Just one thing: I would cut just Rey saying “seriously” which I fell is out of place, her confused face is enough.
v4 is ready if anyone is interested. If you can live with the lightsaber looking like this for a brief second, I think this scene works really well!

I believe that’s a good idea, echoing “return of the Jedi” and “Revenge of the author”. Yet I have to remark that in order to let the torch be passed down to Rey, it’s necessary to show Luke fading away (and for consistency with Ep IX where he will be a force ghost). Obviously imho.

I purposely left Luke’s demise ambiguous in my cut. I let the sunset represent his fate, rather than actually show him fade away.

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! There won’t be a 4k version but I’m working on rendering it in HD - I was having trouble with final file size being too large and was using handbrake to create manageable files, but somebody recently recommended Ripbot, so I am going to try that next - stand by! In the meantime, I’m glad everybody is enjoying my cut 😃
FYI, full HD fanedits in high quality regularly hit around 30GB for Blu-Ray equivalent quality, so I wouldn’t worry too much unless it’s larger than 35-40GB, or if it’s large like that and doesn’t look almost indistinguishable from the BR quality-wise.

I’ve never seen a version of that which doesn’t look too artificial for my taste. I’m a fan of Poppasketti’s take on it, which is to simply shift the music cue so it doesn’t play as a joke.

No, in this fancut there is no scene with the handover.
