Don't know the validity of this one but its popping up on many sites and everyone is talking...
ENJOY!

The author of the Matrix is a sister from New York City who had to
take the Wakowski Brothers from Chicago to court to get paid for her work. See the >>info below.

She won her case -- BIG TIME!!

Subject: Black Author wins The Matrix Copyright Infringement Case

This little known story has met a just conclusion, as Sophia Stewart,
African American author of The Matrix will finally receive her just
due >>from the copyright infringement of her original work!!!

Monday, October 4th 2004 ended a six-year dispute involving Sophia >>Stewart, the Wachowski Brothers, Joel Silver and Warner Brothers.

Stewart's allegations, involving copyright infringement and racketeering, were received and acknowledged by the Central District of California, Judge Margaret Morrow residing.

Stewart, a New Yorker who has resided in Salt Lake City for the past
five years, will recover damages from the films, The Matrix I, II and III,
as well as The Terminator and its sequels.

She will soon receive one of the biggest payoffs in the history of Hollywood, as the gross receipts of both films and their sequels total over 2.5 billion dollars.
Stewart filed her case in 1999, after viewing the Matrix, which she
felt had been based on her manuscript, "The Third Eye," copyrighted in 1981.
In the mid-eighties Stewart had submitted her manuscript to an ad
placed by the Wachowski Brothers, requesting new sci-fi works.

According to court documentation, an FBI investigation discovered that more than thirty minutes had been edited from the original film, in an attempt to avoid penalties for copyright infringement. The investigation also stated that "credible witnesses employed at Warner Brothers came forward, claiming that the executives and lawyers had full knowledge that the work in question did not belong to the Wachowski Brothers."

These witnesses claimed to have seen Stewart's original work and that it had been "often used during preparation of the motion pictures." The defendants tried, on several occasions, to have Stewart's case dismissed, without success.

Stewart has confronted skepticism on all sides, much of which comes
from Matrix fans, who are strangely loyal to the Wachowski Brothers. One on-line forum, entitled Matrix Explained has an entire section
devoted to Stewart. Some who have researched her history and writings are open to her story. Others are suspicious and mocking.

"It doesn't bother me," said Stewart in a phone interview last week, "I always knew what was true."

Some fans, are unaware of the case or they question its legitimacy,
due to the fact that it has received little to no media coverage. Though the case was not made public until October of 2003, Stewart has her own explanation, as quoted at aghettotymz.com:

"The reason you have not seen any of this in the media is because Warner Brothers parent company is AOL-Time Warner... this GIANT owns >95 percent of the media... let me give you a clue as to what they own in the media business... New York Times papers/magazines, LA Times papers/magazines;
People Magazine, CNN news, Extra, Celebrity Justice, Entertainment Tonight , HBO, New Line Cinema, Dreamworks, Newsweek, Village Roadshow... many, many more!... They are not going >>to report on themselves. They have been surpressing my case for years..."

Fans who have taken Stewart's allegations seriously, have found eerie mythological parallels, which seem significant in a case that revolves around the highly metaphorical and symbolic Matrix series. Sophia, the Greek goddess of wisdom has been referenced many times in speculation about Stewart. In one book about the Goddess Sophia, it reads, "The black goddess is the mistress of web creation spun in her divine matrix"

Although there have been outside implications as to racial injustice
(Stewart is African American), she does not feel that this is the
case. This is all about the Benjamins," said Stewart.

"It's not about money with me. It's about justice."

Stewart's future plans involve a record label, entitled Popsilk
Records, and a motion picture production company, All Eyez On Me, in reference to God. "I wrote The Third Eye to wake people up, to remind them why God put them here. There's more to life than money," said Stewart.

"My whole to the world is about God and good and about choice, about spirituality over 'technocracy."

If Stewart represents spirituality, then she truly has prevailed over
the technocracy" represented in both the Terminator and the Matrix, and now, ironically, by their supposed creators.

Stewart is currently having discussions with CBS about a possible
exclusive story and has several media engagements in the near future to nationally publicize her victory.

June 13th 2004. Sophia Stewart's press release read: "The Matrix &
Terminator movie franchises have made world history and have
ultimately changed the way people view movies and how Hollywood does business, yet the real truth about the creator and creation of these films continue to elude the masses because the hidden secret of the matter is that these films were created and written by a Black woman... a Black woman named Sophia Stewart.

But Hollywood does not want you to know this fact simply because it
would change history. Also it would encourage our Black children to realize a dream and that is... nothing is impossible for them to achieve!"
"Never. I'll never turn to the darkside. You've failed your highness. I am a jedi, like my father before me."

What a bunch of bull...
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

In a way, "The Matrix" was written by a woman. One of the Wachowski brothers became a woman, had a sex change.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

If they're plagiarized material then Sophia Stewart owns all revenue and income associated with them, and should sue for damages on top of that. She was robbed of credit, and of creative control - assuming that her allegations are true. There is nothing worse than plagiarism, and those responsible deserve to be put in gaol for at least 5 years.

Well, there's a seemingly finer line between plagiarism and 'inspiratation' these days. It's incredibly rare to find a work of literature/art/film/ect that doesn't bear at least some similarities to something previously created. I'm not saying the woman doesn't deserve her dues, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Rubbish. If I "take inspiration" from a book and directly convert that to film (with minor alterations) that is plagiarism. Apparently half an hour of material was cut out of the Matrix to lessen the similarities between it and The Third Eye.

I wasn't saying it's a good thing, just that it is more common these days, which it is. I can give you a multitude of examples.

Can this really be true? I mean you'd think someone would have picked the story up...

Why not Fox, or a Viacom network???

Here's the whole story...but look at the bottom...

CORRECTION REGARDING PREVIOUS STORY

In reference to the recent article entitled "Mother of the Matrix Victorious," some information has been deemed misleading. Ms. Sophia Stewart has not yet won her case against Joel Silver, Time Warner and the Wachowski Bros. The decision on October 4th enabled Ms. Stewart to proceed with her case, as all attempts to have it dismissed were unsuccessful. Ms. Stewart's case will proceed through the Central District Court of California

It says she's getting payment for the terminator movies as well, and all three matrix movies. I wonder...why didn't she sue after T2 did so well? And why would Time-Warner continue making the other two movies along the same lines, after a suit was filed in 99?

It's possible that they thought they were changing it sufficiently to be their own creation, so they went ahead. Maybe they thing they're in the right, genuinely. We'd have to read Stewart's works to be sure. It's possible it's true, but there's many things that don't make sense in there.

Fox is another studio! How could it be in a studio's best interest to run a story against a studio? A story that makes a fellow studio the bad guy?

She's not getting payment of anything yet, the trial begins later this year. The FBI were the ones to establish a link between the third eye and the terminator. Stewart was only interested in pursuing The Matrix - she hadn't seen the Terminator, however the FBI established a link and that is why the Terminator has been bought into it.

Doesn't just about any lawsuit these days? C'mon. A woman sued two teenaged girls in her neighborhood because they left cookies on her doorstep. But since they rang her doorbell at 10:30 at night, they gave her an anxiety attack and she sued. She won. Just medical costs and court fees. No punitive damages. But seriously, though.

Wouldn't fox love to see Warner Bros fall?

When it comes to copyrights they're on the same side. Fox, Sony, Warner - they all want one thing, to promote THEIR rights over the rights of consumers. If there's something that's going to make it look like the studios are the bad guys infringing on copyrights, then it isn't in the best interest of any studio to run that story.

But Fox could point fingers at Warner and say: LOOK HOW EVIL BOTH SETS OF W BROTHERS ARE!...

While promoting the un-plagerized Revenge of the Sith all the way to the Bank.

Thing you've got to remember is that Fox TV, although sharing the same parent company (News Corp.), is a separate entity. As such, while it may enjoy a preferred 'rate' on Fox properties, the synergy between it and its other corporate siblings is far less than you are attributing. Fox TV doesn't want to see Warner fall, because it also broadcasts several Warner-produced series; the same is true of The WB, UPN, CBS, ABC, and NBC/Universal. None of these companies wants to see the other fall, unless it's in the case of a merger.

I stand by what I said before; to quote Baby Herman, "This whole thing stinks like yesterday's diapers."

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Three things will happen if they do that: the public gets the idea that studios are mean and nasty ... two, the public think that Fox are bastards employing dirty anti-branding tactics against WB. And three the friendship between fox and warner is jeopardized.
