I figured it was time to throw this topic out there, since it was #1 @ the box office this weekend. For those who have seen it, what do you think? Given my current line of employment, I've seen about 1/2 and have to say, it is an amazing looking movie, with well rounded character portrayals and a distinctive look. I would also say that it's definitely for older kids and teens rather than the usual Pixar set, due to mature themes and the comic-boook style violence. Anyone else?

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

While I didn't see it, I can tell you its not the movie that made itself #1 over the weekend.

It was the ROTS teaser trailer.

I seriously doubt it. The buzz on this movie has been building for quite some time, and as I recall, the trailer for Ep I didn't really do anything to prop up Meet Joe Black when it tanked spectacularly @ the box office.

Certainly didn't do anything for "wing commander".

I did see it and, while I hate to phrase it this way, it was incredible. It had the humor and polish that Pixar does so well. The villain was like a 50's James Bond baddie with an Island Hideout and technilogical gadgets and stupid patrolling guards and everything. I saw it Saturday and wanted to go again that evening.

But I didn't, because movies are pricey these days.

Also, the short animation at the beginning was quite something. While not as funny as their other short films, it was intellectually intriguing as an experiment in style and stuff. Pretty cool.

Anyway, I recommend this movie for everyone. Rated E.

I loved it. I thought the animation was spectacular as were the characters. Holly Hunter especially stood out as one of the best and likely to be most memorable animated movie characters along with Ellen DeGeneres in Finding Nemo.

As for this movie being "held up" by the ROTS trailer... nope, not a chance. Every Pixar film has stood its own ground and does better than almost anything else that any studio puts out there. They don't need ROTS trailers to do it for them. Pixar has a huge following. And, my theater didn't show the trailer. Yet nobody left all pissed off and I heard nary a complaint about it not being there. The BO would have been the same for Incredibles even without the trailer.

I didn't care too much for the opening animated short though. I was a bit let down, truth be told.

Regardless of my comments above, I also was let down by the short at the beginning. It WAS intriguing and interesting to see, but not at all what I had come to see. I'm glad I saw it and for some reason I keep thinking about it, how that idea must have evolved and come to fruition and been developed and all that, simply because it was so unlike the movie or any other animated short.

Something about the flamboyancy of the whole thing and slightly off balance nature of the characters. Basically intrigued how it was pulled off at all. I think it would get better every time. To a point.

Anyway, I'm learning a lesson right now about not to continue typing until you really figure out what you're going to say. maybe you'll never get there. ...

Despite the fact that I had a few reservations at the beginning, I ended up enjoying this movie more than most movies I have seen this year. And I agree, the opening short was sort of a let down.

I loved the opening short, but then again, I've always had a soft spot for off-kilter humour.

Hardly. I doubt most people even know that there was an Episode three trailer in the film. Pixar just has mad skills at this sort of thing, and people know it.

Ain't that the truth?

That being said, this film is the first one written and directed by a Pixar 'outsider' (Brad Bird), and his fingerprints are all over it. Just compare the look of these characters with any of his other work (Family Dog, Iron Giant) and you'll see what I mean.

Here's an example:
Iron Giant

I can't get a good link to an Incredibles image, but if you've seen the movie, my point is clear.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Man I just went to get a haircut.

Took too much off.

Now I'll just have to bounce like that sheep from the short.

Pixar really does some incredible work and has made some really impressive films, I hope they can keep it up.

I don't see why they cannot keep it up.

Hey, did anyone else notice how the ship that landed in The Incredibles with the big droid in it looked an awful lot like Darth Maul's ship from TPM?

Yeah, it totally did. It's hard to know what they do on purpose and what is an accident. They usually try to put lots of stuff in there (like in Monsters Inc, Boo gives Sully a series of toys in her room. Those were all renders from previous pixar works, including a stuffed clown fish for Nemo that wasn't out yet). They may be messing with us....maybe not.

Well, the thing I found interesting and this might help answer the question of whether it was a nod to SW or not, in the credits they thank LFL for use of their copyrighted droid design. So, maybe it is a wink-wink-nudge-nudge. Ya know?

I found it Cool. I liked Elastigirl! She's Hot!

before the film started all the kids in the theather were cheering most of the previews that were on mosty trailers for kid and family films. but when the ROTS trailer came on they all got very quiet, almost like they were scared. next to those other prevews Revenge did seem scary IMO.

but all in all it was cool.

Let's all remember that Pixar used to be Lucasfilm Computer Animation, before it was spunoff and purchased by Steve Jobs. There are still very strong ties to LFL.

Wasn't the woman who voiced Elastigirl the same one who voiced that Cowgirl in toy story 2?

No, Joan Cusak did Jessie. Holly Hunter (who I don't know) was Elastigirl. My girlfriend thought the same thing though. Guess the voice caster likes a certain tambre.

Holly Hunter has been acting for quite a while now.

Here's her IMDb profile

She's been in Thirteen, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Piano, and Raising Arizona, among many many others. Very talented actress who did a killer job in The Incredibles.
