The Last Jedi: Re-edited

I re-edited The Last Jedi because I felt that there was a lot of fluff and incoherent subplots that did not help the film stand out. In my edit, I simply removed this fluff. I also added a couple deleted scenes, rearranged scenes and re-edited a scene or two for new context that hopefully helps the story show itself a bit better. Here are the changes I made:

1. “A Long Time Ago” text is darker blue, like the original films.
2. Poe/Hux gag is reduced to more serious tone.
3. Hux’s reaction to Poe is removed.
4. Hux/Snoke gag is removed.
5. NEW SEQUENCE OF SCENES: Resistance goes into hyper-space, Hux/Snoke scene removed, Rey hands the lightsaber to Luke (lifted from TFA), Finn wakes up (falling out of bed gag is removed) and asks about Rey, we cut to Rey knocking on Luke’s door (“Where’s Han?” scene). The Force Awakens version of the lightsaber scene is much more powerful and dramatic. My plan is to edit TFA without the cliffhanger scene, as Star Wars has never really had a cliffhanger like that. I may end the film on Rey shooting into hyperspace on the Falcon. TBD…
6. The transition between “Where’s Han” and the Snoke/Kylo scene remains intact. The scene plays out and we cut back to Rey and Luke. When he walks off, he no longer goes fishing and milking… I have removed that scene. Instead, I have put in the deleted scene where he mourns Han in his hut. Although, I did not include the Leia section. We then cut to Luke exiting his hut and walking with Rey.
7. Luke and Rey’s dialogue plays out. We then see Leia sitting in hyperspace. Instead of cutting to Leia reprimanding Poe, we cut to Finn first. That first interaction is removed.
8. Leia’s ship does not get hit. She does not get injured in this cut. Kylo’s choice to not kill her is the focus of this version.
9. Chewbacca peacefully prepares to eat. The Porgs are cut out of that scene.
10. Leia is no longer mentioned in Holdo’s scene. We cut straight to her speech. Poe and Holdo’s dialogue is removed. Their entire mutiny subplot is removed from the film.
11. Finn and Rose meeting is not in this cut of the film. She is introduced when they pitch their plan to Poe.
12. Maz Kanata no longer makes the sexual comment about the code-breaker.
13. Luke teasing Rey in her first lesson is removed.
14. Poe being sneaky with Holdo scene removed. Finn and Rose leave with no issues.
15. Canto Bight is trimmed. No precursor scene about the Fathiers.
16. Caretakers bit is removed from Rey’s second lesson.
17. NEW EDIT: Deleted scene is added where Rey goes to rescue the caretakers. However, in my cut, right before she strikes the fence of the village with her lightsaber, she falls into the cave below. I have moved her mirror scene to this part of the film, molding these two scenes together for a more dramatic effect. This scene was originally later in the film.
18. Canto Bight is dramatically trimmed down. The children are cut from the Fathier scene, as well as the absurd animal abuse parts of the scene. The chase is much shorter.
19. Rey/Kylo connection scene is trimmed. The joke about Kylo being topless is removed.
20. NEW EDIT: Instead of cutting to the mirror scene that I used earlier, we cut to Luke having his vision about Leia. However, in his vision he does not see Leia in a coma (subplot removed). He instead sees the planet of Crait. This is foreshadowing for the third act. He is sensing the future and his death. We then cut to Rey/Kylo talking in the hut, only to be interrupted by Luke.
21. Rey leaves Ach-to. Luke’s interaction with Yoda and the tree is moved to later in the film (right before the battle of Crait).
22. Poe/Holdo scene is removed.
23. Mutiny scene is removed.
24. Ironing gag is removed. I also added the deleted segment of Finn, Rose and DJ getting nervous in the elevator before they go on their mission. This makes it feel more like an exciting heist and builds suspense.
25. Finn vs Phasma is trimmed. BB-8 is removed from the scene.
26. Snoke’s dead face is removed from Hux/Kylo scene.
27. Yoda/Luke scene is trimmed. Yoda no longer says “Page-turners they were not. Read them did you?” Luke should have read those texts.
28. We cut straight to Leia staring down the First Order.
29. Hux repeating Kylo is removed.
30. Luke being blasted by the walkers is removed.
31. Kylo throwing Hux is removed.
32. Poe/Finn scene is rearranged.
33. Rey walking up to the rocks is removed.
34. Kylo/Luke scene is continuous.
35. Luke’s death is now the final scene.
36. Children are removed from the ending. They are not in this cut of the film.
37. The final shots of the film are the wide of everyone talking onboard and the Falcon in hyperspace.
