It’s been on the back burner while I hone my skills on other projects, but it’s definitely still happening! My first fan edit, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Editor, is complete and awaiting review from the Academy folks over at fanedit.org. I’m going to release it via fanedit.info as soon as they give it the OK, alongside a proof-of-concept of The Matrix: Édition Noir et Néon, which I’m going to be working on alongside The Hobbit. I’m aiming to have them both out at some point next year, although depending on how things go with The Matrix it may come out sooner.

This looks like a fantastic idea. I like what you’re going for here. Any updates on the project as of now? I can’t wait to see the finished edit.

Been distracted with work and other commitments since the release of Pilgrim, I’m afraid. I picked up Blender to do some VFX for this edit, and ended up being asked to do some animation for a music video (among other distractions)…

However, I’ve done a bit more work on the pacing side of things, especially as concerns Rivendell and the transition from AUJ to DOS. They don’t seem quite so rushed now — ironically in the latter case, cutting a couple of shots achieved this.

I’ll be working on Mirkwood next, which I haven’t done much with yet.

Take your time. No rush. This is a solid project and I hope it turns out well.

Haha! thanks. It’s been a hell of a year for me (as for all of us), but the silver lining is that I now have some free time to work on this. I’ve finally been able to get my head around camera tracking for those epic aerial shots. The rigging and animation for the bird itself was giving me grief because the model I bought wasn’t in a native Blender format, but I think I’ve got the hang of it now. Hopefully I’ll be able to put this little sequence together in the next couple of weeks.
