Vader did love Luke, but not nearly to the extent Han loved Kylo really. Kylo definitely feels something for Han, but I still wouldn’t compare that to the conflict between Vader and Luke.

Han loving Ben doesn’t mean shit because he wasn’t the one who was tasked killing a loved one. And I’m not saying the situations are exact but they’re similar enough to warrant saying “By the grace of your training I will not be seduced”

Leia, Snoke, and Han feel that way. Although Han did say there’s too much Vader in him, he was the one that confronted him at the end because he saw an opportunity to get his son back.

Han had to be convinced by Leia to do that. Maybe she convinced him there was a chance Kylo could be saved but initially he thought there was nothing he could do.

Most of the people I’ve talked to get the idea that Kylo is just some kid trying to be something he isn’t.

And that’s part of what makes him so compelling. This man is literally willing himself to be evil and I think like Sean Gillis (who pretty much convinced himself he was a serial killer at heart) Kylo will convince himself he is of the Dark Side to the point in which that line of thought becomes permanently ingrained in his mind

He did kill Han and that gives me hope he won’t turn, but if Anakin could slaughter most of the Jedi and take part in blowing up a planet and STILL be redeemed, Kylo can too.

Well Vader had a couple of reasons to turn. One being that Palpatine lied to him about everything and his compassion for his son. Kylo doesn’t have any reasons thus far and we don’t know what he thinks of his mother. I can’t wait to find out though

Knight of Ren is okay too I guess. I really wonder what “Ren” is.

I wish I knew too. I think the KoR have been around for at least a few decades. Hopefully we’ll learn in Episode VIII

Yes, he is pretty much a crippled (more than physically) and I think it’s a really cool part about him. Anyone can be a badass in Star Wars, even if you’re horribly burned, a little green goblin guy, a big fuzzy dope, etc.

The way you phrased it could be considered offensive but I see where you’re coming from. Ironically from the potential he lost in his defeat on Mustafar he more than made up for in terms of refinement and maturity and that lead to him surpassing his younger self.

I don’t see the issue with the “Han Solo can’t save you” line. Rey was emotionally attached to him and Kylo figured this out when he probed her mind earlier. Also the wound beating seemed more practical (at least in terms of Star Wars) than not. I always saw it as him inflicting more pain on himself to help himself draw from the dark side more. Very cool moment, I kind of wish he did that throughout the fight.

It’s the way he said “Han Solo can’t save you” , and the look in his eyes that makes me think he’s a little mentally unstable. And I agree it is a great moment; it’s those small moments which adds to overall development of the character in a significant way. And he did do it again after his first pass with Finn.

You seem annoyed at this conversation, why?

There has been a lot of PT fanboys on here as of late. We haven’t seen many real discussions around here in a while.

Yeah I guess you’re right. I give up on this point, I’ll see the movie again sometime and see how it works out in my mind when I watch the scene after this conversation.

Yeah it makes him fun to watch, if a little bit goofy at times.

He did kill Han and that gives me hope he won’t turn, but if Anakin could slaughter most of the Jedi and take part in blowing up a planet and STILL be redeemed, Kylo can too.

Does Vader actually realize that Palpatine manipulated him after all those years though? I always thought that he was just building up guilt over the years and killing his son in that situation was the breaking point.

I’ll need to watch the scene again, but it hit me that he was unhinged.

What’s wrong with people who like the PT though? They’re fun movies, all Star Wars movies are pretty fun to watch. Minus Attack of the Clones of course, that movie is really terrible.

You seem confused by my annoyance, why?

Well it doesn’t seem like you’ve really engaged in conversation about TFA in the last few or more pages. It’s a little odd to be annoyed by a conversation you’re not even a part of, especially on a forum. If the way I’m replying to posts bothers you, speak up and I can rework my posts. There’s no need to poke fun at me for doing nothing though.

Yeah, that had nothing to do with it.

Oh my god, how is it not obvious? Here, maybe if I shout.

THE TWO OF YOU QUOTE-WALLING BACK AND FORTH IS REALLY ANNOYING.

And to save you a response, I’m aware I can ignore it. I certainly don’t bother to read it.

I gain new perspective on the film every time I see it. Hopefully watching it again either reaffirms your position on the matter or leads you to see my point of view 😃

I don’t know if goofy is the right word. Jar Jar is goofy.

He figures it out in one of the Vader comics.

That’s an understatement lol

Goofy is also Jar Jar.

And can we all try to relax a little more?

I don’t know, that scene with Kylo freaking the fuck out and hitting the monitors he was looking at was really goofy to me. It reminded me of Vader choking out all those Imps in ESB, except less intimidating. Then there was also the scene where Rey escaped and he had another tantrum.

The problem with PT fans coming here isn’t that they spark a discussion, the problem is that every time one of them joins, they post the exact same stuff like the ones before. So we have the same discussions again and again, with the exact same arguments and zero progress.

I think that’s because most of them ARE the same people as before.

Please tell me that’s a real toy I can purchase. That is an awesome fix for that insulting, Lucas-hates-the-fans character.

Immature? Yes but I don’t think goofy is a good descriptive term. It’s very indicative of where he is in his life. Still not fully trained and he still hasn’t grown up yet. Hopefully he evolves from that to just killing the people who fail him (or just killing people for pretty much no reason) so that we can say after the ST is done “Hey, you remember when Kylo Ren used to wail on inanimate objects? Now look at him”

Yeah, it’s a Disneyland/World exclusive. I’m sure you can find it on the internets.

I actually bought that at Disney a while back, but I lost it at some point when I moved.

They have had exclusive merchandise like that almost as long as Star Tours has been operating in the park.

They even had a Teek action figure, (who appeared in the flight safety video on the original ride) thus making it the only figure from the Ewok Tv movies to date.

I’ve finally gotten around to watching the TFA special features disc. Wow. The demonstration of practical prop, character (creature), and set building displayed in it of itself shows why this movie was better than the prequels by every metric. Both plain aesthetics and also just the amount of care and attention to detail that obviously carried over to other aspects of the movie. I say this in particular watching the making of the snow fight. A far cry for the spartan blue-screen ‘sets’ you see watching "making of"s of the prequels.

I’ve mentioned this before but it is the attention to detail for the aesthetic that I love the most. I had the opportunity at a New Years party to meet the guy who was hired to create all the starfields for the movie. He talked to me about how they wanted him to do it in a relatively short amount of time and he begged for more so he could have time to do it right. He painstakingly painted in every star trying to match the look of the starfields in SW. And that effort was not wasted because the first time I saw the movie I looked at the starfield in the opening crawl and my first thought was “it looks like a slightly more blue despecialized starfield.”

It’s that dedication and attention to detail that’s present throughout the movie that I love. I mean, this guy could have created a perfectly fine starfield in a couple minutes for each shot just using some tools in photoshop or after effects or something, but you can tell everyone involved in the movie has a deep love for Star Wars and wanted to do it right.

Sure, the story is a bit re-hashy and all, but I’d take that over a film made by people just phoning in their work any day.

Beautiful analysis DL. Have u checked out “Secrets of the Force Awakens” doc yet? It totally shows you even more the dedication and love put into the film.

Well technically, they have I, II, III, V, and VI 'til May 2020 while co-owning IV for perpetuity.

Yes I have. The day the bluray was released I did an OT marathon, then watched the movie and immediately after, I popped in the bonus disc and watched all the special features.
