The New Republic EP1: A Vergence in the Force 4K (The Mandalorian Season 1 Edit) [V4 RELEASED] — Page 5

I personally prefer the fanedits of Rogue One and Solo that include the intro and crawl. It’s unique to Star Wars films and immediately puts the viewer into that universe. Plus, who doesn’t like a little dopamine rush from the nostalgia of seeing that yellow text scroll up the screen?

FWIW, I’d recommend the Rogue One style opening. ALTAIAGFFA card, then cut to an opening shot. I don’t imagine backstory or exposition via text would be any more useful for a movie adaptation than it was(n’t) for the original show.

This is the thinking I had too, you just summed it up much more succinctly. Even with the way it’s edited currently, I don’t think a crawl actually adds anything that can’t be picked up almost immediately through context as the story unfolds. It’s actually more engrossing that way.

(FWIW I don’t know that the most recent cut that makes the crawl “necessary” is itself, necessary. I think the previous version of the edit with all that stuff intact worked better)

Also, on a technical level: The title treatment with the Mandalorian logo as the meat in the Star Wars sandwich looks very off, and the font/text of the crawl itself isn’t right

@Smudger, i think this solution worked So well in your TCW fanedits because the logo looked much more “Star Wars” (we basically received the same kind of logo in RO).

The Mandalorian one here seems a Little bit off to me.

In my opinion, the Best solution would be using a classic SW logo as in the movies, omit the Episode, and, since u dont want “the Mandalorian” in the title, Just use the title you came up with. It Will look like a classic SW movie. I have no idea how its done, but since you already did EVII version of opening crawl, I imagine it would be easy to Just remove Episode VII and leave it as an independent SW film.

Cant wait to See what you ll come up with 😉 Your TCW Episode I is still my head Canon version (and the only watchable one Id Say) of the 2008 TCW movie.

I hope smudger stays true to its original path, and stays with the crawl!
Just like DigModification did with his RO-Edit.

Why can’t we just have two versions, one with the crawl and one without? That way everyone is happy.

Including the “Episode 7” crawl variation, it would round out to three versions in total.

This sounds like a great idea. I haven’t watched the show, so if I watch this edit, I can let you know what I think.

Wow. It would be great to get the perspective of someone who hasn’t seen the show. I would still recommend watching the show because there is a lot of cool stuff that I haven’t been able to include.

I’ll make sure to come back here periodically to find out when this edit comes out. I think this is a great thing being done here – a Reader’s Digest version of a much talked-about television series that is edited and structured into a single theatrical film experience. And yea, I understand that a lot of things will have to be cut.

As for myself not having watched the show, there are a couple of factors:

  1. I don’t have Disney+ 😃 (yes, I know there are ways around this)
  2. Lack of free time to commit myself to episodic series. I much prefer to devote my free time to watching movies–you can watch a movie once and you are done with it. And I still have an entire backlog of half-watched TV shows that I need to catch up with.

I know, but he’s already planning to include an “Episode 7” version for sequel haters, so I don’t see why one extra version would be a problem.

But if I was on a desert island and I could only have one version, I would probably prefer an opening crawl. The first half of the first episode has been cut in this version, so it’s the only way the plot could make sense without all that exposition.

Some of that exposition could be added back to when Dyn is bringing back The Child, seeing as in the series he was revisiting locations. Might be messy though. A lot of that early exposition is unnecessary, as it’s repeated later.

The first (successful) mission being lost might be required to add back in to show that he’s a good bounty hunter (since his mission to retrieve the Child is full of failures and I believe the Tattooine adventure was cut). That would be the only thing I could think of to add back in if the crawl was cut.

You can’t put the Mytherol capture scene in without including the first Nevarro trip.

I’ve put the Trandoshan scene back in so Dyn does come across as a decent bounty hunter. In the first act he successfully captures the child, shoots IG and sees off 2 Trandoshans. He then retrieves the child from the Client.
His only “failures” are being beaten by the mudhorn and being understandably pinned down by virtually the entire bounty hunter guild.

Completion draws ever nearer. All changes required to start the film on Arvala have now been completed. I just need to fine tune a few things in the final act and it’s good to go. It should be completed by the end of next week, just in time for me to do a couple a full viewings on holiday and then start rendering.

One urge I Keep having is to turn Arvala into Tattooine. It can be done really easily, but I guess Arvala is just a little too muddy!

Woooow, thats a great idea!

I feel Tattooine has been done to death in the ever shrinking SW galaxy. It’s refreshing with a new location.

Just my opinion of course

No, please don’t! The Star Wars universe has shrunk too much already, and without the Jawa scene there’s no association with Tatooine that would cause it to make sense.
