Honestly, i’m less worried by his fixes than everything else.

As someone else said his videos are getting more and more clickbaity, he continuously promotes other channels like Geeks n gamers, world class bullshitters… ehm left foot media and others. All of which are very similar, pushing their agenda and really doing nothing than copy pasting articles in youtube-form. He speak of these as family and good friends.

That he came here just to promote his channel on youtube (which in turn promotes patreon and tshirt sales) is a bit shady as well. I cannot tell if he’s just a bit awkward and hopeful or if he’s really really disingeuous.

I may just be getting old and bitter and this is just fine but the more i look into it the less positive i become. I mean, i didn’t like TLJ (like not even one bit) but this youtube generation is a bizarre bunch of people. So much hatred. Jeez.

With that said i really hope i’m just paranoid and this will turn out just fine. I the meantime i’ll just check back here and do my best to purge my youtube recommendations.

His redo of Luke vs. Kylo really sounds interesting. I, for one, can’t wait to check out the finished product.

No offense guys, but you were the ones who were insulting him and berating him behind his back, I’ve just gone through this thread after the link was posted on a Star Wars Reddit (SaltierthanCrait) thread, he isn’t forcing anyone to give him money, or pay for the edit, if people want to give him money in appreciation for the work then that is their prerogative.

I for one have enjoyed all the edited clips he has posted so far… I don’t agree with trying to composite in new actors or anything wacky like that, but the stuff like the saber toss, Leia flying, Luke not dying, Rey training montage etc… Have all been far better and less insulting than the original cut of the film.

I am certainly interested in checking out the other edits people are making here, and I was reminded through this site of the Extended cuts of the original 6 films that are being worked on here too (I remember seeing it a few years ago but not registering an account) so I’m glad to have found this community.

I think that most of us can agree that Rian Johnson performed a monumentally horrendous act in creating this film, which subverts, deconstructs, tears apart, and hangs upside down (before setting it on fire) so many parts of the Star Wars saga that had been built-up with love and respect over the past 40 years, even The Force Awakens was largely an enjoyable and respectful film. Any work that can salvage it even in the slightest, is worthy work in my opinion.

This seems to be the general disconnect between fans. I tend to believe communities such as those here do what we do because we think tweaks can be made to make something better. If any of us truly dismissed TLJ to the extent you state I don’t honestly see anyone even trying.

A more correct criticism would be that TLJ is not a flawless film, and to analyse those flaws. I watch Ivan’s videos as I’m genuinely interested in some of his tweaks, but he utterly undermines any work he’s doing with statements like ‘fire Kathleen Kennedy’ or encouraging online abuse towards Rian Johnson, because neither impact the film we received.

I respect your reaction to the film, but I want to enhance the good stuff and help hide the bad through edits, nothing more.

Which in fact shows that the Ivan guy just didn’t understand the movie he was fanediting. Which is fine, to each his own, but you just then cannot say that…

No. JJ did that, Rian fixed some issues of the postlogy with his episode 8.

That is absolutely laughable. JJ did a far better job making a Star Wars film than Rian Johnson could ever do. Then again, if you’re quoting James Cameron’s opinion of TFA there’s probably nothing I could ever say to get through to you.

As for Ivan’s edit, TLJ is an unmitigated disaster of a movie and I, for one, would welcome a fanedit that could make it even remotely watchable. At this point, however, I don’t know if it’s even possible to salvage such a trainwreck!

To be honest… if the voiceover idea works, this is something I’d like to mix into Hal’s Legendary (or any other glorious edits we’ll see).

Now, many more will be excited to discover, that you are not just putting together a movie with minor tweaks, but you are doing a major overhaul. You’re fixing it with professionalism. Your love for Star Wars and desire to save Star Wars is evident. Make it beloved again. You also listen to fan input. This is going to be a amazing product when completed.

Ivan is not here anymore. He posted this thread and that’s about it. You better continue commenting on his YouTube if you want your feedback heard (or read). But yeah… I’m excited as well about some of the changes he is working on.

It works better, the previous version was just non sense. Making the angry walking away just a normal walking away is the best idea (if you wish to accomodate with other changes made to Luke though, so I’m not sure it would work in the context of TLJ:Legendary), as well as removing the weird back and forth of Rey from the shore to the center of the island. I even feel the voice-over is not necessary (or just put a voice-over from TFA).

(so if you want to use it in TLJ:L, the angry walking needs to be reinstalled and the added voice-over needs to stay out)

Too bad Ivan decided to go away, his edit seems to be on a better track now (especially since the corrections made to this particular moment have all been discussed here… anyway, that’s is choice).

(and +1 with the music choice, a far better idea than the twin theme and it even makes sense here)

This project is very ambitious, and I’ve been watching his videos for a while now.

One thing I never understood, though, is why he’s redoing the Kylo / Luke fight. Usually he explains his thinking but I must have missed this. Is it because TLJ didn’t have a “real” lightsaber battle?

I kind of thought that was brilliant in a way. Luke was more powerful with his cunning than with trying to be a superhero. It was the only way he could truly live up to the legend.

Fair enough. I don’t think I agree with the idea, but it will definitely be interesting to see!

Many of his other edits are excellent, but I think overall this cut will be too radical for me.
