OK, I ran the following script to determine if there's any residual combing: http://pastebin.com/YHgTv4DT

And the answer is...

.

.

.

NOPE!

I think we have a winner!

I just compared the frame-count of my IVTC'd HDTV cap to the NTSC DVD, starting from the first frame of the blinking cursor and ending with the last frame of Neo flying off.

There's a 3-frame difference!

I'm now hunting those frames down. (The HDTV has 3 less.)

Oh, I used DoubleWeave().Pulldown(0,2) and DoubleWeave().Pulldown(1,4). Yours covers it across the changes and glitch. Cool.

The frame I referred to before is combed though (vertically misaligned). 98785 after your trim and IVTC. Related, the frame before it is missing.

Weird! I'm not seeing it. Can you post a screenshot? Wait, I see it now.

I'm going to try to generate the missing frame using MFlowInter. I'll see what I can do about the combed frame.

Do you notice any other glitches?

Andrea, you've really done something great here. I'm not going to talk about the movie. I assume you've all watched it. But, Andrea, you've taken a screwed up BD master and taken it to its full potential. It's really such a big improvement and made me realize how terrible the commercial BD was. The colors are wonderful and a huge improvement. Your script has done a much better job than any general color correction would ever do. The colors look pretty dead on to both the DVD and my pre-release tape. The only issue though is the BD's contrast boosting. Frankly, they really pushed it to too much of an extreme: it gets far too shadowy at times and occasionally gives the colors a slightly different appearance. This effect is seem on most contrast-boosted transfers. It's unfortunate you're not working with an okay master like The Thing. The audio is good but I'm having problems playing the DTS.

Should you do a 2.0 version with the HDTV clips, I would look forward to it. Frankly, the HDTV is much better than I think it's given credit for. I made a custom BD of that myself with 1080p video and the 1999 DVD audio. Would that be something you're interested in, as a resource? I have no doubt though that people might be able to do 1080i base files more justice than I can.

That being said, anyone should really check this out. It's really good: heads and tails over the commercial BD.

Were the PCM tracks on the laserdisc a fold-down of the 5.1 track, or its own mix?

There's also a geometry problem with the HDTV cap. I'm working with You_Too to fix it.

The geometry issue has been resolved. The true resolution of this beast is 1783x1017. Here's a sample of it on top of the NTSC DVD with opacity down to 50%: http://i.imgur.com/aEBY8Vs.png

The horizontal aliasing is gone at that res? BTW we should probably be talking about this in the other thread instead of Andrea's.

DTS track merely would not play on my main player... strange. I played it in my PS3, and it was fine.

Are you using Photoshop to do this?  I always find this sort of thing really finicky and wonder if you have an easier method.

Bizarre, I burned the disc, but it won't start on the ps3. It plays otherwise fine in the computer.

Anyone knows a solution?

Weird. It plays in my PS3. How long has it been since you've updated? Mind you I don't know how long it's been since I've updated.

I haven't got it but did you burn the disc at UDF 2.50?

I just burned a bdmv folder in toast using the video folder.

Maybe I need to burn using the DVD-ROM UDF folder? But does it work with Blu-ray?

Author

Blu-ray also has a UDF mode. It probably would have been set to 1.00 by default but for AVCHD/BD discs, it can only work if its set to 2.50, so that might have been why it didn't work.

Is there a Mode settings in Toast?

I don't think so. Usually all DVDR plays fine. Perhaps I should convert the BD-25 into an iso and burn it with udf mode?

Guys, thanks to all for the appreciations and the constructive critics; thanks to AntcuFaalb and YouToo for discovering the real HDTV resolution; it's to be discovered if it's the same for mine (russian without closing credits), and if the HDTV frame is fixed in comparison to the blu-ray, or "floats" up and down (or maybe left and right) as it seemed to me in one of my previous post.

That HDTV version certainly has its problems, but I always choose it over the DVD and Blu-ray versions. The only thing that I find a bit annoying is the audio included sounds quieter than the DVD and Blu-ray.

As already discussed, I think it would be a great asset to use for any 2.0 version you may consider making.

Sorry I haven't had chance to check out your current version, my internet is bandwidth is pretty bad at the moment.

I need the help of all the ones that downloaded and actually watched "The Matrix [spoRv]"... I must find the residual shots with artifacts, and, as it seems I missed some of them because I use my TV as monitor, maybe I could not be able to spot them all.

So, please, write down the shots where there are some artifacts (start/end frame will be great, but min:sec will be OK too); then, I could start to replace them; meanwhile, I'm studying a better method for replace them - instead of upscaled DVD, even if many can't tell for sure where they are... I must reveal a secret: there are A LOT of upscaled DVD shots, a lot...

Version 2.0 is near... (^^,)

There are artifacts in the window frames of the helicopter in the shot where the agent becomes the pilot. I'll look through and see if I can find some of the others I spotted.
