Arguably, he already killed millions if not billions of people before getting the stones. Gamora’s home planet for example. This is no Would you kill baby Hitler? conundrum.

Not just that but he and his army were literally in the process of trying to kill the heroes and destroy the Earth (and he does the exact same snap as the previous Thanos, only unsuccessfully because he didn’t realize there were no stones).

That said, considering you can do apparently anything with all the stones, it is odd that Tony chose to the same sort of snap decimation that Thanos did.

I think Tony was little too pissed to think of turning them all into sperm whales and bowls of Petunias. 😉

Has anyone else been following Wandavision?

The last two episodes have been fastastic, especially the end of the latest episode!

Yes, I’ve been really enjoying it! I like how it began with a cheery sitcom vibe to cover up something sinister going on, and that it was glossed over less and less in each episode. Now, I love the cross-cutting between S.W.O.R.D. scenes and the sitcom. I appreciate how subtly the sitcom aspect is unravelling - for example in episode 5, the jokes in Vision’s workplace are about 80s technology, clearly a script written with the benefit of hindsight.

SPOILERS for episode 5:

I have never seen the X-men films, so Evan Peters’ appearance didn’t do much for me - I was kinda hoping for Aaron Taylor Johnson, actually. I also feel out of my depth when it comes to the influence of the comics, which I’ve never read (neither of these things are criticisms of the show obviously!) I’ve had a great time experiencing the show as it has progressed, with all the twists and turns, and from what I can glean from wise comic experts, I believe the explanation that Wanda is solely responsible for Westview is misleading. ‘Agnes’ and a certain character called Mephisto might be in on it too…

I’ve followed all of 20th Century Fox Marvel films from the beginning. The reveal of the X-Men Quicksilver was absolutely mind blowing. The coming Multiverse is going to be epic.

I’m really loving Wandavision…probably some of my favourite Marvel content so far! I like how they decided to do something really different, but still have it make sense in the broader MCU. I almost wish the strong sitcom feel had lasted longer though, before things started unravelling. But I guess they would lose too many viewers that way.

WandaVision is easily my favorite MCU thing outside of GotG1 and Ragnarok. Unlike most people, I actually wish the show would take its time more and keep focusing on the meta sitcom stuff, rather than what’s going on outside the literal bubble. That being said, considering that there are only 9 episodes in total, I understand why the show needed to start moving a little faster, after the first few episodes.

Great episode last night! PREDICTION: Episode 8 will be a flashback to how this all started and will be called “Behind the Scenes” or “The Making of WandaVision” or something to that effect

SPOILERS ahead:

I felt like there wasn’t really enough of an explanation of how Wanda got such crazy powers. They seem to come from nowhere…her grief maybe. I don’t know how the comics handle it, but I feel like something was missing on that score.

Other than that though, it was amazing! And the after credits scene… Just when I thought it couldn’t get crazier.

My interpretation is that she was born with powers and that the more trauma she goes through, the more powerful she becomes.

Oh, I could see that. I guess they might reveal more later.

Also, one other nitpick I have is that Latin spells are always kind of cringey…it’s such boring Latin too. Nothing happens when I say stuff like “It is changed into a bird” in Latin.

Well done!

Elizabeth Olsen deserves an award for her acting in WV. It’s given her the chance to show incredible range! Paul Bettany and Kathryn Hahn have been great too (I don’t know what it was about episode 8, but I really noticed how well they do subtle changes in their faces and voices). And then, there’s the costume design: designer Mayes C Rubeo has risen to the challenge of covering different time periods and genres and that deserves to be recognised at an awards ceremony too.

SPOILERS:

I can’t believe we might be seeing Wanda fight the dead corpse of the man she loves reincarnated as a billion dollar killing machine. She’s not in the best mental state for that right now.

This show is nuts, in a very good way.

I agree. I’m tired of Latin spells.

WandaVision is amazing. Deceptively deep. I think a few Emmys are in order.

I just wish it were more confident in itself.

I’m not a huge fan of how they had to take an entire third of the show out to hit us over the head with Outside The Hex exposition from [lame] characters spouting faux-science at computer monitors. It’s just relatively uninteresting. Monica Rambeau and her team are the typical weak, generic blockbuster stuff that I could do without.

We should have stayed exclusively with the sitcom stuff and slowly discovered what was off through Vision. How it all came to be didn’t even have to be as convoluted or fleshed out as it ended up being, especially when the important parts of it are really just Wanda’s emotions and psyche.

I commend that they even did something like this in the first place, but those ambitions are held back by trying to cater to all attention spans. This could have been really good, and not just mildly interesting.

I agree that the sitcom stuff is more interesting than the SWORD stuff and should’ve remained as the main focus of the show.

Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed every episode, but I do feel like the sitcom stuff ended too quickly. I think they know their audience–most people don’t like the sitcom style nearly as much as the rest–but they unravelled the mystery a bit too fast, I think.

Although I liked the sitcom stuff, I think it went on long enough. I also think Monica, Darca and Jimmy are a very endearing and lovable trio, and with Hayward as the easily dislikable villain in that aspect, I’ve enjoyed all the SWORD stuff even more, to be honest.

The beauty of the sitcom stuff though is that it was primed to be different every week! I feel like we were robbed of some of the more proper parroting of the 70’s, 80/90’s, 00’s, and 10’s because it had to share the runtimes with a completely different, less interesting show. Two thirds of the stuff they do on the SWORD side is just recap what’s happening on the other side, which just feels patronizing. But then it also mitigates itself by being chock full of fake science mumbo-jumbo they don’t expect anyone to make sense of anyway. Not to mention they’re just staring at monitors half the time.

It leaves the “real” stuff - Wanda’s grief, how she’s running from it - feeling secondary to the generic Good vs Evil sci-fi blockbuster. The first two episodes teased a very different trajectory than that - a more personal story wrapped in an unsettling mystery. It’s not that I dislike Monica, Darcy, and Jimmy - but their plot literally takes away from that show.

And now we’re all set up for some good old Marvel superhero beat downs in the finale - which is fine - but far from what I had hoped the show could have been.

Final theories before the finale airs:

I think that blonde chick Dottie is really Arcana Jones (another witch from the comics). I think “Ralph” doesn’t really exist and was just a red herring. I think Evan Peters is really the X-men quicksilver (I don’t think they’d tease us by having him NOT really be him). I don’t think the aerospace engineer Monica talked about will be anyone special. I think vision and the kids will both survive. Lastly, I think the person in witness protection that Jimmy Woo was talking about is Dick Van Dyke (and this is the cameo Paul Bettany was talking about).
