The IT Crowd - an appreciation thread : 2006-2013 comedy tv series

The comedic adventures of a rag-tag group of technical support workers at a large corporation in the UK.

The tv series is from Graham Linehan - the mind behind other comedies such as Father Ted, Big Train, Black Books & also wrote for Count Arthur Strong, Armstrong & Miller, The Fast Show, Alexi Sayle and Brass Eye.

The premise (from imdb)

Deep in the sub basement of the ambiguous company of Reynholm Industries, are not one, but two socially awkward IT guys. Moss, an electronics wizard and overly naive man and Roy, a lazy disgruntled co-worker have to provide support for Reynholm Industries with their inept boss, Jen, who doesn’t know the difference between hardware and software. The show revolves around Moss and Roy’s antics both at work and out socially, which always ends badly.

Ah… the days of Windows XP… when IT were often situated (and locked) in the basement, reviled and detested for their geekness, mystical ways and inability to connect on a ‘normal social level’ - so nothing has really changed…

Easily identifiable characters in a working environment all too real - Chris O’Dowd as Roy, Richard Ayoade as Moss and Katherine Parkinson as Jen really excelled here. Some weird and wonderful guest appearances too - and a top support cast with Matt Berry, Christopher Morris & Noel Fielding (an ill wind blows 😉)

Class sketches, memorable lines, top memes and gifs ahoy - and all remembered with much nostalgic fondness.

Lots of clips on youtube and other similar video sites, whole episodes on Channel 4 website - and the series / seasons boxset can be picked up for just a few quid on dvd or blu ray. Usually also on tv somewhere too… 👍

Brilliant show. Reminded me a bit too much on my real life though. I am something between Roy and Moss and when the show was on, I was working in the basement. And I had to do customer support one day a week

“Vista!”. “We’re going to die.”

“0118 999 881 999 119 7253”

“Have you tried turning it off and on again?”

Endlessly quotable, my favorite show of all time!
