My English is sometimes just to bad. I will try to explain: the picture of the avi looks like frames are missing, especially when there are scenes with lots of movement, it looks like stop and go. As I said before, I tried to watch on 3 players and had the same problem all teh time so I think it is in the movie and not just my PC. Of course I know the problem, it is connected with encoding and re-encoding adn turning mpeg to divx and xvid and changing framerates. Our first version of CREASY (man on fire fanedit) was taken from the divx avi as source and it looked far worse than your edit in being stop and go. The jerkiness I meant was an unclean picture especially in scenes with strong contrast.

players I used:
media player classic 6.4.9.0
Nero showtime
Cyberlink Power DVD 6

and just to verify vlc 8.1

That is strange -- I did not notice that at all. Can other people who've seen it comment on this, please?

I just finished watching it and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was well edited and flowed really well. I also liked the use of the map overlays, although there were a couple of occasions when I don't really think it was that necessary. I think the pacing of the film is great, condsidering the amount of content that is missing, there weren't any bits that made me feel that a large portion of story had been missed.

I do think that the main title should be changed from the red writing, so that it just reads "special abridged edition" in white. I also think that the end credits would benefit from having the cast members that weren't in your cut simply edited out instead of the "missing" stamp. I feel that the red just stands out too much from the look and tone of the film.

Also the skipping on the Divx version is really noticable. I was aware of it throughout the entire film, and the missing frames make some of the CGI look like stop-frame animation. I hope your DVD version of the film doesn't suffer from this, it would be a shame for a good edit like this.

Are you planning to up the DVD version as a torrent?
Author

Maybe I'll do that tonight.

I just uploaded a torrent for the DVD-5 image (in Nero NRG format) to Pirate Bay.

I don't know why BitComet is not uploading anything. Something seems to be blocking uploads from my computer or something.

Try to switch the client if nothing else works.

I don't think it's the client, because it usually works fine.

well, all I see is 30 people and zero upload. I would try out everything to get this to work. The crowd is hungry.

I would, except that I don't really have time at the moment.

Well, I'll try restarting my computer for starters.

It seems I'm having trouble connecting to the tracker -- this happens both with BitComet and the official client so I think something's blocking me on the college network...

I'm sorry... hope the AVI will do for now... I should have better luck with the torrent when I'm home for the summer. Also, I'll make a high quality DL version (from original DVD sources) over the summer, so if you can wait for a month or two, you'll have a better copy then...

I'd love to wait for an hq version!!!
How about also adding menu, chapters, DVD cover then? Take your time and produce something really great.

Actually the current DVD version does include a main menu and chapter menus.

So... it seems I'm not the only one on campus that's been experiencing problems with BitTorrent recently... either the college is blocking BitTorrent or something's just wrong with the network for the time being... =(

It looks like my torrent upload is picking up speed (though still far below what it could be). Most peers have got about 33% of the file already, so you should have it in a couple more days.

Well... now that my DVD upload has finished for many of you, I'll be waiting for comments... like I said earlier, I'm planning to make a better quality version of this over the summer... I currently plan to just change the original sources (using DVD sources instead) and not the edit itself, but I might consider making changes if I have some constructive feedback... so... =)

Sharpness of picture is good, sound is good, BUT the flickering movements and the stop and go make this unwatchable for me. sorry. I really hope for a better quality edit.

You're really picky aren't you? I mean, a bit of flicker is definitely there but to say that it's "unwatchable" is a little extreme -- to be honest, I don't even notice it that much when I watch it on my computer (I've never played it on any other computer nor on an actual DVD player so I don't know how it looks elsewhere).

But comments on the EDIT itself (instead of nitpicking on the quality of the video) would be much appreciated.

I am really sorry and I did not mean to upset you in any way. I was disappointed because I was looking so forward to your edit and then had to realize that it is no fun for me to watch it (as I said before, I am defiently no quality fanatic, take a look at a CBB edit and you will no what I mean, I can live with compromise quite well). I will no longer mention the motion problems. I really did like the color additions you made, the movie has a totally different feel to it, when there is just more colour. I also liked the way you presented the opening and end credits. Since i only watched the beginning of the movie I cannot say much about the development of the story. but when Frodo found the ring and Gandalf puts it in the envelope and then throws the envelope right ahead into the fire as if he knew from the start what the ring was about, there was some plot missing inbetween(IMHO). Anyway, keep up the great work and whenever there is a good quality version available, keep me informed, I would love to watch it.

Oh no you have nothing to be sorry about. I do realize that the quality is nowhere near something that could ostensibly be released to the public, but I didn't think it was distracting to the viewing experience. After all, I made the edit for myself to enjoy, and I distributed it only to family and friends. But now that my edit is out there, I'm glad to receive criticism because it will ensure that my future releases (of both this and future edits I make) will be better. I just hope that some of you nitpickers there will point out any problems with the edit.

By having Gandalf throw the envelope straight into the fire, I am changing the plot so that as soon as Gandalf reaches down for the Ring in the previous scene and sees the eye of Sauron (I guess it's up for debate whether he actually saw it), he suspects the nature of the Ring, and the "fire test" just confirms it. (After all, his journey to Minas Tirith didn't really tell him anything significant other than the history of the Ring, which he could have already known.)

Oh, and I didn't actually make any color adjustments to the whole movie, just to certain (very few) scenes where I had to change the timing (day to night, etc.). You may be thinking about someone else's "book cut", where (s)he actually did make color adjustments throughout the movies (I think).
