The Keep - Satellite Rip (Released) — Page 2

Maybe that user could shed some light on how to cap NF in HD.

I would ask, but my CG account got cleaned out, and registration is always full.

Wanted to bump this. Anyone know the best version of this...still the NF rip. If so, anyone know of its availability, Im not a CG member. As of know The Keep is off Netflix and is streaming on Amazon, but in a 4x3 version that is clearly the video master.

Where are you in the world? Sky show it here in the UK in 16:9 every now and then

I believe the ONLY version I have is an older LD rip that made the rounds some time back.  A cool movie in it's own right.

I'm in the US and I haven't seen it pop up on tv. Anyone ever record it from Sky (and does sky show it in 2:35:1)?

Nevertheless, I was able to grab what appears to be the Netflix rip online after a lot of searching (I had the link here, but that might be against OT guidelines)

(Again, I'm not connected with CG, usenet, etc.)

I'm quite happy with it. Its 1.45 GB 720p MKV, so it's very compressed, but much cleaner than the LD rips I've found, the colors and sound are very nice as well. I'm curious when this master is from, created for a DVD perhaps, I believe folks had said that while it was 720p streaming on Netflix, the master didn't appear to be true HD.

I've burned it to DVD as well and happy with the results, but again if there is anything out there superior to the NF rip out there, I'd like to know.

For reference...

Here's a cap of my copy of the LD rip:

And the NF rip:

I'd be happy with any version just so I could see the film.

I'd love a directors cut or extended cut, so much good material was cut from the film. Hope a company like SHOUT or OLIVE get ahold of it.

Hell yes! but I would be happy also even if Twilight Time got it, someone needs to.

Interview in new Home Cinema Choice in the UK talk to Arrow's restoration head and ask him if they can get it and he said he would love to work on it.

And yes, Sky show it in 2.35:!

I just bought the LD to transfer it if anyone is interested in another LD rip being done. I will see if it is available on any Australian streaming services.

It is not currently on Netflix in the US, it is on Amazon instant, albeit in 4x3 and clearly taken from the video master.

Since it's Paramount, Olive is possible. However Paramount dumped most of its catalog (and almost certainly The Keep with it) with Warner and it definitely seems like a title Warner might be interested in, maybe through the Warner Archive. It'd be awesome if Arrow got a crack at it... who holds the rights to it in the UK? Paramount as well?

I've heard rumblings about a new HD master being made a few years ago. It'd be great if Mann was involved, but it's obviously not a priority for him, I don't know if he's even talked publicly about it since before its theatrical release.

Speculation aside, it would be really nice if someone in the UK were able to record and capture it the next time it appears on Sky.

Glad that there's interest in this title.

It's not Mann's best film by any means, but it's neat in its own way...and a little bad in places (in a good way).

Also, this movie accurately predicts what Ian McKellen was going to look like in old age. Totally creepy and probably worth watching for that reason alone.

Here's a test capture I did from Amazon - any settings that look like they need tweaking?

OK, HD edit on the way to be uploaded. BTW, I overscanned it so that we would have more than enough info to crop it later...

I think so... Check it out and see - I'm no expert!  :)

Hot damn, mobile right now will check it out in a bit

I would not call it HD in a heartbeat but its workable and looks to have more detail than the sat rip and miles more than the LD and can be worked with to get it looking nice

Ok, so what do you think of the 1-2 min I capped? Any changes in quality I should make?

Wow, great find!
