Thanks to the help of klokwerk and an MPEG2 plugin for Premiere (which I’m quite adept at), I’ve started doing this composite cut between the copy of the workprint I have and the open matte 4x3 transfer on the original DVD of the flick from 1997. Do I have a life? No. I got about the first 10mins done tonight. What has surprised me about the beginning is that during the bank scene, just about all the shots that wound up in the final film are the exact same cuts as the workprint. And the scene after it, in Dorian’s office, the cuts are a bit tighter than in the workprint. Quality of the workprint and jerky preview playback in Premiere might make this take longer than I had first anticipated, but it should fo fairly smoothly. I’ll post updates here as they become worth posting, but I just thought I’d give a heads up that I’m going ahead with this project.

I loved the Mask.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Did you read in the first post where I said I was doing this because I have no life? Well, I have a life now.

Is there any way I can score that workprint from you then?

Anybody looking to revive this project? The workprint is excellent but the quality just blows.

Funny this film is vastly inferior compared to the Dark Horse comic book.
