The original Karate Kid is already a solid movie on its own. Which is why this fanedit is a bit more conservative. This edit was made with the intention of satisfying some of my subjective preferences such as adding more music to scenes(mostly from the karate kid soundtrack) and making the tone slightly more serious. In other words most of these edits don’t technically improve the filmmaking or characters by any means, it’s just a fans personal preference of what they would have preferred played out on screen.
Cultist:
- trimmed the shot of Johnny’s bloody nose only to make him look more superior during the beach sequence.
- Kept the extended lunch sequence, but cut some extra dialogue and shots from my extended edition to get rid of some of the built up tension that goes nowhere since it automatically cuts to the next scene. Also added an AI voice over from Johnny saying “why’d you sh*t yourself” to get rid of some awkward silence. It surprisingly sounded decent so I kept it.
- Added a bit of menacing music when Daniel and Johnnys eyes lock at the Cobra Kai dojo.
- Trimmed the Halloween chase by cutting Johnny and his goons tripping as well as Daniel causing a car accident. Some other minor cuts and changes(with music) in this sequence.
- Cut Daniel and Miyagi driving to the cobra Kai dojo.
- Added the beginning of Iron Maiden’s the trooper when Miyagi and Daniel walk in to the Cobra Kai dojo.
- Used some of terry silvers music cues as well as other karate kid themes during the visit to the dojo as well as the confrontation with Miyagi and Kreese.
- Cut Daniel finding Miyagi meditating and falling asleep
- Cut the scene of Daniel and Johnny’s friends with the history teacher.
- Added music where Miyagi shows Daniel the purpose of all the house labor exercises. A small cut of Daniel bending over again when he wasn’t supposed to.
- Added the deleted confrontation between Daniel and Johnny in the hallway… Cut some of Johnny’s overacting and also added what appeared to be Johnny’s theme.
- Added music from KK2 to the scene where Miyagi gets drunk.
- Added more KK music to the scene where Miyagi gives Daniel the car as well as the music from Cobra Kai when Daniel is reminiscing about Miyagi giving him the car in season 1.
- Cut the confrontation scene with the referee about Ali being there while adding Iron Maiden’s The Prisoner when Daniel and Miyagi are walking towards the ring.
- Added music to the build up of Daniel and Bobby facing off.
- Added back the scene of Bobby throwing the belt at Kreese
- Took a couple different angles from the first episode of Cobra Kai and incorporated some of the shots I liked during the final fight.
