I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
I for one think the only hole that needs patching in TLJ is Holdo. There is a clearly ADR dialog spoken when she says “I’ve dealt with plenty of trigger happy flyboys like you.”
The idea would be to replace that with something like “But there could be a First Order informant on board.”
So the whole thing would go as follows: “Of course you do. I understand. But there could be a First Order informant on board. You’re impulsive, dangerous, and the last thing we need right now. So stick to your post, and follow your orders.”
Changing that line so extensively would probably clash with the rest of the scene, though.
“I just want to know what’s going on.”
“Of course you do. I understand. But what I want is a captain I can trust. You’re impulsive…dangerous…and the last thing we need right now.”This keeps the suggestion that there may be those among the crew that are less than trustworty, while focusing the conversation on the real sticking point between these two characters. It’s important that we don’t make Holdo so transparent in her reasoning that we think Poe is the unreasonable one…there still needs to be a communication breakdown between them.
I was on an experimenting mood and tried this out: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CWGPfT4agOt8APKajHcE9Nw4qljB0xGt/view?usp=sharing
Hal, I watched this edit for the first time last night and just wanted to thank you for your hard work.
I think it’s a good edit, and overall subtly improves the film. If this had been the theatrical release I believe older fans would have liked it a little more (and it would have cost Disney a lot less to make - that extended Fathier stampede must have cost an absolute $$$ fortune to shoot, and your edit proves it really wasn’t needed at all!).
Even with the shortened run time The Last Jedi still rather overstays its welcome - and by the time we get to Crait you feel audience fatigue settling in. It doesn’t help that the exciting Throne Room sequence is the movie’s dramatic highlight, and everything after that feels a bit of an epilogue.
But well done, you’ve done what can be done with the material, and if I do revisit TLJ again in the future this will be the cut I watch.
Ahoy! Could I get a link to this? Hoping to watch on 5/5. Thanks :- )
