The Kenobi Movie Show (Spoilers) — Page 9

The fact that there was basically NOTHING to celebrate Star Wars’ 40th birthday is a bit sad.

For comparison, Doctor Who at 40 had been off the air for 14 years, save for one TV movie, yet it still got a whole documentary and an animated webcast to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Star Wars is more popular than Doctor Who, so you’d think it would’ve been a big deal. Then again, Star Trek Beyond’s marketing did not make a single mention of the franchise’s anniversary, so I guess studios think people don’t care about franchise anniversaries.

Blockbuster audiences don’t care about much.

So apparently this might be turned into a Disney+ limited tv series instead:
https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2019/02/report-obi-wan-kenobi-series-to-be-made-for-disney-streaming-service.html

Probably good to be wary of the rumor as there are a lot of rumors around SW tv shows right now.

I would be open for it, as I always saw the idea of an Obi-Wan movie to be something much more character focused and not some big epic, and TV series would be perfect for that.

If Ewan is on board, it could be great. A series could lend itself to more stories about living life on Tatooine. Star Wars was always a bit of a space western. The flashback to Luke’s life before the movies was one of my favorite issues of the old Marvel book.

The two questions I have are, would they go back to Tunisia to shoot some of it? and would Liam Neeson be in this, or at least his voice? I don’t see this going past 1 season, due to location shooting in Tunisia, Unless they shoot it elsewhere.

It would be cool to see a young Luke Skywalker, like Anakin in TPM. As well as Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.

I’m sure the Falcon will fly over Ben Kenobi at one point in the series.

I’m not sure that part of the world is the safest place to shoot a tv show these days. There are plenty of arid locations in the U.S. they could film at. Some been used for Star Wars before, such as Death Valley. I presume the Arizona sand dunes used for Jabba’s sail barge sequence are still around. With the advancement in digital effects, they won’t have to worry about dune buggies in the background this time. 😉

I figured they would use Death Valley and the sand dunes of Buttercup Valley, CA. My concern is Mos Eisley, unless they build some partial sets and green screen the rest. They’re going to go the cheapest route, if it’s a series and not a film.

They would probably just build Mos Eisley or similar sets in LA, then travel out to places like Death Valley for other stuff.

It’s too bad they couldn’t go on location in Tunisia and film a couple of shots, then film the rest in the US. It’s easier to build sets I guess. I prefer actual locations. It’s a tradition, not anymore I guess.

Wouldn’t this be easier?

On a TV budget it would be much too time consuming (and therefore more expensive) to CGI everything like ROTS did. You could argue that the same applies to most movies also.

I’d imagine a Kenobi series would be much easier and cheaper than the two series currently in production. Plenty of desert in California, and places like Mos Eisley is hardly the craziest locations in the SW universe to build as sets.

I hate fake green screen sets like the Prequels. But, if they did something like Dagobah or Mos Espa, then ok.

Is Tunisia even viable for film crews these days? As for this (vaguely rumoured) show I can’t imagine them spending a lot on location shooting of any kind. The Mandalorian is just being shot in California from what I’ve read.

My sarcasm was lost, apparently.

No, I understood you, I was just stating that I really hate green screens.

I know they won’t film in Tunisia, it costs too much.

There could be a lot of Tunisia background plates shot for the prequels or even the OT sitting in the vault.

I would be dissapointed if this didn’t crop up at least once an episode:
Star Trek Rocks

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Only if Obi Wan has to battle Bossk to the death. 😛

I’m amazed Vasquez Rocks hasn’t been in Star Wars yet!

This being on a tight budget and all, I’m pretty sure this will show up either in The Mandalorian or Kenobi series in due time, of course.
