It’s not the movies fault that you missed an important detail.

I missed it cause it isn’t there.

Uhh, what?

the important detail(s) explaining what Luke was doing and whatnot. It wasn’t there.

It was clearly shown that he did not interact with the salt.

EDIT: Not sure about the image policy, so I’ll just put them in quotes and pretend that it makes a difference.

Maybe some people are super duper observant, but that’s a detail which I doubt many people noticed. And frankly, it isn’t an important detail. It was a nice touch but that’s it.

I’m really hoping they don’t kill Leia off. I want at least one of the big three to just be able to retire happily rather than dying for the cause. We’ve already had two die for the cause. I want Leia to have stepped back with her head held high, convinced she’s paid her dues for the cause, and ready to leave everything in the capable hands of the next generation. Then I want her to retire to the Star Wars equivalent of Risa and spend her remaining years being tended to by a hunky cabana boy.

They could easily say all of that in dialogue. =P

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Let it play out as a conversation between Chewie and 3PO, that let’s us use our imagination a bit more and a few suggestive growls could mean “hunky cabana boy.”

That is not clearly explained in movie, and why was he “going to die anyway”?

sorry not buying it.

This is not clearly explained in the movie either.

Not good enough, I was confused by the whole thing and I sure I’m not the only one.

There were no real lightsaber fights.

Sorry, Warb, but I’m gonna have to disagree with you on all of these. Well, I don’t disagree that there are no real lightsaber fights. I freely admit that. But I loved the fact that there wasn’t. I’m so sick of the formula of them. Luke’s non-fight with Kylo was better and more impressive than any actual fight could have been.

As for the rest, I dunno, it made perfect sense to me. You mentioned something about your viewing experience, but I don’t know what thread it’s in. Maybe it distracted you. But all the visions between Kylo and Rey made it very obvious (maybe too obvious?) to me what was going on the MOMENT Luke appeared on Krayt. I guessed immediately that he was just a vision too, especially given how different he looked. But I thought that whole idea was fantastic, that Luke completely demoralized the First Order without resorting to any measure of violence. He simply outsmarted them. That was probably my favorite part of the whole movie and made The Force feel truly mystical to me for, really, the first time since the original film.

I agree, but it is there. Regardless, it doesn’t matter, because it doesn’t need an explanation in the first place.

Well, it’s one of those things you don’t want the audience to know for sure before it happens; otherwise, all the tension has just been removed. If Luke had said beforehand, “I’m just a vision,” or he walked through a wall or something, then, blammo, the whole sequence is ruined! You need to be on the edge of your seat, wondering how Luke survived the barrage of AT-AT fire, or if Kylo really did just strike him down. As I said in my previous post, I wonder if it already WAS too obvious since I guessed it immediately. But while I had correctly guessed, I wasn’t committed to it. I wasn’t sure if I was right. Therefore, I was totally in the moment when all of those things happened, and I was genuinely scared when both of those attacks happened. And then when I realized I had been right, which is exactly when the movie wanted me to know I was right, it was very satisfying.

I missed the reason Luke died on my first watch too, but it was pretty apparent on my second viewing.

I did clock that Luke wasn’t really there on Crait due to the shorter, less gray hair and beard, and the Graflex lightsaber (which we’d just seen destroyed in Snoke’s throne room). Then during the duel, he and Kylo never made physical contact at all, which sealed it for me.

If Finn and Rose were able to fly off to the casino and come back with a hacker, was there any reason why someone else couldn’t have flown off to pick up a fuel tanker or something?

One of Many Many Many plot holes.

Such a ship is probably well guarded and requires more than two people to pilot. And you think the First Order is going to just sit there and watch the Resistance refuel?

You are you telling me the resistance has no refueling ships anywhere they can reach out to? I would also be assuming refueling would be done while flying (much like it can be done here on earth) so the FO would be able to do as much about the refueling ship as they were able to do to the other ships.

Why? Some of the clues were there - the lack of salt moving, and the fact the Luke avoids Kylo, but does not actually interact with him in the fight. I actually thought they were showing how light and elegant Luke fought compared to how heavy and clumsy Kylo fought, but once I saw Luke was projecting I saw that the clues were there.

BUT>>>>

The movie also showed that projections can be interacted with - the dice were held by others if I recall.

Also, Snoke can Force Choke from across the Galaxy - why not Luke?

Speaking of Porkins, one Star Wars trope I’m really tired of: fat rebel pilot gets blown up.

Seeing how the resistance lost so many people in TLJ, I have a difficult time believing that she’d just step back.

It’s a theme of the new trilogy! When the going gets tough, the tough give up!

Due to the tragic loss of a family friend recently, I was unable to see TLJ until a couple of days ago. So I’ve been avoiding this thread for quite a while now until I saw the movie for myself, and will try to catch up when I can - as I’m curious to see what everyone else thought of it all.

But there’s one particular opinion I always look forward to seeing after these movies nowadays, and he didn’t disappoint me.

…so just for the sake of anyone who hasn’t seen these yet -

Kylo’s thoughts on the TLJ trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK6BesOrfws

Kylo reacts to the TLJ movie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCvxX0keJ08

(and what do I think? - well, let’s just say I’ve got yet another extensive cutlist to contemplate at this point) 😉

Nobody answered their distress call. Who was going to refuel them? Robot Chicken notwithstanding, we’ve never seen a gas station in Star Wars.

Nice catch. Luke was clearly falling to the Dark Side even then. 😉
