Grindhouse version released to my knowledge - but as Poita is producing all new restorations from multiple prints any fresh Grindhouse takes on ESB and JEDI may be marginally superior (ie; worn-looking as opposed to tattered) to the -1 and Harmy cuts. While I do treasure the existing GH editions, ESB is rough almost to the point of distraction in some spots. A slightly more refined GH preservation would be a very appealing prospect to me although I can completely understand if this is neither a real priority nor something that fits conveniently into this project’s workflow. Once again, huge props and thanks to Poita, Harmy, tN1, et al for their hard work. Legends all.

… keep in mind I have not done a colour grade yet, and this does not match the print very closely.

GEFORCE GTX 1080NOTIFY ME: Be informed of when the product is available to order

Engadget: NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 GPU is faster than Titan X, lands May 27
“NVIDIA didn’t have too many technical details to share about either card, but it gave out a few stats: The 1080 pumps out 9 teraflops and packs in 8GB of Micron’s new GDDR5X RAM. The 1070, which is also faster than the Titan X, spits out 6.5 teraflops and also has 8GB of RAM …”

Have you looked into workstation cards rather than gaming cards? I don’t know if you’d do a whole lot better with price v. performance, but just a thought.

Workstation cards are slower and more than twice the money. If the software used FP64 then workstation cards would be considerably better, but none of the restoration suites use it, so the Titan X is currently the fastest thing available within the affordability bounds of mere humans, the 1080 will make things more affordable and bring a little extra performance (9TF vs 7TF) where 8GB of RAM is enough, and the 1070 will bring good performance at a relatively low cost, i.e. slightly slower than the Titan X but less than half its price. (6.5TF vs 7TF).

The ‘twice as fast’ that NVidia are quoting is only for VR performance where the new cards only render high detail in the centre and low detail towards the edges, not on normal compute tasks.

I watched the clips, and may I say, holy shit! They are amazing! I think that the skin tones in the Empire clip are a bit rosy, but I think that’s negligible since the PQ is so great. Can’t wait to see what comes out of this.

It’s a red faded print and just a temporary color adjustment.

That’s what I figured. Still great though.

As for names, I suggest - Star Wars 35mm: The Poita No Return

That name is already taken! It was used for the dub of the EIAJ open-reel video set.

He could go with “Team Puggo’s Despecialized Grindhouse: The Ridiculousness Revisted”.

That actually might be a better name for the EIAJ open-reel video set.

Poita and Williarob both have a beta version of the color restoration tool I’ve developed. Hopefully they’ll be able to put it to good use. Here’s an example of what the tool can do to aid the process of restoring the colors of the red faded TESB print scan, that poita will be using for his restoration:
