The Idol in it’s original form is a pop star (Lily-Rose Depp) who goes off the rails and falls into sort of a cultish group environment.
I didn’t really enjoy where The Idol went with it’s overall story, but the first episode (prior to the cult stuff) had some great moments so I wrapped that up into a short-film format, using the first and third episode of the series to make a 26-minute self-contained story. Basically a slice-of-life story about a pop star struggling with fame.

Below is the high-level edit list:
- only use parts of episode 1 and 3, eps 2,4,5 are gone
+ move forward a couple morning scenes to before the photoshoot the show normally cold-opens with
- streamline the photoshoot slightly so there’s less cutting in and out of the scene
- remove most of the Vanity Fair journalist interruptions - seen but not in a way that interrupts the flow
- remove some of the club stuff, just keep it as a vibe not a plot point
- basically drop the last half of the first episode with all the post-club and s&m stuff
+ insert parts of the dinner scene from the third episode to round out the plot
