Trying to fix Ackbar death is a great idea. But introducing a “spy” subplot out of the blue that would have no conclusion in order to fix plot holes feels like digging a new hole to fill another.

This radical edit seems very ambitious but I’m pretty sure many ideas won’t work and are gonna create more plot issues than fixing the existent ones. And changing Luke’s saber from blue to green is very wrong (unless many changes I’m not aware of are going to make it seem logicial, because in the theatricul cut it does make perfect sense the saber is blue).

It’s kind of fun to watch this lofty edit being put together. In the end though as Mala said, I see a lot of these ideas not working all that well and being very awkward in execution. Like adding Admiral Ackbar into the movie and the extended lightsaber battle playing out in a long wide shot.

I’m still interested to see the final result though.

The only thing I don’t like of the theatrical duel is the bullet-time effect which is dated and ridiculous. We don’t need duel of the fates or battle of the heroes in every SW, the red guards is a very good action scene, Ben v Luke doesn’t need more but less. Either way, I’m very intrigued to check the final version of Ivan’s edit, everything put together might work, I don’t know, and his skills in editing are very good so at least I’m confident there won’t be real video/audio jarring issues.

He needs to stop relying on non-existent VO from the actors.

He says he’s going to hire someone to do a Mark Hamill impersonation. It should be, uh…interesting.

He’s almost better off using various different jedi quotes from the past (Obiwan… Yoda… Qui Gon) over the training montage. I think if done properly, it could really give a sense of Rey’s power being a culmination of all the greatest jedi’s teachings.

Excellent idea that would sell the montage instantly, while providing more of the “legacy” theme contained in Episode 8 (as the twin movie of Episode 3… yeah, I insist about that, 3/8 are created as mirrors and are both very good SW movies with their own flaws and their greatness). Hearing Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda (à la Revels season 4), would be great. Sadly, Ivan doesn’t seem to show up here so he might not get this brillant feedback.

I feel like fan-edits would fall under fair use, so he’s not technically doing anything illegal by profiting?

I don’t agree with it, and those paying him don’t even know if he is going to provide a good product. He acts like he’s a professional editor, but what commercial product has he edited? Most of the videos on his channel are lightly edited rants or commentary on ‘how much of a cuck Rian Johnson is’.

Canto Bight and Finn’s sacrifice looks pretty good, but I don’t think there’s any way to do voice acting without it being too distracting.

Wait, is the whole edit only going to have 2 channel stereo as the audio track? If so, that’s very disappointing news.

If you sum up everything I feel this can be seen as quite fishy about this project (2.0 sound only, weird choices that aren’t likely to work, patron site, etc.)… and I don’t get why he opened a thread here if he doesn’t show up from time to time (maybe he does but since he doesn’t login or leaves replies it’s hard to tell). Perhaps we should stop posting his new videos and let him do that himself ? (for example Adywan doesn’t show up very often but he’s a long time member of the community and each time there is something new he posts the news himself in his topic)

I don’t know if I would call it fishy. But I think it’s clear he’s more interested in growing his channel than being a part of any fan-edit community. Hence his “clickbaity” names, somewhat long-winded rants and his decision to post updates on YouTube when Vimeo is a much less conspicuous option.

He’s also selling T-shirts now, too. He’s definitely making the most of it. Or from it, I should say.
