ok,  I'm on the league's "draft central" page.   Is that where I have to be in order join the draft when its time?

Is she just auto-drafting?

btw, there will be a chat feature in the draft room, so i would suggest using that for questions once it is available

Draft room is now open.  You can access it from either your team page or the league page.  See you there!

btw, anyone who knows the basketball scores - please don't mention them!  I've got the games on DVR.  Thanks.

Warb, I just read this.  You need to click on the "league" or "my team" buttons to get to a page that has the draft link.  The "draft central" button won't get you there.

Well, hope everyone enjoyed the draft.  I had a blast, if you couldn't tell by my continuous blabbering.  Anyway, if you have any questions about your roster, free agents, trades, or the waiver process, just post 'em here.

Update time...

Waivers are scheduled to run early morning on Tuesday March 30.  That means get your waiver claims in before then.

Waiver priority is inverse relationship to draft order:

1. Ripplin
2. danielle
3. Elbarto
4. Davnes
5. vfp
6. Sluggo
7. Warbler
8. Anchorhead
9. TVF
10. Murry

At the moment, all free agents are on waivers (note that all free agents are listed with a "W (Mar 30)".  If you want to pick up a free agent, you have to choose a current player on your team to drop.  On Tuesday, if you're the only person to claim that free agent, you'll receive that player and drop the player you picked to drop.  If you and another person both claim the same free agent, the person with the higher waiver claim gets the player.

If you are successful in your waiver claim, your waiver priority drops to the back and everyone behind you moves up one spot.  For instance, if Ripplin makes a successful claim, he moves all the way down to 10, Murry moves up to 9, TVF to 8, and so on up to danielle at 1.  If vfp makes a successful claim, the top 4 spots are unchanged, sluggo moves up to 5, Warbler up to 6, and so on, with vfp moving to 10.

After waivers are run on Tuesday, every player that is unclaimed becomes a free agent (they will now be listed with a "FA" instead of "W").  You can add a free agent at any time without worrying about the waiver process, and the transaction will be processed immediately.  Any player you drop goes on waiver and will go through the same 2-day waiver process as all available players are going through right now.

Any questions on this process, please ask.

I did my other draft tonight. Only 5 players in that game, so we all have pretty great teams. One guy couldn't make it and got Joe Nathan as an auto-draft pick. :p

I tried to get a good balance. I drafted speed a couple of times (one of my worst categories last year), with 121 steals between Carl Crawford and Michael Bourn last season. We have holds in our league, too, so I picked up Affeldt, Guerrier and Gregerson. (95 between them) We didn't use the catcher position last year, but are this year, so I grabbed Mauer as my first pick, as I did in the OT draft. I drafted pitching early, too, whereas everyone else was going for power. Got Lincecum, Verlander and Greinke! :o

So how does everyone think I did for my first ever fantasy league draft?

Plenty of power. Some of the pitching is a bit iffy, but who knows? And I notice you picked ManRam. (Manny Ramirez) I'm interested to see how he does. He's an absolute beast of a player when he's healthy!

Overall, pretty good for a first timer, I'd say. :)

I was pretty impressed as it was going on Warb, but let me check your final roster...

...yeah, I agree with Rip.  It's a pretty good team for your first time.  I actually think your starting pitching is pretty strong (when you get two top guys like CC and Lee, and then can have solid guys like Hanson and Baker at #3 and #4, that's pretty good).

RP is your real weak spot.  You have a couple guys who will probably start the year on the DL and a couple of guys who may not get many saves.

Speaking of which, do you understand how the DL spots work?

Rip, you said you're in a 5 team league?  There must be a ton of great free agents...

could you explain how the DL spots work?

I have faith the Lidge will be back and perhaps almost as good has he was in 2008.

I basically tried to draft like as if I was drafting real team and that our teams were going to play against each other.    Was that a good or bad strategy?

Good strategy. You have to think about the fantasy league before the real one in this case, to a certain extent.

For example, if our league used the holds category, and I was drafting and noticed no one was taking guys who did holds, I'd be sure to grab one who does so I'd lead in that category.

Let's take Lidge as an example for the DL (assuming he'll start the season there, haven't heard yet for sure).  Once the Phillies announce he's been moved to the DL, Yahoo will put a red "DL" tag next to his name.  Once that happens, you can move him from your active roster (RP or BN position) to a DL position.  When you do that, you will have one empty spot on your roster which you can fill with a free agent.  The free agent can be another RP, but can also be a SP or even a batter at any position.  It's up to you who you want to replace him with.

You have 3 DL spots.  If you have 4 players on your team that are tagged DL, you can have 3 of them on the DL spots so you can replace them with free agents.  The 4th player will have to occupy one of your bench spots, or you can drop him into the free agent pool and replace him with another free agent (not a good idea if he's a good player, because someone else will pick him up once he clears waivers).

Now, let's say Lidge has been on the DL for 2 weeks and he's finally been activated by the Phillies.  Yahoo will remove the red "DL" tag from his name, but you actually can leave him in the DL slot as long as you like.  The trick is you can't make any other transactions (trades or free agents) as long as a non-DL player is parked in your DL spot.  However, you can still move players between active positions and your bench, so it can be a useful place to keep a hurt player until you're sure he's healthy.

In order to move a player from your DL to your roster, you will have to drop a player to make room (or swap him with another player who has the DL tag but is on your bench).

When this comes up, feel free to ask me questions before you make moves.  Incidentally, if you make a mistake (like dropping someone you didn't mean to) I can fix it, although you need to tell me right away so it doesn't affect the league.
