Still maybe  we will get lucky,I mean Johnathan Frakes directed Shades of Gray but he also did First Contact so maybe it will work out.

Do you think he'll come back to direct the 49th sequel?

I'm really sorry I know I should have gotten that but I am so tired right now I have no idea what you are talking about:)

Oh right.  Yeah i really should have gotten that. To tell you the truth I am barely aware of that book and couldn't tell you what it was about if you put a gun to my head.  I know more about Ashens' book Fifty Thousand Shades of Gray.

Still I really should have picked up on that:)

Another Director Passes on Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’

For Marvel movie fans looking years ahead, past next summer’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron and into Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where even more new heroes and properties will be introduced, today’s news saw another director join the studio. Essentially confirming that the long-rumored Doctor Strange movie will be hitting theaters in 2016-17, horror film writer and director Scott Derrickson (Sinister) has been confirmed to take charge of the Master of the Mystic Arts for Marvel.

It’s great to see Marvel Studios opening another facet of the comics universe and introducing magic through Stephen Vincent Strange (who was namedropped in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), but what about the solo character film that was supposed to begin shooting this week? Ant-Man is without a director ever since Edgar Wright, who made the project a reality for Marvel and worked on it for eight years, left at the last minute after the studio took the script away from him and co-writer Joe Cornish and turned it into something that didn’t mesh with his vision.

Whether or not the latest draft is good or bad for the standalone story or the bigger picture plans of the franchise, it’s something Edgar Wright wasn’t interested in making. Of the directors reportedly shortlisted to replace him, the job isn’t attractive enough either, evidently, because none of them are going to take it. What happens now?

Its start date has been moved to July, giving Marvel Studios and whoever helms the feature just enough time (hopefully) to get the film out next July without compromising the final product. Marvel looked towards directors with proven comedy backgrounds as potential replacements, with names Adam McKay (Anchorman 1 & 2, The Other Guys), Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, We’re the Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) making the shortlist.

McKay was deep into talks to take the gig but has since passed. As for Fleischer, he might be helming Ghostbusters 3 and reportedly isn't interested in jumping into an immediate major shoot since he and his wife just had a child. That leaves Thurber who The Wrap reported was the new frontrunner, but This is Infamous was quick to report that he turned down the offer as well. AICN reports he wasn’t offered the gig though so it may have just been at the meeting stage.

I wonder if they should just let Ghostbusters 3 die. I'm totally sour on such a thing with Harold Ramis gone. No Egon, no sale. I doubt they'd even get Bill Murray to come back.

We are so damned lucky we're getting the original gang back for Star Wars.

Where were you in '77?

If Sigourney Weaver had agreed to return for the video game it would have been the perfect end to a Ghostbusters trilogy. Minus Moranis of course. =(

Well you think it would be nearby seeing as it's the same galaxy.

Nice poster though.

Awesome poster. I didn't think I could be anymore excited about this movie and now I am.

I think this is going to do really well because just like in the 90s when we watched 'Stargate', 'Starship Troopers' and 'Independence Day', we were wanting some Star Wars-esque thrills before the real Star Wars. Hopefully in the case of the ST, it won't turn out to be less than it's immitators.

Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ Series Casts Vincent D’Onofrio as The Kingpin

Daredevil, the first of Marvel Studios and Netflix’s upcoming TV series about superheroes based in Hell’s Kitchen (which shall culminate in a Defenders crossover mini-series), is slated to begin production on location in New York next month, which explains the recent influx of updates on The Man Without Fear’s live-action small screen debut.

First came the news that Steven S. DeKnight (Smallville, Spartacus) has taken over show-runner duties from Cabin in the Woods co-writer/director Drew Goddard (whose penned the first two episode of the Daredevil series) – and thereafter, Marvel announced that Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) has been cast as blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day, masked vigilante Daredevil by night. (Or maybe by day occasionally – being Daredevil isn’t exclusively a graveyard shift job.)

Everyone superhero needs an antagonist – and easily, the most famous of Daredevil’s is that of Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, who was previously brought to life onscreen in a memorable turn from the late Michael Clarke Duncan. Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that, in the upcoming Daredevil Netflix series, Fisk will be portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio – who, by the sound of it, will be playing a mostly traditional version of the Kingpin – described as “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen” brings him into conflict with Murdock – and his costumed alter ego.

Here is an official statement from Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb:

We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role. Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.

okay, serious question -

How long do you guys think the MCU can sustain itself with the way things are headed?

Marvel seems to be hemorrhaging directors these days.

I'm sure it can sustain itself for quite awhile, but I predict ten years from now thing will be fading and people will look back and say that from Avengers to Avengers 2 was really the peak and it was all downhill from there.

I'm optimistic for the future. Hollywood seems to have finally hit on the magic-formula for making genre flicks of this nature, after decades of getting it wrong. Here's how I see it in 5 easy steps...

1. Get good writers.

2. Get good directors.

3. Get good actors.

4. Don't sh*t on the fanbase and if possible get them on your side by staying true to the source.

5. (The most important rule) Don't make it sh*t (and/or cheap).

Rule five would seem obvious but I was reminded the other day by a random screening of 1994's 'Street Fighter', that not so long ago Hollywood hadn't dicovered any of these 5 rules to cult-fandom box-office gold.

I'm sure there are plenty of talented directors wanting to make enormous epic films (and paychecks) who are willing to work in the constraints Marvel gives them.

Good call on a topic dude :-)

Cage - Big Daddy / Ghost Rider (/ Himself)

Taylor-Johnson - Kick-Ass / Quicksilver

Page - Boltie / Kitty Pryde

Reynolds - Deadpool / Green Lantern

Kitsch - John Carter / Gambit

(Oh and you forgot Affleck has played Superman too... kinda)

It's not simply a matter of getting good people. They've gotten good people in the past and turned them away.

And there are other things to consider -

At this point the story of Iron Man is pretty much told. Where do you go from there? - Can the Avengers series carry on without Tony Stark or will they keep jamming him awkwardly into other films ala Nick Fury?

if they keep branching out with new characters then things will probably be fine but I'm not sure how things will pan out if they keep forcing an Avengers 'reunion' every few years.

4. Don't sh*t on the fanbase and if possible get them on your side by staying true to the source.

I guess we saw an example of this with the Mandarin. Although I am fairly certain that a lot of the people complaining had never heard of the character before.

I actually liked what they did there with Trevor Slattery.

In a recent interview I saw with Kevin Feige he was extolling the fact that in the comics the roster for the Avengers was always changing.

So it seems like they're planning to keep the movie roster fresh as well.
