Yeah, unfortunately looks like they're going to go with another mindless army of enemies thing rather than one big baddie. From the looks of things, Tony (and possibly Bruce) creates Ultron by accident while attempting to further automate his suits (perhaps he's trying to give Iron Man up without letting The Avengers down or something), and Ultron replicates himself into an army.

Vision is indeed Bettany. Not sure how they'll introduce him (Ultron created him in the comics).

From what I've been able to glean from the scant info that's out there. I think it's a case where since SHIELD is now defunct Tony decides to step in and create an automated force to pick up the slack. With Ultron being a new AI he creates with the specific task of overseeing the project. Not sure how JARVIS ends up becoming Vision but I'm sure there'll be lots of tension between the two AI throughout the film.

The way I see it, either Ultron will create Vision in order to infiltrate The Avengers as he did in the comics, which would be cool because he'd be evil for awhile; or JARVIS won't trust Ultron from the beginning and Tony will continue with the project despite JARVIS' protests and so eventually JARVIS manifests himself as Vision in order to combat Ultron.

We're looking at Spiderman levels of new character creep here though, so everything has to be pretty simple. We've already got Hulk vs. Hulkbuster, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Ultron and Vision, plus seven or so other characters to continue to develop.

I thought I read he created the robots so none of the superheroes would need to superhero anymore.

Oh great.  Are we getting into this civil war style nonsense where the heroes all become unlikable jerks and Tony is trying to control every superhero on the planet?

You know that plan sounds a lot like the villain's plan from The Incredables.

If we are going down the same road modern comics have gone down with everyone being a jerk and too busy fighting each other to be heroes, count me out as a viewer of any future movies Marvel.  One of the things I love about the MCU is that it's not bogged down in all the problems modern comics are,I sure hope did doesn't go down that road.

How in the world did you get that from that?

He never said anything about Tony trying to corral his fellow heroes. Tony is an innovator, if he can save himself and his friends from having to do all the work to keep the world safe why not? (We know why not, but what does Tony know? =P)

I don't where you're getting all this infighting stuff from.

I am just saying I hope it is not heading down that road, not that I know for sure it is heading down that road.

Everything we know is speculation at this point so that is all I was doing, speculating.  I am still going to see the movie because I am pretty sure it will be good,I was just throwing an idea out there as it came to me and I wasn't really thinking in depth about it.

I wonder if Paul Bettany will play Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter.

This is an interesting idea. Tony creates an AI with the same personality and name as, say, his late father's butler? I like it. Seems like a Tony thing to do is be secretly sentimental.

According to the MCU comics, Jarvis is indeed based on his family butler.

Hah, that's great, I love it. I'd love love to see Bettany show up in Agent Carter as the original Jarvis.

So does Disney now have the rights to do an Howard the Duck film?

Author

Howard was always a Marvel character. I'm sure the film rights reverted back to them decades ago but if it hadn't the the acquisition of Lucasfilm pretty much assures they have them now.

...and they own the rights to Donald so as long as Daffy doesn't mind it should be all go?

Thanks to all of you who saw (and are seeing) Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend, from the bottom of my heart. The Guardians are a group of oddballs, outcasts, and geeks. The movie is for anyone who ever felt cast aside, left out, or different. It’s for all of us who don’t belong. This movie belongs to you. And, today, I think we’re doing okay.

I am of course happy with all the film has accomplished box-office-wise. But what touches me the most is that the film I told the folks at Marvel I wanted to make two years ago is the film that you’re seeing in theaters today – it’s that so many of you seem to be directly EXPERIENCING the film I INTENDED. The cast, the producers, the crew, and I felt like we were making something special while we were making it. But it is very rare that a director’s INTENTIONS in creating a film, or a scene, or a character, or a line of dialogue are, seemingly, specifically what is experienced by an audience (not to mention critics!), and that seems to be what has happened here. You have allowed a talking raccoon – for a moment, a minute, or a day – to make you a little more human. And for that, I am profoundly grateful.

If I relied on myself to implement these intentions, the film would be a shambling mess. But instead, I had a wonderful cast, genius producers, an incredibly brave studio, sublimely talented visual effects artists, great editors, and the best damn crew of mostly-British bastards to actually implement these intentions for me. Where I had a good idea they would, through alchemy, transform it into a great one. Many of you involved are friends of mine on Facebook. Many of you will read this somewhere else. I love you all.

You may remember me posting here a couple weeks ago how sad I was to be finishing up the film, that I was having trouble letting go of Rocket, and that I was going to miss him. But seeing him (and Groot, and the rest of the team) embraced by the world like they have been, to be UNDERSTOOD, makes it a wonderful letting go. It’s like giving a foster pet up for adoption to the most wonderful parents in the world.

And, of course, I’m not really saying goodbye as, while many of you have been enjoying the film, I’ve spent this weekend hard at work on the sequel. I couldn’t help myself! The results are nice but it’s really the creative process I love and that keeps me going. I’m on fire with this thing! The Guardians have so many hardships and heartaches and triumphs ahead of them, and I can’t wait to share them with all of you.

Onto week two…

Love, James

Here's a nice interview with Hayley Atwell about her upcoming series Agent Carter.

“My favorite part is something the audiences haven’t seen yet. It’s the development of her character throughout the series which will be someone who is kind of more three-dimensional, something that women can relate to, as not just the competent, strong, intelligent woman in this workforce, but the psychological, emotional cost. What it takes for a woman to have to sacrifice personal relationships in order to find her place in the world and to fulfill her kind of destiny.”

Gardens of the Galaxy(Spoiler free)

You know a few days ago I was talking to someone about the fact that one of the things I miss about films from the 30s and 40s was that they wouldn't waste time. I liked how films like Stagecoach would just drop you into the world of the movie and trust you to figure out what was going on,they would set up characters and situations with a little as one line of dialog or a look and go from there and yet it would set up so well you would follow every bit and still care about the character. I miss that style of film making because you could get a lot more story told in a lot shorter of a time. Of course for that to work the film goer has to keep their attention fixed on the screen the whole time so in this age of cellphones and stuff it's no wonder that style of film making is dead, still I miss it.  Well This movie is a return to that style.  To be clear this is the first film in the MCU were I know nothing about the characters or the comic it is based on and yet I never once felt lost. This movie is the best paced film I have seen in years and it doesn't come at the expense of the characters and every scene feels like it serves a purpose in telling a story.  It's the first film I have seen in a long time where I felt every second of screen time was needed. As I said it reminds me of Stagecoach one of the best paced movies of all time. Also like the work of John Ford it takes time from it's well paced story to have a sense of wonder about it's setting and let you soak in just how aw inspiring it is.

It is also the first movie of the MCU that I would recommend to people who are sick of comic book movies because it is not a superhero movie in any way. It's a fast paced, fun, bright Sci-Fi adventure. It has a sense of pure fun and excitement that was missing in the latest entries in both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises. In fact it does a better job taking it's hero from being s selfish jerk who only cares about number one to being a hero who i believe can inspire people then either of the last two Star Trek movies. You know if WB were still going to make a Mass Effect movie I would want the writer/director of this film behind it because I think he could do something with the concept and it wouldn't feel like it drags.  This film brings a rag tag team together quickly and gives all of the characters a moment so that towards the end I had a tear in my eye,and it does it in two hours.  The action scenes are fun and creative and flow naturally from one to another and are there to help tell the story and don't feel like they hang around too long.  The movie is expertly crafted from start to finish and if you like Sci-Fi or Star Wars then I can't think of a reason you wouldn't enjoy this film. It's the only film in the MCU that I would recommend to people who don't like superhero movies.  Marvel took a big gamble with this film and it paid off big time, this is the best film in the MCU if you ask me.
