I guess nobody wants this 35mm preservation because it’s not a disney movie. who cares if it hasn’t made it past vhs and laserdisc. we only preserve stuff that is out on dvd and bluray because the color or something is off.

There “are” plenty of people interested… but who do you send the money to? What guarantee is there that this is legit? Like I posted before, if the person who has the negative/film print would post pictures of the film reels and some shots of the negative (to confirm that it is THE KEEP), that would increase likelihood in people donating money.
A Kickstarter or GoFundMe wouldn’t hurt either.
There is someone on MySpleen who has been doing 35mm transfers to digital… if they could be contacted to look into this (to verify things), that could help too.

I was being a bit sarcastic, and yes we should verify this, I was just ranting that there a plenty of disney projects going on taking donations that have yet to come to any kind of release, many of which have been ongoing for eons.
Bump. I would look into donating a bit of cash given this whole charade with there being a lack of a proper HD master of the movie is getting ridiculous at this point. However, like everyone else, I say this IF there was some sort of proof of this print’s existence. Has there been any contact with Jade33 since this thread started in the past five years? Any photos, at all, of this supposed LPP?

Sorry about the double post, but I’ve been doing a bit of digging myself recently and I’ve managed to come across a reputable contact of my own who has a rather vast inventory of film prints and lucky for us all, The Keep is in that list and he is willing to have that be rented out and scanned for roughly under $800.
Truth be told, I actually am kind of betting it’s the same source because although the source’s name remains anonymous as of right now, it’s filed under his inventory as “KEEP, THE (1983)- SCOPE, LPP, BEAUTIFUL!#”, which sounds familiar doesn’t it? Anyways, I would give more information on the source but sadly as of right now, the person wants to remain anonymous so sadly I don’t have any more details as of right now. However, I will say that proof of legitimacy can be found if you know where to look.
Anyways, however, before I start vainly asking for money like a beggar, I am putting together a poll on the topic of film print scanning to determine if The Keep would gain enough traction for a print scan or another movie from the anonymouse collector’s list.
You can answer it here: https://strawpoll.com/c35bzdx5
Once I have some results and sort things out, I hope to be able to start a proper thread on a couple of forums on the top picked film and work things out from there. So if y’all wanna have a Take 2 at the idea of this thread, please vote and I’ll hope to get back to you all as soon as possible.

I am currently pulling together donation pledges for a preservation scan right now. I would love to post more details when I can. If anyone is interested in pledging though, just reply down below and I’ll keep tally of it. At the moment though, I’ve just got $10 from FilmD00d, so thanks for that man.

I would like to say thanks to people around the film preservation community, we’re currently roughly reached $230, a little over a 1/4 of the way there!
For those of you who want to pledge a donation, please reply down below!
Furtherly, you can check out a proper thread to this at other sites, such as FanRes: https://forum.fanres.com/thread-3107.html

Is there still a way to get hold of the custom 12gb bd from the hdtv source?
Lucas, Raise my donation to $300. This would put you at 77% of your goal of 830
Attention! At this moment, the pledged funding is currently at $737 out of the necessary $830! Less than $100 is needed to be pledged before donations can be accepted for the renting and scanning process to occur!

I can throw in 10$ to help out!
Count me in for 30!

Actually, this got fully funded a little while back. If you want to keep up with the project, I recommend looking up the FanRes thread.
Here’s a tease of the print itself though to show my legitimacy though.

this sure is ramping up, but Im now a little confused, are we still needing donations or is this project past that? I’d like to help out if its not too late.
I’d love to check this out! If you’re still taking donations for it or anything else please let me know.

I am currently taking donations for Big Trouble In Little China if you or anyone else is interested.

Do please tag your OT username as a note or so if you donate so it’ll be easier to keep track of who’s who.
Thank you all in advance!

just watched the grindhouse. It certainly works on large screen better than the so called hdtv broadcast. It’s definitely darker in some scenes, which isn’t necessarily a problem as it enhances the errieness of the movie in places, although some scenes are more awkward. I’ll probably play around with it in kdenlive for some adjustment.

Yeah apologies on the darker color grade. I kept the brightness a bit low to minimalize highlight clipping & compression and didn’t really boost the shadows since it didn’t really bring out any real detail given it’s a print.

Where can I download this version of The Keep?..I would like to make a DCP.
I just finished a preliminary touch up on this, adjusted the crop and lighting scene by scene. Available on the spleen.

Incredible! Was your finished version the 1080p.35mm.v1.1FLAC… version? It’s amazing!
Are there programs out there that can color match other sources? I have The Hitcher on blu-ray courtesy of NSM Media in Germany, and it’s from a high contrast print as well. Detail is better than the dvd, but the color timing needs some work.
Is there a way to use the previous releases (on DVD for The Hitcher and the HDTV rip for The Keep) to copy the color timing over the HD 35mm print video files?
Can I have a link to this please?
Is there a link for The Keep still available? Has anyone ever come across the 210 min cut? I’ve never seen it and want to correct it but want to see as much of the full version when I do…especially before the Greg Nicotero Remake

The 210 cut in the other hand, is still locked at Paramount vaults
