Really no growth at all? You watched a completely different movie.Oh and I stand by my statement that these movies have just as much focus on the characters as the star wars movies.

I think here is the difference between us and why I can't explain these things to you. You go into these movies looking for something to hate so you can go online and tell everyone they are idiots for liking these movies.  I go in looking to have a good time. that doesn't mean I turn my brain off but it also doesn't mean that I go in with a chip on my shoulder.  yes Tony was unlikable and yes Thor had a lesson to learn. In story telling that is called an arc. if you think character growth should never happen and every character should be 100% perfect and not undergo any growth or changes then Yeah I guess these movies are not for you. Also if you need someone to pretend to be human and bumble around a hospital to see their humanity then I feel sorry for you. Thor's alter ego wasn't needed for the story to work so they didn't ad a half hour of screen time to the movie for it. You also seem to have personal hatred of some of the actors so ago I can't help you with your personal grudges.  Oh and I have yet to read any tie in novels or any comics and I saw growth.  Oh and history isn't self contained, everything that has ever happens leads to the next thing that happens,so now stories are evolving to reflect that. Each movie does tell it's own story but there are links to other stories, that doesn't make it bad story telling. Henry V mentions events and characters that happened in Henry IV parts one and two, does that mean Shakespeare was a hack. I have watched these movies with people who haven't seen the other ones and they are able to follow them just fine. Why just today I saw CATWS with someone who hadn't seen CA and he had no trouble following anything that was going on it the movie.

Look we are never going to agree so why don't you just ignore these movies since you were never going to like them in the first place? why watch something you don't want to watch?

I just got back from CATWS and all I can say is wow. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but if you are an inbred moron who needs to be shot to keep his or her genes out of the gene pool and you like these movies like me then these movie is just an unbelievable game changer.  It was the most intense and personal of the movies so far and I can't wait to see what happens in this universe next. I really hope we get a Nick Furry movie because after the way this movie ended I really want to see a whole movie that is about him on his own. oh and I now can not wait for Tuesdays episode of AOS. In short I am enjoying the heck out of the marvel cinematic universe and if that makes me an inbred idiot who can't find his own backside with both hands a flashlight and a map well then I guess you can call me one but I am what I am and I can't be anything else. So I guess you should just avoid me because I am too stupid to live and I will not pretend to hate something I enjoy just to look smarter.

Maybe that was a little too combative. I do have a tendency to take things a little too personally sometimes and if that was too combative or rude I would just like to say I am sorry.

Still I think the stories have found the exact right balance for summer popcorn fare and I really enjoyed CATWS and I am not sorry I did.

That is all sorry if it got too involved or personal.

I believe the last time I watched "The First Avenger" I compared it to Star Wars: simple movie, good vs evil, good wins. I loved it. "Winter Soldier" is like Empire, but not just for Cap, for the whole franchise. I love how its tied into MAoS and can't wait to see what happens next.

Bingo, I think you mentioned something about the Fantastic Four reboot. Unfortunately they're rebooting it to take place in the existing X-Men Cinematic Universe (X-Verse?). So we'll still have at least 3 movie continuities, Spider-Verse, X-Verse, and MCU, with versions of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch somehow being in both the X-Verse and MCU. That won't confuse the average viewers like my dad AT ALL.

Yeah this how I watched CA and I loved every minute. I think my favorite bit was the part where he was selling war bonds on the stage, that scene was just a lot of fun to watch and the song was catchy.

I wish Marvel could get a hold of the rights to Spiderman and the Fantastic Four and but them in the MCU,because I would love to see what they would do with them there.

Still you can't have everything.

Oh and you are right TWS was a bit like Empire,it's the dark game changer and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

Yes this is going to get confusing for casual viewers, with two different versions of the same character out there. Hopefully it will not hurt the MCU.

The issue with getting X-Men, Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, etc back is that I cannot tell you how many complaints I see about "Why doesn't Avenger call other Avenger to help?". If there were EVEN MORE heroes in the area, the excuses as to why they couldn't help gets even more thin. Especially if you get into X-Men territory. They wouldn't even need to call people on the phone, they could just think really hard and Xavier would hear it and send Wolverine to stab people.

Yeah I left the XMen off my list for that reason.  Since there are only four of them I can buy the Fantastic Four being busy and with Spiderman he is a kid so I can see why the government wouldn't call him to help, but once you get into the Xmen with their hundreds of members it makes no sense. Also I am not sure they would fit into a world where super powered heroes are looked up to,so I say leave them out of the MCU for those reasons.

They're going to have to deal with it eventually anyway. Recently Feige stated that the team lineup will change over time. Which means Ant-man will definitely be joining the team eventually. I also think it leaves the door open for killing off heroes, leaving an out for the actors who have expressed a desire to leave the franchise. Because can you really picture anyone else playing Iron Man or Captain America?

Yeah I really can't and I would rather see them retire.  I hope they don't kill off Cap because after all he has been through getting killed off would just feel too depressing,I would rather see him retire to a normal life or something like that.

I am all for bringing in new members and keeping the team going. it should help to keep things fresh and it will be interesting seeing how they interact. It can be done I mean just look at Doctor Who.  Marvel has so many characters I would rather see the team change up and new characters given a shot then see parts recast and the universe rebooted. I think I have had it with comic book movie reboots for the moment. I would rather see it go on with other characters.

I really hope you are right about Antman because while he was never one that I followed in the comics he was an important member of the Avengers and I am really looking forward to his movie. I think it would be great to get him on the team.

I can't believe that boxed set didn't include the two-disc versions of the first two Iron Man movies. What the hell kind of an ultimate edition is that? The price on those damn individual releases hasn't going down either. Disney sure know that even with the physical media market on its knees, they'll still sell.

Still cant believe Cap wasmt receptive to Widow in WS. I find it difficult t believe that any heterosexual male could resist Scarlett Johansson :D.

Anyway, fucking Joss Whedon gets to live his dream and have the best job in the world. God I need to solve my existential crisis and fix my life.

Well first of all I didn't think Black Widow was hitting on him,for half the movie he didn't trust her and the other half they seemed more like friends then anything else.

I also think that Cap is still getting his head around the fact that so many years have passed,so he just isn't ready to move on. it's been over 70 years for everyone else but it has only been a year or so for him. I don't think in this movie he had yet reached the point where he was ready to move on from his girlfriend(I can't believe I am blanking on her name right now,but that is what happens when you sleep for a bout two hours in three days)from the 1940s. Remember he was a very shy guy and I think part of him still is and she was the first woman he had a real relationship with so i think part of his arc in this movie was getting to the point where he could move on and that wasn't going to happen with BW. Part of the problem was that his job makes it easy for him to hide from his personal problems and getting together with someone in the same line of work wouldn't fix that,if anything it would make the problem worse. Also didn't Avengers kind of hint that BW and HE were kind of an item? To someone of Cap's generation getting together with BW would kind of be like stealing a team member's girl and I can't see him doing that.

So for those reasons it really didn't bother me that he didn't get together with BW.

So Marvel has commissioned a series of posters to go along with each of the remaining episodes of the season. This is the first of them and I'm really digging it:

It's a crime that we still don't get theatrical posters of this quality. The collective marketing department of Hollywood needs to get canned.

Oh and don't forget tonight is the big two hour special!

Yeah I miss the days of really great movie posters that were not just photos of a couple of actors.  That looks great. it is becoming a menu on my next home made Bluray.

ABC did some posters like this for Castle last year.  How come Tv shows are getting these great posters but movies with millions of dollars in their add budgets get cheap crud?

I definitely recommend checking out the documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster. It's on Netflix. The stories that filmmakers tell about the resistance they get from the studios to using good posters is nuts.

So the two hour special was...kind of a bust. In that the first half was just a rerun of last week's episode. The new episode was great though! So glad they stuck to their guns with Ward.

Yeah this week's episode was great,I am not sure why they reran last week's episode.

I think this episode was the perfect follow up to TWS,that movie ended with Shield dead and I was wondering how they would go on but Culson's speech brought it back to life. Seeing Oswald in anything is always fun too.

I am glad they didn't have this become an episode where Ward was just under mind control or under cover. he really is a full blown bad guy and in Bill Paxton I think Marvel has found a villain who in his own way is just as good as Tom Hiddleston is in the movies.  The wait for next week's episode is killing me already.  I am on the edge of my seat.

Truth be told, I don't enjoy the MCU. There's far too much style, not nearly enough substance.

I'd much rather watch superhero movies that are smaller in scale, with more emphasis placed on character development, than ones with big explosions, CG monsters, and megalomaniacal villains trying to take over the world.

I think they got the focus just right, these are supposed to be adventure stories for kids after all so the focus should be on the adventure.

A story can have adventure without sacrificing/deemphasizing characterization and without the entire city/nation/world/etc. having to be at risk.

Each movie has had enough moments to make me care about the characters and the setting so I don't really have a problem.

The thing is is that if a superhero movie just doesn't click for me, I'm not going to give any of its sequels a chance. I need satisfactory characterization right off the bat, otherwise that's all she'll write.

I mean people have complained that the Spiderman and XMen series had too many shots of heroes crying so you have to find a balance and I think they did.

From the MCU movies I've seen, I've seen no balance whatsoever. If anything, they just sit on the opposite end of the spectrum from the movies you mentioned.

 Agreed.

Having seen a few Marvel movie duds I've grown a strong disliking for any movie that has to do with Marvel. Couldn't care less.

Yeah the reason Marvel started it's own studio was because they were sick of the major studios messing up their characters.

Still I have to say I am shocked that the people behind One more Day and Civil War haven't screwed things up just as badly in their own way.

They were X-men, Spider-Man 1 & 3, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Ironman and Hulk. Didn't say anything about Marvel studios, just anything that has to do with Marvel. I'm just getting sick of superhero films in general. The first two Nolan's Batman films were great but they've lost some of their edge with each rewatching. I'm hoping that this superhero trend passes on in maybe 10-15 years.

See, Marvel only did one of those and I'm betting you mean the Eric Bana Hulk. Ugh, that was a disaster.

The newer Hulk with Edward Norton was pretty decent. What I'd recommend though is giving The Winter Soldier a try. They're trying to diversify their films and that one happens to be a political thriller. A good one too.

I'm not (I lived through tooooo many years of my childhood where comic book movies sucked balls to not be glad of this purple patch this decade is in) but I do worry that the market is becoming over saturated and many are gonna feel the wy you feel soon.

e.g. Before my screening of 'Winter Soldier' there were three trailers only... X-Men:DOFP, Spiderman2(5) and GOTG. All Marvel-Universe films, all back-to-back, which felt like a bit of a strange experience. Luckily I think Marvel know they need to shake things up a bit. IronMan3 was all out comedy, Winter Soldier was political and GOTG looks to be going for a wacky Star Wars-esque vibe. They are also talking about having more female centered films, maybe a TV show set in the past and Dr Strange. I hope they also do some darker stuff too (R-Rated/18Certifate material maybe) like 'Dredd'. Keep diversifying in tone and content and they should be okay.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Yeah i really hope Dr.Strange happens in some form.  I would love to see how that would shake up the universe.  Oh and I have never read the comics but I can't wait for GOTG after seeing that trailer.

I wish they would too, just saw The Amazing Spider-man 2 and it wasn't so amazing, I have to say it was probably worse than the first one.

The movie was a cringe-fest

Sky is re-running the Sam Raimi films (which I enjoyed, apart from 3 at the time), and they now are not that great, I think its the winning formula of how these movies should be made by Marvel studios thats effecting my judgement.

Yeah I didn't really care for TAS. I wanted to like it but it was just trying way too hard to be Spiderman Begins.  Also Peter went out of his way to show way too many people he was Spiderman,I have to wonder what the point of the mask even is.  I mean everyone who goes to his school must know he is Spiderman.

I can still watch the first two Rami movies because I think he got the tone right, they were set in a cheesy world so i can over look the things that didn't make perfect sense. You lose that once you go the BB route and make everything serous, set it in the real world, and add so much brooding.  Now you can go to far the other way too and you end up with Spiderman 3 and Batman and Robin. I have no problem with people liking the new Spiderman movies but the first one was not my cup of tea and I don't plan on seeing the second one any time soon.  I may rent it at some point but I don't think I will go out of my way to see it.

Good night!  Well thank him for me because now there is no chance.  if a 14 year old didn't like it there is no way they are getting my $12.  I'll save it for Godzilla. Now there is a movie I am looking forward to.
