I'm tempted to get that one on hometheaterforum just to do this. With my luck, I'd be screwed when they decide to release it as I'm selling the laserdisc and I'm out $100.

I have it on my DVR at home but didn't pay attention to the AR on it as I had never seen it before and didn't realize it was originally 2.35:1. However, I'll try and take a look at it tonight and let you guys know if it's cropped or not. MONSTERS-HD is fairly good about showing things in their OAR if they possibly can.

let us know. i doubt they made a new transfer though. If they did, hell, even a non-anamorphic version would be better than the one from the laserdisc.

i'm also looking for a widescreen copy of this.
there's a guy in the usa selling then on ebay. but wants $20 total to post to me in england. i'm not fussed about a cover or disc art but if anyone has a copy they want to trade or sell cheap maybe i can help. let me know keveasyworld@yahoo.co.uk

i have lots of stuff like apocalpyse now 5 hour workprint, spinal tap 4 1/2 hour workprint, halloween 6 producers cut, halloween 8 workprint, superman 1 & 2 composite tv cuts plus making of docs, tales from the crypt all 93 episodes on 22 discs, speilberg's amblin, within the woods and loads of raimi/campbell short films, and some other stuff that i have on video only. i cant copy anything myself but i can probably get it done. just interested in building my collection up a bit and not spending too much..

Hey guys, this is another one that is currently available in a.b.hdtv on usenet. An OAR was capped and uploaded a couple days ago. It is 1080i, 1:85 to 1, and friggin' gorgeous! I will personally be doing a downconvert to dvd, so keep your digital eyes peeled

bongloads, while it would be nice to have a HDTV->DVD conversion, the problem is that 1.85:1 wasn't the OAR. It was 2.35:1.

But it's a hell of a lot better than the P&S VHS transfers available now.

Knock it all you want, but the fact of the matter is : YOU AREN"T GETTING ANYTHING BETTER.

We all know that LD xfers are ungodly soft and have terrible colour balance, so even if the LD fact sites are correct about it being a 2:35 originally - it matters none. You just can't compete with 14.25mbps/avg. video, period.

And being that the capture contains only one audio stream, no menu, and no extras, a dvd conversion will look simply spectacular. The entire capture will fit on a DL dvd with only ~8% bitrate degradation (given the proper encode). Scoff and whine all you want, but some of us who own anything nicer than a 1024x768 CRT and a 1960's-technology tube television will sit back and enjoy this classic in all it's HD glory. Is your hd/sdtv 2:35:1? I didn't think so

i'll be quite happy to watch this HD version. even if the OAR is still off, it's still better than P&S!
was it filmed in super 35? just wondering if this HD would open up more of the frame at the top and bottom (like James Cameron films)

I wasn't knocking it. I'd love to see this HD version. Was just saying the thing about the OAR in case you didn't know. Anyway, keep us aprised of any downconverted DVD you might release.

I have a proper 2.35:1 version of it already, thanks. I'll stick with the PROPER aspect ratio. And no, it's not Super 35.

And I have an HDTV...and an HD DVD player.

Let's knock off the childish comparisons of systems.

I downloaded a bit of this HDTV version, and did 3 screengrabs using VLC Media PLayer. However, i'm getting errors whenever I try and post the pics.
Any help would be appreciated. I plan on trying an HDTV to DL Dvd conversion myself.

Absolutely not. Toe-renting is the complete opposite of anonymous file sharing - you all should really reconsider your usage of it, particularly taking into account the recent legal actions taken against toe-rent networks and users. (I personally know a 16-year old girl and her family that are being prosecuted for toe-renting a single episode of a popular teevee show.)

I'm sure one of your comrades in the insecure file-sharing community will redistribute the data to the masses.
