The Netflix streaming version had great PQ for an SD stream, and the sound wasn't bad either.

Flv, I think. I posted all the specs I knew how to change up above.
Wow, great find!
Ah got it, I say rip it and lets see what we have, we can edit and colour correct it later
While the amazon version is a decent version of the video master it is in 4x3, 2.35:1 is essential for a good representation of the film.

I believe the ONLY version I have is an older LD rip that made the rounds some time back. A cool movie in it's own right.
Here are the specs for what I have ....
Video:
MPGV (VOB)
Resolution: 720x480
Frame rate: 29.97
Data Rate: 7260
Total bitrate: 7516
Audio:
Codec: A52
Channels: Stereo
Sample rate: 48000
Bitrate: 256 kb/s3.40GB in size
Sounds close to mine The_Keep_1983_The Keep (1983).par2"
I'm content being able to watch what I have though it would be nice to have better pq.
I found this ...
Looks like it's laserdisc sourced ..... I could be wrong.
I don't want to link the site where I downloaded the 1.46GB netflix rip here, but if anyone wants to PM me for it, that's cool (if that's within guidelines) though I did just find it through google. I would upload it to myspleen, etc. but I'm really not experienced on that front.
The netflix version is definitely the best I've seen.

No way that looks Laserdisc looks more like the sat rip
Asaki said: It's not Mann's best film by any means, but it's neat in its own way...and a little bad in places (in a good way).
Thanks. I've just watched the DVD, and I agree with you. And thanks to dvdmike for posting the file-name, without which I couldn't have found it.
I've got the old LD rip burned to DVD, and the picture quality is watchable, but the sound quality sounds like they recorded it by holding a microphone up to their TV.
Edit: That YouTube video sounds like the same LD rip that I'm talking about, give it a listen. Unless it's supposed to sound weird like that...

I always figured the 3GB one I have was dumbed down from a Dual Layer disc upload. Hard to say though. I "may" look in to picking up that DVD just to see ..... I haven't decided yet.
There is a documentary coming out about this in the near future...
This dude fanatically has tried to get the original version released before it got butchered by the studios but I am keeping an eye out for this documentary and also one day we get to see the now disowned film that Michael Mann made that was visually compelling and a strange curiosity of what might have been.
The person doing the documentary has a website all about the film and has also made a molascar Manakin if you like as he is involved in creature and make up effects and was one of his many inspirations to get into this line of work.
Practically there is a much longer version at about 4 hours long... Which is probably a workprint but that could easily be 3 hours after editing.
Documentary title
CHRONICLES OF A WWII FAIRY TALE: THE MAKING OF MICHAEL MANN'S THE KEEP (2013)
The Keep is available to rent or purchase in SD on Google Play or YouTube: https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/The_Keep?id=UjAqWOnXu18&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm1vdmllLVVqQXFXT25YdTE4Il0......no idea if it's the 4x3 video master or 2.35:1. May look further into it....anyone else interested?
I was also able to see this recently on 35mm, as expected it was gorgeous. Hopefully more news of this will come, as Paramount (or Warner?) seems pretty lax about distributing this digitally.
Oh man, what I would do to get my hands on the 35mm...

There is only one in the UK and I know where it will be if we are planning an elaborate Oceans 11 style heist

I'd be totally down for an old fashioned heist! lol
We could grab all of them while we're at it like in the old days of Star Wars... :)
Sweet, we can lift The Keep, replace it with my 35mm copy of 'Toys' and maybe no-one will notice until screening night.
Then we scan The Keep, Sneak back in and swap the films back again minutes before screening, with lots of high tension shenanigans in-between.

Ah, I love it when a plan comes together. Maybe we could even have one of those chase sequences where we're in a hallway full of doors?
lol
I am going to to go, I am off that week
The BFI's print is the one I saw in NY, dinged up a bit, but phenomenal detail and color (there were thoughts of a very elaborate heist, but I settlds with just watching the film).
Also The Keep is streaming on Epix HD's site from what appears to be a superior master, however the stream is quite pixelated and squashed to 1.78:1
URGENT. FOLKS IN THE UK. Film4 (HD?) is airing this tonight (8/15) at 11:20pm
It would be fantastic if someone could try and record this.

Darn. If it is true HD it be a real missed opportunity if it's not captured.
I'll hold out hope for something.
I hope someone will Film4 did not reply :( I am recording the SD I bet it is the same master Sky used
good to know. I'm all for trying to find out if anyone did an HD capture. I'd be curious to know if the SD is any better than the Netflix rip though.
Will have a look in a min and update
Same master with the wonky bars, no way it was in no way HD
