ROTS: The Jedi Now Seen In A Different Light...

Wow…now that I’ve had some time to digest the midnight screening it’s occcurred to me that the Jedi really became self-righteous and borderline corrupt.

Two things come to mind. They essentially rip Anakin away from everything he loves throughout every one of the PT films. On top of that, they fill his head full of all of these promises and then don’t deliver. It’s no wonder Palpatine was able to exploit his emotions considering how much the Jedi had let him down.

On top of this, I finally realized that the Jedi are so judgmental and arrogant. Yoda says in TPM, “Always two there are, a Master and an Apprentice,” regarding the Sith. Same thing for the Jedi right?

This really changes things for me.

You are kinda missing the point. The Sith are an offshoot of the Jedi, so they share many of the same practices. When a Jedi is done training one apprentice, he can take on another, but only one at a time (remember in TPM?). The Sith focus solely on one apprentice, who eventually replaces his master, and then takes on his own apprentice. Prior to this, the Sith were building up their numbers, much as the Jedi had done, but infighting killed off many of the Sith, thus the "Rule of Two" was born.

Either way, I don't see how this is a valid argument for showing how judgemental and arrogant the Jedi are. Are you implying that the "Rule of Two" makes the Sith less judgemental and arrogant?

The Jedi are totally devoid of compassion.

Did they go back to free Anakin's mother from slavery? The amount of money she was worth was a drop in the bucket for the Jedi, yet they left her to be a slave. Awful.

Ben leaves Anakin to die in the worst way possible ... that just blows me away.

The Jedi are petty and self-serving in these movies ... very little nobility to be seen.

Uh, I suppose while in film school george lucas didn't attend the "Plot Holes 101" class?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

LOL. For that matter, why didn't Qui-Gon just tell Watto to keep C-3PO as his slave and take mom in the first place?

Neither did Padme, which to me is the greater fault. Anakin did save her planet, after all. Does this mean she is lacking in compassion as well?

"Ben leaves Anakin to die in the worst way possible ... that just blows me away."

I didn't see any fire extinguishers nearby, and Anakin was still spouting venom at him as he caught on fire. Anakin did try to kill him. What, exactly, was Obi-wan to do?

what exactly did Shim do for Watto? usually slaves do work for their master, but Shmi seemed to just sit at home and tend house.

Maybe the Jedi did free Shmi. Maybe it went down like this: Obi-Wan and Clegg (believe thats Owen's fathers name) are actually the ones that are brothers, though it could actually be Owen, either way they have some sort of family relation going on. Obi-Wan calles up Clegg on the com-link, 'Hey Clegg, how's your family? Good to hear. Oh the Jedi thing, yeah its going great, actually just got appointed a Master and have myself an apprentice now. Yeah, actually thats the reason im calling. See he actually happens to be from your home planet...Yeah, i was there not to long ago, sorry I wanted to stop buy but we were kinda rushed, you know running from this Sith Lord, trying to avert a war...Heh, yeah exactly typical stuff. Anyway, his Mom's still actually on the planet. Yeah, she's a slave, we couldnt actually get her freed. Some guy named Watto, oh you know him? Thats good, listen you think you can go buy her from him, Just let me know what it costs and Ill wire you the credits. Yeah, i can just put it on my expense account. Thanks alot, I owe you one, ill try and stop by to visit soon, give Owen and his wife my regards, sorry i couldnt make the wedding. Anyway i gotta run, yeah its movie night, we're watching Raiders of the Lost ark, yeah I love that movie, its still my favorite. Talk to you soon, take care'
Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

The Jedi never were the most trustworthy heroes, when you consider Obi-Wan and Yoda did nothing but lie their way through the entire Original Trilogy... "From a certain point of view", of course, and all but used Luke, and to some extent Leia, to enact their final revenge on Anakin and Sidious.

Bottom line is: Yes they are flawed. They are people who do heroic acts, but their flaws are what make them real people, instead of cardboard cut-out "super-heroes".
