  • new characters are not developed properly, basically they’re not developed at all. I think they made a huge mistake that they didn’t do solo movies for Spiderman and Black Panther before this movie.

Everyone knows Spider-man and his origins. He really doesn’t need another origin story. I thought Black Panther was handled expertly. Everyone I know going in were indifferent to the character but by the time the movie was over they were instant fans and wanted more of him.

  • Spiderman. Not sure how anybody can like him. I am a huge fan of the character and the Raimi movies, and I hated Spiderman in this movie. He was almost as annoying as Jar Jar Binks. You are watching something which should be an emotional battle between close friends and the tone gets suddenly interrupted by Spiderman acting nervous, clumsy, or throwing some funny one liners. For the first (and maybe second) time it was quite funny, but as he kept on continuing I was seriously like “Shut the f up!”

Spider-man and Ant-man were much needed brevity to lighten up this otherwise very down and dour story. If it wasn’t for the flashes of levity we’d probably have another BvS on our hands.

  • Captain America was portrait as a complete asshole in this movie. I liked him in the previous movies, Chris Evans has portrayed the most charismatic superhero since Chris Reeves’s Superman, but in this movie he basically abandons all his friends, and his government to basically help a serial killer who used to be his friend decades ago. The real Captain America as developed in the previous movies would try to arrest him and trust the system. The new captain just fights his friends without any good reason. Even in the trailer Tony says with an confused voice “So was I …” when Cap says “He’s my friend”.

Captain America has seen just how flawed “the system” is throughout these movies. First the World Security Council ordered the nuking of New York City which almost cost the life of Iron Man to stop. Then SHIELD decided to develop a weapon system to wipe out would be terrorists before they could act. Followed by the revelation that SHIELD and a lot of the government had been infiltrated at the top levels by HYDRA. The system is corrupt.

Also, Bucky wasn’t just some friend of Captain America. Bucky was Steve Rogers best friend. He’d always been there for him when they were growing up, he was there for him when both of his parents died. They’re both dedicated to protecting the other “to the end of the line.” Don’t forget that throughout this film the UN had a strict kill order on him.

  • the villain. Oh yes, there’s a villain in this movie. Why? I don’t know. He’s the most pointless villain I have ever seen in a movie (ANY movie, not just MCU movies), this is the first time when I think that cutting out the villain out of the movie would actually improve the movie.

Zemo was a brilliant villain. All throughout the film he was a master manipulator pulling the strings that would tear the Avengers apart. He was an interesting departure from the verbose charismatic villain from your typical super hero film and far better than Lex Luthor ever was.

Spiderman from the Raimi movies is a different person than the Spiderman from the Amazing Spiderman movies, who is a different character from the MCU, who is a different character than the Spiderman from the 60’s show, who is a different character than … So no, we don’t know his backstory and it’s weird that Tony Stark suddenly visits a teenager who we never seen before and asks him to help him.

Black Panther - before seeing the trailer I didn’t even know such a superhero exists. After seeing the movie I know he exists and he’s from some fake African country. I know nothing about him as a person and nothing about him as a superhero.

Bucky - you didn’t understand what I was trying to say. Sure, they were friends. What I was trying to say is that in my opinion Steve Rogers had no real reason to chose a guy who is a known mass murderer over people who he knows are actually good, it goes strictly against the character which was shown in the previous movies.

Just to be sure - I have never read any of the comic books, I am judging the characters only from what I’ve seen in the previous MCU movies.

I’m pretty sure in every single one of those Spider-Man gets bit by a spider, his uncle dies and he takes on the mantle of Spider-Man.

and it’s weird that Tony Stark suddenly visits a teenager who we never seen before and asks him to help him.

It was acutually a really awesome character dynamic where Tony kind of was like a father figure in that moment. and it was funny when he showed up.

Black Panther - before seeing the trailer I didn’t even know such a superhero exists. After seeing the movie I know he exists and he’s from some fake African country. I know nothing about him as a person and nothing about him as a superhero.

They let you understand him as a person and they even give him an arc in the movie where he lets go of his hate. I didn’t have any background with Black Panther and I thought he was one of the coolest characters in the film.

Your forgetting that he didn’t choose a mass murderer over others. He chose his best friend. Bucky didn’t actually do it, his mind was manipulated and Steve still cares and sympathizes with Bucky because be knows how mentally abused Bucky has been. It’s actually a very nuanced and understandable relationship.

Just to be sure - I have never read any of the comic books, I am judging the characters only from what I’ve seen in the previous MCU movies.

Same here.

I’m going to re-watch Civil War soon with a clearer head. I had things going on the day I saw it that I was looking forward to, so that may have changed my perspective of the film.

I think it would be better to have standalone Black Panther and Spiderman movies beforehand.

Black Widow and Hawkeye in the first Avengers were also off, and they were also the only ones without movies.

You need to show us the characters first before making a crossover dammit!

I was afraid of this, but it ended up not being a problem for me. The characters were developed well in a very small amount of time.

Hawkeye didn’t need an origin story, he’s just an average soldier that uses a bow instead of a gun.

Black Widow could have used an origin story though.

Boy is bitten by spider, takes crime head on.

Man is latest in long line of vibranium-enhanced super heroes from an isolationist African nation.

I’m more interested in where they are going than where they came from.

I haven’t even seen Civil War and I agree. I became a fan of Spidey before I knew anything about his origin; I’m certain I can get by without another iteration of it in the movies.

So many great things in the last Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

When you get lines like,

“What in the knievel?!”

“Swayze Daisy”

“Rasta-Hulk is your husband?!”

it really makes me glad I’ve stuck with this programme. The twist of Spoiler not really spoilering which resulted in Spoiler versus Spoiler at the end was brilliant. Very impressed with the entire series but these past few episodes have been such fun. I liked the little links to Civil War too.

One thing about the MCU in general though - will the Avengers ever find out Coulson’s alive? It’s been four years and he’s not really been keeping a low profile!

Wasn’t there an episode where he asked that agent from How I Met Your Mother that she never tells Tony Stark he’s allive?

Over the last two days, I re-watched the MCU films in order, from “Iron Man” up to and including “Thor:The Dark World”. Most of my opinions remain the same on these movies except that this time around I enjoyed “Iron Man II” and “THOR: The Dark World” a bit more. Also, I disliked the second half of “Iron Man III” even more then I had and just turned it off after Tony first meets Trevor.

A sad day in TV Land…

It’s the end of the road for TV’s Peggy Carter.

ABC has canceled Marvel drama Agent Carter after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The second of Marvel’s ABC dramas, while a critical favorite, was never a ratings breakthrough. The Hayley Atwell starrer earned a surprise second season renewal and returned as a “gap” show under former ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee.

After weeks of conflicting reports, leaving fans to wonder what would become of Marvel’s Most Wanted, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off set to star Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood), the network has apparently passed on the series.

“We’re very proud of all the hard work, from Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski’s writing and producing to the incredible cast, especially the supremely talented Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, who we adore,” Loeb tells EW in a statement.

So the effects of the over-saturation have begun. I very much hope Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood will return to “Agents of Shield”.

So - they end Carter with that really dumb cliffhanger? I hate it when they do that. They could at least give them a TV movie or something to close all open subplots.

And the second show got cancelled even before they started to shoot it? I don’t really care that much, I wasn’t a fan of blond Xena and that Englishman - I’m not joking, I can’t even remember their names.

But maybe that’s a good thing, and Marvel will try their best to do the only TV show they have left as good as possible instead of “OK”.

BTW why are their Netflix shows so much better? Is it because of the lack of ABC censorship?

I’m a huge fan of anything MCU related but I honestly wasn’t terribly excited about the new series (even though Blonde Xena and the Englishman were two of my faves!) I hope they fold them back into AOS somehow because I’d like to see more of them. If they don’t, well at least the characters had a “proper” send off.

Gutted to hear Peggy’s been cancelled. Gutted. I really hope they give at the very least another One Shot to tie things together somehow.

Bloody Friday the 13th, pfft!

I loved Carter, but I saw the cancellation a mile away. Shame it seems we may never actually see the founding of S.H.I.E.L.D.

They could easily do something with Peggy abd the founding of shield on Netflix or something.

I could see Agents of SHIELD do a “flashback” episode all about the founding of SHIELD with Peggy Carter and Howard Stark. Tie everything together and provide an actual ending to the Agent Carter series in the process.
