Well for me it would either be a drastic restructuring like I suggested above, or…

What you just proposed. A simple edit.

I think it would fix a huge majority of the movie’s most glaring problems, with the smallest amount of effort required.

I think Leia’s spacewalk is one of the biggest factors of people losing the plot in the theaters. It’s just so dumb…

I haven’t encountered a single person in my circle who liked it. Most either disliked it, or outright hated it.

I think this would be the quickest change anyone should do when starting an edit of this movie. Blow that piece of junk… OUT OF THE SKY!

One idea I had for a radical restructure is using TFA Restructured as a base, and instead of having the opening attack on the dreadnought in TLJ, have the attack everyone is infuriated about be the destruction of Starkiller Base and the Republic. Leia can still be pissed at Poe for the loss of life, and he can still be cocky about it, since he destroyed the superweapon. Either way, it’s going to be really fun to play around with both films.

@Daxtreme

Awesome! I’d be interested in seeing both the extreme AND the more subtle versions.

As long as we can agree about the LEIA scene!

I must be the only one in the world who thinks that’s the best scene in the film.

Don’t worry Hal, you made TFA restructured (among others), ain’t gonna hold you to any fire!

But I still think it’s a bad scene. Not only bad, but badly edited as well.

edit:@Dominic

well it looks silly. Don’t know how else to put it

I liked the idea. I just wish she looked better in close up - for whatever reason they obviously went with a CGI Carrie and made her look much younger than she looks at any other point in the film.

Also while I have no problem with her using the force to get back in the ship I wish they had put her closer to the ship. Would have cut down on the “Mary Poppins” complaints.

I loved the idea but did not think the execution was good.

A better alternative would have been that she was trapped under some rubble, they are calling out for her, and just when they think she’s gone, she force lifts the rubble off her. cue epic Leia theme.

just kill her Then reval when poe tries to take over the resistance that Leia is alive.

At first I thought she literally came back from the dead and I honestly hated the idea.

Eh, sounds like a pointless reveal to make.

I plan on cutting the wide shot of her actual “flying”, as well as the close up on her face of her eyes opening.

We will see her floating in space for moment, then her hand opens slightly, and behind her hand the stars will begin to move. Cut to the shot of our heroes aboard the ship looking amazed and then running to the door where her hand appears on the window.

It preserves Leia’s great force moment, but eliminates the awkward execution.

Would it be possible to make Leia do the suicide run with Holdo?

I know 😕. I love her last scene with Rey, but since Lucasfilm is not putting her in IX, something has to change. Imo

Not if you put Hoth 2.0 at the beginning of the movie with a radical restructure!

I’m quite sure that JJ will have a plan to close out Leia’s story. And I couldn’t be happier that Rian decided to fully close out the story he gave her and not change it. I feel it shows respect for Carrie and the character.

Yeah. I’m hoping JJ does something, but Kathleen already said Carrie won’t be in the film, so idk how they’ll satisfyingly close it out without her.

Episode IX
EPILOGUE

General Leia Organa has lost the will to live. After melting into the Force, the Resistance is without any hope as the First Order pursues them to the ends of the galaxy.

Ben Solo, the feared leader of darkness, is obsessed with finding the girl who defied him, and will not rest until Rey, the first of a new Jedi Order, has been destroyed.

Now, each side is prepared to fight each other until one or the other is summarily destroyed, thus ending STAR WARS, unless the defeated party should happen to rise again from an obscure part of the galaxy in a few decades’ time…

My stance on revising fan edits.
