The Jedi/Feta Definitive Collection (Released)

 (Edited)

Anyone who’s been following the Faces thread is probably well aware that team Jedi/Feta have once again put their resources together and are in the midst of their Defcol set. Now I think its about high time it received its own thread.

Sourced from the Defcol Laserdiscs, this set will hopefully turn out to be something very special indeed. I’ve blatantly stolen ideas and such from the official 2004 OT DVDs and full motion menus abound. For A New Hope I’ve included three soundtracks including the Mono Hybrid Mix. The hybrid mono mix is the soundtrack of the Defcol used as a base with the best parts from the mono mix and the 2004 mix interspersed. Here’s the list of changes.

From the mono mix:

C3P0’s “We’ve Stopped” line restored from the sandcrawler.
Aunt Beru’s lines have been reinstated.
Stormtrooper’s “Allright, check that side of the street…” back in.
C3P0’s Tractor Beam Spiel restored
Stormtrooper’s “Close the blast doors” put back
Luke’s “Blast it Wedge where are you?” restored.

From the 2004 OT:
The stormtrooper’s “There’s no one here” line.
And one other which has slipped my mind for now.

From Deleted Magic:
The Cantina Cockneys (Cheers OCP!)

Here’s a couple of screenshots and a link to one of the chapter selection menus sans sound.

This set should be in circulation in roughly 2-3 weeks.

Wow, the menus look sweet. I especially like how the the light turns into the words.
I am assuming that the video will be the same as the original without any more compression right, because that one was only 4 gigbytes I think?
Author

Exactly right Bob. I have made it a point to avoid at any costs recompressing the original video source. This is of course to the detriment of the menus which are compressed to absolute buggery.

if this hasnt gone into 'production' yet, there is a grammatical error on the second to last line. It currently reads

we all hope will he makes a speedy...

think you were going for 'we all hope he will make a speedy...'

just wanted to point that out so a great project doesnt have an easily fixable error on it.

Cheers dude, this is in part why I went public with it at this stage of production, just so people like yourself (with great attention to detail) could spot the errors.

Cheers man

I should have it finished in 10 days or so, I'll then mail it off to Dark Jedi for distribution.

Hey, boba feta,

Your menus look pretty nice, and I'm sure if Laserman were to stumble across this thread he'd have a lump in his throat and a tear in his eye (hell, I almost do), but in the spirit of Laserman's rigorous technical approach to everything, I gotta point out one near-fatal technical flaw I see:

You are way outside the 'title-safe' area of the screen.

This means your menus (well, at least the two from which you've posted caps) will have a whole bunch of the text cut off on most TVs, wide or otherwise. To make sure your buttons (and any dedications) can be read by everyone, everywhere, you're going to have to pull the whole works in on all sides. I don't remember what percentages will do for action- and title-safe areas -- that would probably be Laserman's next post in the thread, if he were around to post it -- but I'd recommend Googling it up and making some changes accordingly. Laserman would be so proud...

Ya thanks for pointing that out Karyudo, that's actually a pre Encore PSD mockup and the menus have been modified since then and do fall within the standard guide for safe areas as allowable under Encore's strict rules. But nevertheless a great point to make for budding DVD authors.

there is some guy in your faces thread who is bitching about macroblocking.

i really dont care about the bitching in the other thread,he now knows NOT TO WASTE HIS TIME WITH THIS SET.

I haven't yet seen the Faces set, so I can't comment on that discussion, but I personally thought that DJ's Definitive Collection and SE sets were very well done. And after seeing what Boba Feta did with SE menus, I think that this could be one of the best o-ot trilogy sets yet. And it has the stereo track, mono mix and isolated score, on one disc. Whats not to like?

Yep, this set will be great. Thanks for all of your hard work.

OK I've gone back and touched up some audio issues with the ANH DVD that I wasn't happy with and barring a major mishap believe I have that finished. I've done the same with the ESB DVD and believe that to be very close to completion. I'll just post here a sample of one of the chapter selection menus.

ESB Menu sans audio. It's around 16 megs or so so if you wanna have a quick glance get in quick to yousendit. Like I said I've borrowed (read: thieved) heavily from the official DVDs so you'll know what to expect.

Cheers and thanks for everyone's kind words of support.

A suggestion, Boba Feta, would be if ithe menus don't already have it somewere, maybe you ought to have a quick explination of what the Hybrid mix is, since it is unique to this release. If it isn't too much trouble to change. It is just one of those "nice to have" things that I just thought of, but nothing major.

Hmm... It will be on the DVD cover. I wonder if it needs to be on the menu as well.

Looking good, one thing I thing I noticed was that the ANH menus had roman numerals for the chapters, but ESB had no labels. You might want to make them match, but it isn't a big deal.
