Star Wars: The Lost Jedi (TFA+TLJ 2 in 1)

This edit is aiming to be the first TFA+TLJ 2 in 1. The Force Awakens portion will be using a edited version of TFA restructured. I’m aiming to remove 90% of the comedy and trim as much fat as possible. estimated time of TFA is looking at just around 2 hours cutting about 15 minuets. Now instead of the film ending on Luke’s island we roll right into the last Jedi. We will stay for a good chunk of lukes island then cut to the beginning of the last Jedi with a heavily edited version of the evacuation from the planet. The last Jedi portion will be focusing heavily on luke, rey, and Kylo. It will be similar to the fallen knight edit but with more changes and trims here and there. Running time for the last Jedi portion is around 1hr 30min. Total running time about 3 and a half hours. Will have some test clips soon and a full cut list. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

I’ll add that I think you can cut The Force Awakens down by almost entirely cutting out the stop at Maz Kanata’s castle.

How would you go about doing that?

If you were making Starkiller Base the climax off your two-parter like some have mentioned in the TLJ Ideas thread, you can cut from Han and Chewie boarding the Falcon, to the arrrival on D’qar. Finn and Rey are never seen on screen together on D’qar, so you’d need some clever editing.

Reminiscent in runtime of an epic, with trimmed versions of both stories, sounds great! Looking forward to this.

Thanks! I was aiming for an “epic” run time. Something long but no longer then 3 and a half hours. I won’t know for sure until I get a rough draft. Right now I’m having to color correct Luke’s island in TFA to match TLJ. TLJ is more yellow/dimmer then TFA

That would be due to the very limited filming time they were granted on Skellig Michael - it was overcast on the day JJ shot for TFA, but sunny on the day RJ shot for TLJ. Might be tough to match those.

It’s not going to be perfect but I’m going try to make it look as close as possible.

Yeah I made a mistake with last Jedi as well with the export. I’m re ripping last Jedi now. I accidentally exported the test clip at 30 FPS.

In the clip I posted I just used the Jedi steps soundtrack as I re arranged some of the scenes/reaction shots. Next I’m going to try and make TFA look as close as I can to TLJ

Consider editing in a shot of the saber falling (maybe from another film?). Also, the silence of Rey following him would work better than the voiceover, the music tells the story fine.

Thanks! I can probably use the wide shot that is above the island in TLJ that shows rey walking up then cut to the shot of luke taking it

also if you can’t tell I modified the tfa scene by removing some shots. I’ve muted the audio and just used the Jedi steps score.

Wow, that’s pretty damn good! God, I wish we somehow had a shot of the saber falling at Luke’s feet…

I can help build in some sound effects and help with the audio but we might differ in the specifics of how we handle it. Cause personally I want to somehow fit in the music that happens when Luke accepts the saber in the original cut of TLJ. It’s quite good and lines up well.

For me I don’t mind if the music doesn’t line up perfectly, it doesn’t take away from it to much. Personally once this edit is done it will be my “Episode 7” I’m planning on making a new crawl with The Lost Jedi title. I’ve been thinking of doing some re scoring as well. If it would be possible to get battle of the heroes to play during the throne room fight in TLJ would be awesome, as well as getting dual of the fates during the forest battle of TFA.

I’m just not the best at the soundtrack part. Since Star Wars movies never have a clear center channel
