Ha! The tonal shift seems a bit jarring to me.

I’ve got it all figured out!

I’ve decided I’m going to document more of my scenes, when they are uploaded, I will add them to this website!

I love the amount of thought you put into the edit thus far! I really look forward to seeing more of your videos detailing your ideas. I’ve always thought there was a decent performance from Hayden Christiansen in this movie, once you edit out all the awkward crap that was in the script.

Thank-you! Positivity really helps! And yes, I agree. I really wish Hamil, Ford, and Fisher were invited on set to tell the new actors about Lucas’s strengths and weaknesses. I really feel like they must have treated him like he was a know-it-all which he really isn’t.

I feel the shots of Vader and Palpatine could’ve been distorted more, obscuring their features and making them more mysterious. Otherwise, it’s a fine addition.

And I quite like what you did with the Anakin/Padme scene. Sublime.

Thank-you for the feedback! I will attempt to do this.

This was my thoughts exactly. For example, just show the outline of vaders helmet, or just the sith eyes of the emperor glowing inside a dark cloak. Also consider adding the sounds of anakin being operating on at the end of ROTS.

Also is there anyway to extend the last shot of anakin when he reacts to padme saying she’ll go? Like could the last few frames be slowed down or something to make a less abrupt transition to the next scene?

Otherwise great work so far.

EDIT: also consider changing darth line to “together we can rule the galaxy” and then have it just trail off as nonsensical noise. This would be a good tie in with his statement to padme in ROTS about overthrowing the chancellor and ruling the galaxy, make things they way they want them.

EDIT 2: also can you take out anakin calling padme senator? Ugh bothers me every time.

Hey Cathy, really enjoyed your edit video you previously posted where we got to hear you talk about the changes you made to a particular Anakin/Padme scene too.

Also, I would suggest instead of making a new thread for each update or request for assistance, you should just have a single thread where you can post about your edit. That way you can just make new posts in that thread, and it will be easy for other people to keep track of all of your updates as well.

EDIT: To give you some notes on your dream idea. I honestly would suggest trying to cut the initial shot of Anakin in bed, and just keep the final shot of him waking up, and see how that works.
I agree with the others that Vader, the Emperor and the Vader line need to be a lot more hidden and subtle, like as fans we will notice it, but I think there still be some ambiguity rather than just being totally obvious, especially if this was for someone hypothetically watching these movies for the first time in chronological order.

I would also suggest adding a vague/blurry shot or two of actual Tusken raiders, and maybe one of their distorted roars, and maybe those images/sounds could transform into a nightmarish Vader and his breathing. I feel like since this vision is about his mother, it definitely should be more focused on what has happened to her, but with some small hints towards Vader.
Also, while it doesn’t necessarily have to be the same, instead of just having the vignette around the edges, you could also try to replicate the dream effect from ROTS. Maybe if you can find some kind of smoky overlay effects, and then add a blur effect outside a circle of focus that is centerpunched on the screen. There also seems to be some sort of halo effect that distorts the colors, but I’m not sure what the best approach is to achieve that effect.

I was just thinking that. Is there a way I can merge the two threads or ask any moderators to do it for me?

The idea of the blade changing briefly to red reminds me of a discussion on this site ages ago where people were debating whether to have Luke’s eyes turn red briefly as he is defeating Vader in RotJ. The thought was that it would show how close he was to the dark side before stopping himself and his eyes would return to normal.

Some people thought this was a good idea but some people thought the visual would be overkill as the scene shows what’s happening perfectly without this.

Personally I feel it is similar to the idea of “show, don’t tell” - but in this case it would be “don’t lay it on TOO thick”. Where the scene already portrays something I’d say let the visuals enhance it, but the problem with the prequels is many scenes don’t convey things in a particularly elegant way, so some visual assistance could be good, but could also be somewhat overpowering and cause the film to feel dumbed down.

Just some food for thought. I did like the trailer though and am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I removed the scene where he talks about killing sand people. The deaths of the sand people are never mentioned again, he doesn’t talk about the way killing them makes him feel at all. So, hopefully, it won’t be laid on too thick. 😃

I like that! But the scene transition would be bothersome. I need something to go from Yoda to Anakin’s dream sequence, it’s too unclear to go straight from Yoda to dream sequence. but I don’t know what to transition to. Do you have any suggestions? I thought maybe an establishing shot at night time of the building he is sleeping in, but would that be any better than how it is currently? What would that achieve?

Agreed. I’ve got something in mind to make it more ambiguous.

I will try it out!

Yeah, I’ve got an idea for that. I don’t think I will try and mimic ROTS but I’m going to take inspiration.
Thank-you so much!
