 Glad you said that. For all my disdain for teal being blanketed all over everything, truth is, one of my favorite action sequences of all time is covered in teal. And I'm talking about the tunnel chase from The Terminator. Whether it's an old VHS tape or the current blu, that entire sequence is completely teal and I have no problem with it.

It's a mess, they screwed the pooch.

I am going to be seeing Terminator 2 presented in 35mm on June 20. Is there anyone that needs me to pay attention to color detail in any particular scenes?

 I would just be curious if any of those pics I posted from the 8mm look the same as the 35mm (more greens, purples and teal). Or if the 35mm is closer to the BD. Thanks kaosjm

 You bet. This is one my all time favorites so I'll be paying very close attention to detail and report back.

I saw it in 35 mm last september and I can confirm you, PDB, that the 8 mm pics are a lot more closer to the 35 mm than the Blu-ray or any DVD prior to it. I will see it again on June 30th, but don't know yet if it will be in 35 mm or DCP.

Yeah there's a T1/T2 double in Glasgow on the 28th, need to see if they're 35mm

Supposedly the new Lionsgate May 19 re-release while not a remaster has the best picture quality of all releases of the existing master including the French Hd-dvd and Japan Premium V1.0 and V2.0. There is no visible Dnr or EE and the new encode supposedly brings out more detail compared to all above.

 Kinda, but not really.

There is so little between that ant the UK optimum disc, but at least that does not have the vertical stretch 

Yeah, I forgot I read about the vertical stretch, but from what I've seen of the screenshots the vertical stretch is not that noticeable. I,ll reserve judgement until I actually see the disc for myself.

I'll be seeing this tomorrow in original 35mm. Is there anything anyone wants me to pay close attention to as far as sound or color timing? I'll have a notepad to take notes throughout the film.

Main thing I think is to see how accurate those pics PDB posted on the first page are. Teal skies? Purple on those indoor shots?

Also, are the blues and oranges from the current home video versions as strong?

Just wanna repeat that I saw this on 35mm like 5-7 years ago and the blue blanket (for the night scenes) that we're all familiar with was there.

On the 35mm print I saw last september, there was almost no orange at all. It was pretty much all yellow.

Maybe two different interpositives, or two different print runs? I know I've also heard that LPP and Fuji have different tendencies to them (Fuji is supposedly more purple? I've seen some SW SE film cells that look purplish...)

And I know how I talk about how prints I'd seen of 80s/90s films had more teal, not just pure blue, and fire and explosions and stuff looked yellow instead of orange (Beber's various descriptions of 35mm screenings of 80s/90s films match with the kind of stuff I've seen), but I also saw a print of John Carpenter's The Thing that had blue blues without much teal at all, and a good bit of orange in all the fire we see in the film. (Yes, it was likely a repertory print struck much later, but still, these repertory prints always seem to be fully timed, or struck from an earlier-generation element that does have the theatrical timing.)

Also, I've seen film cells on eBay UK of various films that say AGFA-Gevaert, not Eastman LPP. Maybe Eastman, Fuji and/or Agfa prints of films during a theatrical run looked somewhat different from one another?

The film had a noticeable teal tint to it throughout. I took some notes to compare to the home format editions so I will do some viewings and report back.

So the copy you saw did have that orange? Interesting. Not the one I saw last september. I will see it again on June the 30th in another theater(along with the 1st Terminator and the new one, Genisys). It's unclear whether it will be in 35mm or DCP.

Thanks for the write up kaosjm. Between you and beber I think we can now say that T2's colors on video have been wrong. When there is a new scan and the colors are different from the way it has been on video all these years, we have to remember this thread. That or get a 35mm print and scan it.

kaosj, you say that the 8mm frames on post 17 look the same as the screening you went to. Was the purple really that exagerated? I mean on the shot where Arnold fires his shotgun and the one of the T-1000 on the ground.

Yes, that looks pretty spot on to me. The film was pretty dark in general with teal overlayed. I will pop in some of the first T2 DVDs to see if they reflect the 35mm print at all. I have PIBF-1001 and also the R1 Image DVD to reference and I remember checking out some scenes a while back and they looked very "not remastered" if that makes any sense. While the remastered discs do look great I would much prefer the look of the original 35mm. There is something very old school about it that adds to the effect of the whole experience.

Here are some more notes on the movie. I wrote them down in the dark so please excuse my writing.

Notes: When the biker tells Arnold he can't let him leave with the man's wheels he fires his shotgun beforehand and the bass was super loud. I hadn't noticed it being that loud before. Also, when Arnold opens the doors to the mall and is holding the flowers the sound of the doors opening also had very deep bass that I hadn't noticed before. A small detail for such loud bass but it was definitely there. When Arnold first walks in to the bar I noticed during the first few frames you see his front that you could just barely see the shorts he was wearing. It happened very quickly. In the hospital scenes with Sarah there was plenty of teal to be seen. When John and Miles take the endoskeleton arm from Cyberdyne there is a lot of purple tone throughout.

The audio definitely seemed like it was stereo and not surround sound. The dialogue and music seemed very quiet in comparison to the sound effects.
