I’ve read that The Keep (1983) has had a legitimate HD broadcast in Europe. I know someone posted it on a website but it was in German and I couldn’t figure it out. It is probably my favorite movie. I just love the atmosphere and I think the confusing plot only adds to the charm. What I wouldn’t give to finally see this movie in HD. I’m tired of the lousy Laserdisc upscales.

I recorded the UK HDTV broadcast last year and that turned out to be yet another upscale of the omnipresent Laserdisc master. The confusing plot is very likely down to the troubled production history.

Has Flight of the Navigator been released in HD anywhere outside of Europe yet? I know they got a Blu-Ray release from Second Sight…also, how is that transfer? I’ve heard their (region-locked) release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie was superb.

Oh, so the Second Sight is region-free. I’m a dummy. Thanks!

I have heard that there is a three-hour version, but then someone told me that it isn’t a true three-hour version, it was just a bunch of different takes of the same scenes put together to help Mann figure out what takes he wanted to use. So I think there are no real extra scenes to help out of the confusing plot. Although obviously there is an alternate ending, and multiple ones at that.

I just happily discovered that Shadowlands is available in HD on iTunes, but I’m still looking for Educating Rita in HD, which is at the top of my wish list.

I edited the list as I’ve just discovered the “Before Trilogy” has been released by Criterion as a wonderful looking boxset in the U.S. Also, the outstanding news has dropped that “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” is coming to Blu-Ray later this year and it’ll be presented in both 16x9 and open matte. I honestly never thought I’d see the day!

Has anyone found “Undercover Brother” in HD/Blu-ray? I’ve looked high and low but cannot seem to find anything.

Anyone ever come across a Blu Ray (or even anamorphic DVD) of Six String Samurai?

That’s great news! The fact that the two discs have some of the same special features seems to indicate that the unrated version was at some stage meant to be a single disc edition - bodes well for a western release.

I’m glad a physical copy of the unrated movie exists in HD somewhere in the world though!

I bet with shipping it’s gonna be expensive. Regarding Flight of the Navigator, the DE Blu-ray disc looks better than the UK one. Better film grain retention.
Strange Days is available on Blu-ray disc from DE. Most current 2-Disc looks the best, which I own. Career Opportunities I can only seem to find a low filesize 720p of but looking for 1080p. FRIGHT NIGHT: Part II is again available from DE/Germany on Blu-ray disc but it’s a but pricey and I managed to snag one from a friend for a reasonable price.

Does anyone know if Disney’s “One of our Dinosaurs is missing” is avialable anywhere in HD? I see it appears to be on itunes in the USA, but don’t know if it’s SD or HD (or an upscale)

I can’t find much about it anywhere else. Amazon Instant Video in the U.K. has it in both SD and HD so I would guess they’re not selling an upscaled version. I’ve added it to the list anyway!

Thanks guys, as I don’t use them much, I wasn’t sure if the HD claims on the streaming sites were reliably genuine HD, expecially for films that are only on DVD.

Does anyone know to where to find a HQ copy of “From The Earth To The Moon”?

This.

I loved this mini-series almost as much as Band of Brothers.

I’ve been going to http://www.blu-ray.com and it tells me the ratio, resolution, audio type and channel numbers, etc. it’s really been helping me go through my collection to see if I have the best version available or not. Hope this helps.

That’s a good site. I use it for comparisons with HDTV broadcasts and to check which films are available on Blu-ray. If there hasn’t been a release and it’s going to air in HD, I make a note to record it.

The Village (2004)

As far as I know, there still isn’t a Blu-Ray release of this, which is unfortunate given it’s great cinematography by Roger Deakins. There is probably an HD version available on streaming services, but I’d like to have it on Blu-Ray.

Like I posted blu-Ray.com is a great resource. The Village does pop up when you search for it, indicating there is no bluray. There is a 1080p webrip floating around online. Easily findable. But that’s your best bet for now.

Don’t forget about “Final Approach” the fist film to use digital sound processing rather than analogue also it has never made it to DVD let alone Bluray it is only on VHS and laser disc.

“The revenge of billy the kid” a B-movie UK comedy is another not available in HD actually pretty sick but also very funny. It is a very stupid over the top but great b-movie. Only on DVD.
