OK, I need to start taking more ownership of my team. Anyone have any advice for a Fantasy noob? As it is, my team is just rolling on without anyone at te wheel.
Don't be afraid to bench starters if they are doing poorly or have a bad matchup, assuming you have someone on the bench who is hitting well and has a good matchup.
Make sure you have as many closers as you can get. If there aren't any available in the free agent pool, consider setup men who are getting a lot of K's with good ERA/WHIP that might become closers if the incumbent is hurt or fails.
Make sure you have 5 or 6 starters and you pitch them enough to keep on pace with innings. If you have 5 starters and you always have them active for their starts, you should keep up, but I like to have 6 which allows me to sit one every so often if they have a bad match up.
Btw, when I say it's ok to bench a hitter or pitcher, there are a few guys (studs) that I never sit no matter how bad they are going.
Keep up with injuries. Sit guys that are hurt. Use your DL slots to maximum advantage. Lineups are announced about an hour before game time and if you remember to check in (yahoo puts an "x" by guys that are not in the starting lineup), you can swap out for a bench guy who is playing if you do it before the game starts.
Make sure you keep on pace for games played. If your second base position is on pace for a -10 games, that's 10 games worth of runs, rbi, etc. that you are potentially missing out on.
Offer trades to make your team better. Ask people what they need and trade from your strength to make your weaknesses better. For example, I've got lots of good OF but I'm weak at 1B and 3B. Wanna trade? Use the yahoo software to send an email to the whole league, and post it here as well.
Check the free agents available. Don't be afraid to cut your worst batter or pitcher and take a chance on someone who is available.
Look at the standings and see where you can make up a lot of ground quickly. If you are 8th in runs but only 3 runs out of 3rd, you can get 5 points quickly by picking up a free agent who scores a ton of runs.
Finally, ask more questions...
"The NY Mets are my favorite squadron."
Yes, ignore everything I said and just listen to Apu :-P
I don't have any questions. *shrug*
So should I check on my team daily or weekly?
Definitely daily, especially since some guys are late scratches and you may want to subsititute them before the game begins. You might also have a guy get injured and you have him in for nothing when a healthy player could take his place.

by saying that, you have made us enemies. (as far as sports go)
It's just a line from the Simpsons.
oh, sorry. Its just that, as a Phillies fan, it is my sworn duty to hate the Mets.

Speaking of that, I like the overview page for being able to quickly see where I am and how big a points hit + or - I took.
However, short of adding and subtracting each category from the day before on the full standings page, is there a setting that shows where exactly it was that I took a hit each day? Want to see if I can spot any trends that may need to be addressed.
The only way I know to do it is to open up the live scoretracker at the end of the night.
But I would look at the full standings to see where you can make up ground quickly.
btw, I should mention that it is still a little to early to get hung up on how many points you can gain quickly. That is more of a mid to late season strategy. For now I tend to concentrate on stats that I can tell I might be weak in.
The biggest piece of advice is definitely to check in on your roster daily whenever possible, and make sure you don't fall off the pace on games started or innings pitched.
It's unfortunate when you pick someone up off the free agent list and they are optioned to the minors a few days later.
I'm looking at you, Anchorhead...

two things:
1. did you hear about the fan that ran onto the field and got tasered last night(05/03)?
2. Carlos Ruiz hit a home run, that, saved a man's life. I kid you not. Cole Hamels was on the mound tonight. He has been struggling for a while. Tonight, for the first time in a long time, he was good. Real good. He was in a zone. He was pitching so good, that was allowed to pitched the in the 9th inning of tonight's game(05/04) at Citizen's Bank Ballpark. Going into the 9th the Phillies were ahead 1-0. Guess what happens? Just as Hamels is winding up for his 1st pitch of the 9th, an idiot runs out on the field(for the 2nd night in a row) and delays the game. It took Cole Hamels right out the Zone he was in and he allowed the Cardinals to tie the game. Fortunately for that fan, Carlos Ruiz hit the game winning home run in the bottom of the 10th. If the Phillies had lost tonight's game, I don't want to think about what would have happened to that fan.
They should give the pitchers tasers, brah.
I heard on the radio this morning that when the guy went onto the field in the 9th inning last night, the fans were chanting "tazer!" ;)
Ok, let's have some trade talk. Who wants my players?
I wouldn't mind acquiring a slugger at some point.
Well, who do you like on my team? As I've mentioned I have plenty of OF depth (as well as pitching). My weak links are C, 1B, and 3B.

My rates are pretty reasonable.
Nice one.
